The scene opens inside a brightly lit gym, a large ring the focus point of the surroundings taking up most of the space in the centre of the room. Dotted around the structure are numerous amounts of differing fitness equipment ranging from treadmills and weights to old school boxing bags and free standing humanoid martial arts practice statuettes. Amidst the relative silence the sounds of fists and feet striking against something can be heard and a lone, hooded, figure can be seen delivering a series of furious punches and kicks to the side and skull of one of the figurines, rarely taking a break from his relentless assault. After a while the figure of a blonde woman, decked from head to toe in a tracksuit, can be seen making her way towards the figure, a mobile phone raised to her ear.
Hannah : I know Trish, listen I can only tell you what I have been asked to tell you. Roberto doesn’t want to speak to anybody right now, that includes all of the Young Guns.
……………….
Hannah : Look, it isn’t anything personal he is trying to focus his mind towards Collision this week, I think he feels any distractions could be detrimental to the result this weekend.
……………….
Hannah : I can tell you now he won’t answer any calls, he suspended his service for the week. My advice? Just leave him to it, when he sets his mind on something he isn’t going to waver no matter what anybody says to him. I know he comes across as quite jovial and cocky a lot of the time but he is really dedicated to his career, losing to anybody no matter who they are hits him pretty hard, even if he doesn’t show it.
……………….
Hannah : I will pass on your regards, but I think he’d rather you concentrated on re-arranging the Rose Goddesses face than getting in touch with him. I will speak to you later Trish, take care.
Hannah hangs up the phone and begins walking towards the figure, her hands on her hips still clutching the device in her right hand. Cocking her head to one side she looks around the rim of the hood towards the face of the man beneath, addressing him slowly.
Hannah : It was the Young Guns again. You know, when you suspend you phone services and ignore your e-mails people begin to think something is wrong.
The figure continues to pound away at the figurine, almost oblivious to the young woman’s words.
Hannah : I’m concerned about you, I have never seen you like this. I know last week was disappointing but you can’t dwell on that result for too long. You were unlucky, these things happen.
Again the men ignores her protestations as Hannah becomes more visibly irritated, the previous caring demeanour washing away with each strike delivered to the rib cage of the figurine.
Hannah : Look, you can be angry all you want but at least talk to me, how can I help if you just keep everything to yourself? Besides, if you aren’t careful you’re going to pull something.
The figure suddenly delivers a flurry of punches before laying one final furious punch into the face of the statue. Breathing heavily they lower their head as Hannah continues to speak to them, her voice calmer.
Hannah : Come on, you need a break. Don’t push yourself too hard Roberto.
As Hannah finishes speaking the figure removes to hood to reveal Roberto Verona, a series of bruises apparent around his jawline following his match with Spike Kane at Trauma. Roberto turns away and heads towards the ring before lifting himself to the side of the mat, sitting outwards with his legs dangling off of the ring. Hannah sighs before making her way towards him, dragging a stool with her before placing it just below him as she sits down and looks up at him.
Hannah : Well, I guess this is an improvement. Are you going to speak to me now or are we going to be all broody like a bunch of hormonal teenagers who were cut from the team?
Rolling his eyes Roberto finally begins to speak, his usual tone of voice replaced with a more serious one.
Roberto Verona : Listen Hannah, I appreciate everybody’s concern, I really do, but I have to prepare for my match this week.
Hannah : I understand that, but you have to take a breather every now and then. You don’t want to burn yourself out do you?
Roberto Verona : Perhaps.
Hannah : Then relax. You can’t keep beating yourself up about Trauma, you can’t win them all.
Roberto remains emotionless, although his voice becomes slightly more aggressive.
Roberto Verona : It isn’t about winning every match, I aren’t stupid I know I won’t win every week but I’ll be damned if I do not learn anything from losing. I’d much rather analyse my performance and evolve than coast along making the same mistakes over and over again, otherwise I will never achieve my goals and I will end up as one of the almost rans. Forever remembered as being second best, something I cannot allow to happen.
Hannah : I get that, but if you focus too much on your failures how are you going to be able to prepare for you match this week against Falcon and Todd? You know you will need to step things up even more this week to make sure you and Simon Daye win, you’ll need to focus on two men to make sure you don’t end up as a loser without being pinned.
Roberto Verona : I appreciate you stating the obvious Hannah, I really do, but I am well aware of how to wrestle a tag match.
Hannah : You know you should be really glad you and I aren’t married as you’d be seriously losing your privileges for quite a while if you carry on lashing out at those who are just trying to help.
Roberto Verona : Again, I appreciate everybody’s concern but they needn’t worry. I just want to get my head back in the game to make sure last week was a one off, part of the minority and not the majority.
Hannah : I get that. Listen, I know you aren’t going to pay any attention to what I say when you’re like this, you’re far too stubborn sometimes. If you think being by yourself this week is for the best then that is your decision. Just try and slow down a bit, you don’t want to burn out by Sunday, if you do no matter how much hard work you put into this match you will be in no fit state to fight it.
Hannah stands up and begins to walk away before turning for a moment.
Hannah : Take care of yourself Roberto.
With that she turns away once again and walks out of the gym, leaving Roberto to dwell on his own in silence.
Roberto Verona : Don’t worry about me Hannah, I will be ready for Collision. I guarantee it.
Roberto Verona : So, once again Roberto Verona and Todd Williams will clash in the middle of an nCw ring, only this time with the sideshow of Falcon and Simon Daye. You know if I didn’t know any better I’d say that Todd has some sort of masochistic streak in him as he seems really keen on getting his ass handed to him once again only a fortnight after the last time I left him black and blue. Either that or the bookers have a really sadistic side. Regardless, once again it would appear that I need to shut Todd Williams up. The self-proclaimed solution to the revolution right? What a shame the solution dramatically failed in spectacular fashion at Sovereign, as I said it would. You know I haven’t had the time, nor the car, to listen to what Todd has to say about this match but let me respond to his no doubt humorous and predictable twaddle before I have to listen to it.
1) Gay Jokes. Let’s just get this one out of the way, if you have some sort of burning desire to see me naked Todd then let me disappoint you now sailor. You and me? Never going to happen. I aren’t a salami sort of guy. So before you whip out the boring, tired old homophobic “jokes” let me save you the bother. If I was batting for the other side, trust me you’d not even be on the list.
2) “Don’t you make fun of MY WIFE!!!!!!!”. I will say whatever I like about your wife, she likes to run her mouth and scamper after Zelda causing mayhem and havoc for the rest of the roster so she is more than open to a giant wad of criticism. But hey, she’s Steve Awesome’s problem nowadays right?
3) Some tiring attempt at being black. Listen, Todd, you can’t rap. I hate to break it to you but a Todd William’s rap is about as intimidating as a baby rabbit. You have zero rhythm and about as much charisma a brick wall. You’re about as black as Vanilla Ice.
4) An attempt to be intimidating, completely ruined by movie references. I seriously do not care if you are top of the ranking list at Black Ops or some other mind numbingly dull shoot em’ up. I also don’t care if you have some sort of Star Wars fetish or some other geekfest. As for your rants about how you’ll shut me up blah blah blah, well you lost, no matter how much “fury” you wanted to bring to the ring at Sovereign you got beat. You know what, bring it again, you’ll still lose. And if you want to fight me at A Night To Remember? You’ll lose again.
5) You’ll go on about how I talk too much. Quite simple Todd, if you don’t like what I have to say, don’t listen. Nobody is making you, but we both know you can’t help but tune in to find out what I do have to say, because it gives you this new found hate and rage that fuels your rare sex sessions with Crystal. You can thank me later.
6) I'M TODD WILLIAMS x4. Minimum.
I think that just about covers everything I suspect you’ll have to say. Hey, if you have some original material please feel free to share it with me, maybe now I have highlighted what I expect you to say you’ll be all “surprising” and prove me wrong. Either way Todd, we could go over old ground once again but suffice to say I still find you incredibly irritating, I am still better than you and I am still going to come and take that belt off you when I see fit. If you want to get your streak back on track you really ought to stop begging to fight me, you struck it lucky once big guy, it will not be happening ever again. Deal with it.
Oh, and when are you coming for the Young Guns by the way Todd? We are still waiting for that beating you offered us. As for your challenge, I will have your answer for you very, very soon.
The scene opens up in Roberto’s home office, the aforementioned Italian leaning back in his chair with his feet resting on top of the desk, the keyboard over his lap. To his right is a small table, the mouse and mouse mat nestled on top. Roberto begins clicking sporadically whilst bashing at a few keys from time to time as the camera swings behind him to reveal that he is playing Football Manager, a football/soccer management simulator.
Roberto Verona : Oh, seriously? Come on! That was never a red card! Jesus. Is this referee blind?
Roberto furiously taps away at a few keys, changing his formation before restarting following the dismissal.
Roberto Verona : Right, maybe now the referee will stop thinking about the large bag of swag in his locker room courtesy of Juventus and start calling things fairly…
Before he can finish his sentence, a pop up appear in the bottom right hand corner of the monitor saying “New E-Mail Message From Cesare Verona”. Pausing for a moment, Roberto begins to look concerned.
Roberto Verona : Cesare? How did he get my private e-mail address…..
Roberto is lost in thought for a moment, looking for the answer deep in his mind before finding the answer, an agitated tone entering his voice.
Roberto Verona : Jesus Hannah, and you say I’m stubborn? Ugh….
Sighing heavily Roberto opens the e-mail, which soon become visible across the screen.
Dear Roberto,
I know you and I haven’t spoken since your father died, and I understand why you don’t want any of us chasing you down but your friend Hannah begged me to speak to you. You’re lucky to have somebody care about you so much Roberto, you shouldn’t forget about that.
Listen, she wanted me to get in touch about helping you train, she said you didn’t have anybody else to really practice with and she found my old matches on YouTube. We both know I know more about the business than the majority of the other guys on the roster, and that include your stable comrades in the Young Guns. If you can at least look past everything in the past I can help you learn to improve your skills in the ring and teach you how to focus properly. I know you don’t like me, but think of this as a business arrangement, this has nothing to do with family.
I understand if I don’t hear back from you, but when a pretty young lady asks me to do something, I can’t say no.
Ciao, Roberto.
Cesare
Roberto leans forward, placing the keyboard on the desk whilst raising his hand to his lips, beginning to descend into his own thoughts. After a few moments he clicks “Reply” and begins to type
Dear Cesare….
Roberto Verona : What do Todd Williams and Falcon have in common? Neither of them earned their most recent championship runs. The difference? Todd has yet to drop his at the first real hurdle. Seriously, they call you the two time world champion Falcon but you were gifted your second run by a tiny girl and Todd had his own belt given to him gift wrapped by your truly. You really are a team to behold. Having said that Falcon, amidst the jokes and cheap shots you did have a pretty impressive run the first time you captured the belt so rest assured I don’t think you’re a useless chump like your partner, I know you mean business when you walk down to that ring and I am more than aware that if you want to you can more than hold your own against the best this business has to offer.
I could waste both your time and my own by listing off humorous little facts about you but I will be quite blunt with you Falcon, I feel sorry for you. I mean you were stitched up and absorbed in the little plot to get Rob Diamond his title reign by Zelda Knite and I can’t help but feel for you. However, let’s not make the mistake of thinking that I have any worries about our match up this weekend. I know you have more talent in your little finger than your tag partner but I see you as a brilliant test of where I stand right now and what I am ready for and I don’t plan on making a fool of myself. I narrowly lost to Spike Kane last week and I admit, he got the better of me, I should have finished him off and made sure he couldn’t gain the strength to make such a late comeback. This week I get to face the former World Champion, a week after just falling short of putting a legend away and I don’t plan on falling short a second time.
I admit Falcon, I don’t really have any axe to grind with you, far from it your one of the guys on this roster who earned his way to the top but it doesn’t mean I plan on going easy on you, nor will I be focused on just putting Williams back in his place again. Fact is we both have bigger fish to fry and after this week we can get back to gracing the ring with better men than Todd Williams. That being said, you had to open the show last week? Ouch. Fall from grace or what?
As for Simon Daye, I really don’t know what to say about you except; congratulations. This week you get to have a serious boost for your career when you pair up with me to fight Falcon and TODD WILLIAMS. Just don’t get pinned or submit and you will enjoy another win on your record, you can thank me later.
Hannah : I know Trish, listen I can only tell you what I have been asked to tell you. Roberto doesn’t want to speak to anybody right now, that includes all of the Young Guns.
