“Men’s basketball overcame two major challenges since the last time we talked… beating both Greece and Spain. With vengeance they took after Greece, such fierceness shows that the only thing that is in their eye is world domination in the sport. I’ve started on a rocky road to redemption in my own course of life, learning from my losses, growing from my wins, but mainly I’m discovering that in my late twenties what kind of man that awaits for me to become within the next part of my lifespan. Maybe the hardships in my life weren’t all for nothing, the low points, the rock bottom times, everything happens for a decent reason, I mean I can’t complain where I’m at right now can I? I’m working my way to becoming a better family man, I have a great job doing something I love, and most of all, I’m moving up in my own world. I’m healthy, everything is good…”
The scene opens with Xavier laying down, across the hard wood that made up the roof of his home, the moonlight illuminates the scene. His eyes are closed, but his mouth lays open, as he speaks to the camera that is struck on him.
“Cari is working from home again, I don’t want her doing much around the house. I have Chris over most of the time taking care of anything that needs to be done. L.J. and Belle are looking forward to being big brother and sister. Not to sound sexist but I hope it’s a boy, it’ll be better for Landon in the future, I mean if it’s a girl of course I’m gonna love it the same, but I guess as a dad, its always fun to throw a ball with your son. Speaking of Landon, I had to take him to the doctor the other day, he’s been having chronic nose bleeds, while I was gone Cari told me that he was having a nose bleed almost every night, though he’s been fine since I’ve been home. It has been a weird time around the Cross household, but don’t worry Adam, I’m focused.”
Sitting up, pulling his knees into his chest his eyes open and turn to the camera. He smiles, nodding his head a bit as he looks away.
“Adam… you’ve had tons more history and experience in nCw, you got your precious Xtreme Title on the line. You weren’t much of the fight I was hoping for, though that match was quite awkward, either way I got the pin. I got this match at battlegrounds. I got my shot at gold. I got my shot to getting a smoother road to my redemption. Last week, I was watching collision and I saw A.J. Phoenix beat Xavier Williams, the man I had to fight in my first shot for a shot at a title take down that champion. Like Billy Ray Cyrus I sat and thought to myself “Coulda Been Me?”. Which leads me to another point, a man I had to compete against in a battle royal for a shot at the world title. Steve Awesome takes on Trent Helms and again I sit back and I wonder “Coulda been me?”
Standing up and walking to the edge of his roof, we hear Xavier draw a deep breath. Nodding his head up and down, shrugging his shoulders.
“I’m not going to linger on that thought any longer Adam Knite, the only thought I’m going to linger on. I see myself at a huge disadvantage against you on so many levels, you’re more experienced than me. You’ve survived challengers before. Who I am compared to the people you’ve beaten in your past…. But I’d like to remind you, that out of three other men, I, the fourth man beat you. I pinned you, I got my shot. I want to remind you of that constantly, until you think in your back of your head, from the time that bell rings, to the time they declare me that new champ, that I beat you before, that this is all just repeating, this is groundhog day, and you are Tom Hanks.”
-the scene fades as Xavier climbs off the top of the roof-
Our camera opens again to Xavier sitting on the couch watching television, now laying on him is his wife who is three week pregnant. Her eyes are closed and her hands are laid on her stomach which hasn’t shown much signs of pregnancy. His hands stroke through her smooth brown hair as he watches ESPN news.
“I got to return to roots I haven’t seen. I got to get back into that hardcore mindset, I have to break you open, I’ll have to get busted open, I’ll have to push myself to the point of a madman, I’ll have to become an animal. Because I know now that the ball is in your court, I’m going to have to pull some crazy **** out. I can’t brag about winning a 4-1 match other than the fact that I was better than my ‘partners’ which, by looking back, isn’t much to brag at. Adam Knite, what do I have to become to beat you? Or do I just have to stay myself, maybe you should have had three partners to take me down… Maybe? Life’s full of them huh?”
Xavier jumps a bit as Cari suddenly wakes up, she looks green as she rushes off in the direction of the bathroom. Xavier gets up and follows her to the bathroom. He then hears the door lock, followed by sounds that one can only assume is Cari getting sick. Xavier leans his head on the wall waiting for the door to unlock. Something catches Xavier’s eye as he walks into Landon’s room, seeing his son sleeping peacefully.
“So why haven’t you had any nose bleeds since I’ve been home… Doctor said you were fine…”
The door opens, and Cari is gone in a flash. Xavier walks into the bathroom, his brow raised a bit. The bathroom seems to be clean, the toilet bowl flushed. But something catches Xavier’s attention, looking at the sink he sees spots of blood in the form of finger prints, he looks over at trashcan, seeing a bit of blood soaked over toilet paper…
“What the…”
