"Does it stop? Can I just stop? I feel weak, tired, done. Why should I continue?"
A short pause echoed on the darkened screen.
"Because its not in me to stop."
Somewhere in NorthWestern Maryland.
Freakke sat on the stairs of an old circus wagon. Around him lay a sort of boneyard for old disused circus things. Tiger cages with no bars, broken rides, and all sorts once pristine amusement attractions. The old Canrie's called it the retirement home. He called it the Boneyard.
"Ladies, gentlemen, cretins one and all. I have an apology to make. I actually have a lot to apologize for but your only getting one apology. In the past two months I have done a series of unacceptable things and made an utter fool of myself in a bad way. Even worse, I failed to perform to the top of my ability. Even more repugnant than that, I have let myself be assaulted numerous times by Magically Delicious. I'm sorry."
Freakke held his arms up a little as he shrugged.
"Now that we're done with that, I promise you this, I will never do that again, I will return my focus on the matches at hand, and I will defend the title I currently have attached to me."
He looked out into the woods surrounding the rings of structures and refuse. He clasped his hands in front of his face and rested his arms on his knees.
"This week I have a challenge on my hands. Venom, newly appointed Honor Champion, is my opponent. I've been in the ring with Venom before, he may have been given this belt, but I have little doubt that he will earn the right to bear it. That being said, Venom, I intend you no mercy. I plan on doing what I do best as I know you will do what you do best. In the end it'll be one hell of a show. All titles, angles, and feuds aside, thats the point right?"
Freakke stood up and looked to the camera again. He turned and climbed the back of the wagon, making his way over to the front end of the vehicle. He reached a thick rope that had been drawn taught between the wagon to a Freak's cage. The camera followed silently. He stepped out and began to walk along the rope slowly.
"V, you and I share a few similarities in the way we do things. We both run around and try and knock people around quick. We take risks to get the job done. Sometimes those risks pay off sometimes they don't. Ya see, this'll be interesting. We were in a match once upon a time but that match involved several other men and a few tables and ladders we don't have now..."
Freakke looked like he was losing balance and leapt from the rope and managed to catch it with his hands. He hung there for a second and started to laugh.
"This week it's just you, me, four corners, and three sets of rope."
He dropped down and began to roll his shoulders after landing. Freakke rubbed his right shoulder and smirked.
"That said, neither of us came out on top then. Saturday, one of us has to win. Now, I could say that I know I'm gonna win for some obscurely relevant reason. Oh, I'm X-Division Champion blah, blah, blah. Oh I did this blah, blah, blah. You'll never beat me, yada, yada, yada. You know, I don't think it matters. Why? Because neither of us know whose gonna win Saturday. We only know that we're stepping into the ring and we're going to do everything in our power to make the win. Pin or Submission."
The painted man stood up and looked to the camera.
"I understand that the title you have has extra rules about it. We might not have to adhere to those rules Saturday but if you're game I'll up the ante and play by them if you will. I enjoy a challenge, I really do. What have you to lose? Neither of our titles are on the line and there really isn't a reason not to. Besides, you'll need the practice right?"
He walked to the center opening and he sat down. Again rubbing his shoulders.
"Now, I have one last thing to say before I say goodbye. I already did my apologies but I have something to do before I let it all go."
He pulled up a wildly painted box and smiled. He knocked on the top once and looked back to the camera.
"Something I did awhile ago needs undone. You've all seen magicians do this trick right?"
He opened the box and showed the camera the contents. Freakke's X-Division replacement belt sat inside. The barbed wire and shattered plates sat in a heep. He closed the box and spun it round. He knocked his knuckle on the top again and smiled.
"And now we wait."
Instead of opening it, he put a padlock on the box and set it aside.
"And now my dear cretins, I bid you ad...Oh no..."
Freakke placed his face in his palms and he was immediately surrounded by the forms of Hexx and Mr. Happy.
"I....didn't....know.....you....could....run....that....far....."
"I told you to rent the scooter."
Hexx almost collapsed but Freakke sat there embarrassed. Hexx took a moment and regained his composure...what little he had.
"Now...we have evil deeds to do...get in the van..."
"Listen...guys, it's been...ermm...fun, but I'm done. I'm all fun-ned out."
"Aaaawwwwww...."
"How dare you disobey zombie! I made you!"
Freakke looked up at him and sighed.
"Listen I really didn't want to have to do this but..."
He reached back and pulled out a bar of soap from his back pocket. As he placed it between him and Magically Delicious, the bumbling duo stumbled backwards.
"Oh dear God not Soap!!!"
"Run Happy! It's lavender!!!"
The two fled and Freakke sighed with relief.
"Good night cretins one and all."
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The camera crew packed up and left long before Freakke himself contemplated it. He sat there watching a fire he built when he heard a voice. He looked around thinking at first it was only the wind. Then he heard it again. He got up and followed it to an old House of Mirrors. Inside he saw shattered glass and mirrors lining every corridor.
"Hello? Whose there?"
As Freakke walks deeper into the house of mirrors, he turns and sees a young woman standing in one of the mirrors. Her long black hair is hanging over her eyes, and is dressed in a black and white Alice in Wonderland like dress. Her hands are behind her back, as she smiles to herself. Freakke jumped back startled by the fact there really was a person there.
"Holy **** you scared me!!!"
"Hello Charlie."
"Who are you and what are you doing here? Nevermind trespassing, you do know this place is dangerous right?"
"Who am I isn't important. Whats important is do you know who you are?"
She doesn't look up.
"Yeah, I'm Charlie Smiles and you do know this is an unsanitary circus attraction that hasn't been fixed or cleaned in years? We're gonna get tetanus just sitting in here."
She continues unabated her lips curled into a soft doll like smile.
"Ever the clown, Charlie. Like you were back then. But things aren't like that anymore. I know what it's like Charlie, we all know what it's like. We all know what it's like to be lost, to be cast aside, to be alone, lost, drifting. Like you are. We've been watching you, Charlie."
"Creepy..."
"Charlie, you miss it don't you? The family, the comradery? Back then it was like a family. Now, you don't have that family. I'm here to change that, Charlie. I'm here to make things like they were. I'm here to take you back, Charlie. I'm here to give you a new family."
"Family? What are you talking about?"
She extends her hand, and it comes out through the glass. The sound of old circus music plays over an old speaker system, as the scene behind her changes into a circus. Freakke looks around and finds the speaker.
"It's time to come home Charlie."
"OK, then..."
Freakke sighed and placed his hand on her shoulder.
"Lead away oh creepy one."
A short pause echoed on the darkened screen.
