What you want.
This is the easy question, Simon. What you want from me. You want me to make you into somebody special, like I have some kind of magic touch. But it doesn't really work that way, Simon.
You can't just want success..
You can't just want the fame and respect that goes with it.
In fact, the term want can't even be inside your mind.
This business.. it'll take from you, it'll take everything inside your soul that isn't nailed down and not even apologize afterwards. And if all you have is a want...
Sooner or later, it will break you..
It's not even about a need either. You can't need fame or success, because they're hollow at best. You won't spend every second around addoring fans, you won't wow every critic, nor will you silence all the haters with every match. Needing something you can only attain through hard work, leads to desperation. Desperation leads to mistakes, and mistakes lead to heartache.
People ask why I meddle in people's lives..
It's because I know that..
I understand that..
And that is what you should want from me. You should want me to teach you how to survive, instead of thrive. When I'm finished with you..
You may not even be the man you think you want to be..
But you'll be the man, you're supposed to be.
Then, winning any belt.. any accolade..
Will be child's play.
That's if you have the heart to follow it through.
That part, is up to you.
(Falcon wandered around the room. He'd put off remaking his "trophy room" in the new house, but now it seemed like he was going to stay in Chicago for a while, so he just went and got it done. He was staring at the tag team title replicas on the wall.)
Falcon: ...Jack.. we were a mess.. weren't we...?
(People didn't know it, but Falcon didn't have to teach Jack Ryan anything. He never considered himself a mentor.. Jack was just his friend.)
Falcon: I don't even know if I can do this...
(Falcon took a step back and sat down on top of a storage bin, now empty of all it's contents. He didn't know what he was doing, except musing.)
Falcon: What am I supposed to do? How can I lead by example when I feel like I've failed as a person...
(He sighed heavily, then the phone in his pocket buzzed.)
What I want from you.
What I want from you is very simple..
I want to know who Simon Daye is.. I want to know where your passion stands, where your heart is, and how far you can be pushed before you can't take any more and ask for mercy or release.. Then, when you're at your lowest point.. when you think you can't get up again..
I will show you where you can find the strength to stand.
It's that simple, Simon. I'm not going to make you into some sort of Falcon clone like everybody thinks I'm always trying to do. All I'm trying to do is show you the man you can be.. the man you're doing to need to be..
To get to where you want to be.
How far do you think you can go Simon? How far can you bend before you break? How many times can you grit your teeth through the pain and stand up when everyone thinks you won't rise to your feet?
That's what I want to know.
This isn't a pride waving contest. This isn't about me trying to beat you to prove a point. I have to try and break you...
Before I can build you up again..
You have a double edged sword inside you Simon. On one hand, you've been around the ring for a lot longer than most people realize. You've seen men come and go, seen hurt.. anger.. sadness.. pain..
So you think you know..
But now, you're actually on the inside, learning as you go. And I'm a hundred percent certain that you're realizing it's a whole different animal, now. And on that other hand, you're finding that it really is very different than it looks from the outside.
That's where I come in.
So, don't take it personally. I'm not out to harm or embarass you. Consider this as sort of a test, if you will. Not of your standing, because I agreed to train you and train you I will.
But of your heart.. your drive.. and your merit.
Stay or go.. the choice is yours.
But I want you to fight me like it is the last thing you'll ever be able to do. Like it's your last chance, because if you can get into that kind of mindset at will.
Anything is possible.
(Falcon checked his phone. The message was clearly displayed.)
"I have faith in you...."
(There was no name, just a phone number.)
Falcon: Well.. now isn't this mysterious...
