~*~*~They say that you cannot always get what you want. The truth of the matter is that most people can’t. There is an asterix though when your name is Lance Ryan. When you are recognized by your peers and a good percentage of fans as a legend regardless of what you do, and what you have done, you can basically ensure that what you say goes. Ninety nine percent of the time anyways…this past week Lance got what he wanted, but not exactly what he wanted. It came at a price. Lance did indeed get the tag team title match that he had been lobbying for, but the partner was likely not quite what he bargained for. Lance Ryan will team up at Road to the Gold for his tag team title shot with a man that he has not seen eye to eye with, a man that he has been at odds with, and a man that he clearly has disdain for, Adam Knite. One has to wonder what is going through the minds of these two men heading into Road to the Gold. These are two men that have their eyes set upon tag team gold, but two men that had no partners set in stone heading for that goal. Now, they have their goal attained, but can they co-exist to see that goal come to fruition?~*~*~
~*~*~Lance is sitting alone in his locker room after an nCw house show. He is sitting in a pair of dress slacks and is slowly putting on a pair of dress shoes when he looks up as we hear a door shut.~*~*~[/i]
Lance Ryan: To what do I owe the honor?
~*~*~Lance’s brother walks into the camera view. He looks down at Lance and shakes his head.~*~*~[/i]
Matthew Ryan: You sure are in a bad spot aren’t you? For weeks you told the world that the tag team titles were yours. Nothing more than a three count away. Now, look at the situation that you have placed yourself in. Because you were so gung ho, and you had no concrete plans, you are stuck with a man that has recently become a nemesis as your partner. You have to win the tag team titles with Adam Knite or you will fail your mission and look like a fool.
Lance Ryan: Hello to you to. You know, you would think that after being my manager for eleven years and more-so, my brother for your entire life, you would give me a little more credit. Sure, things did not turn out exactly as I wanted them. I don’t have a partner that I would have chosen by hand, I am teaming with a man that has been a thorn in my side now for weeks, but look at the reality. Adam Knite is a damn good wrestler in his own right. This is a man that is also dead set on winning some more gold, a man that is lethal, and a man that for some strange reason I trust.
Matthew Ryan: How can you possibly trust a man that you laid out with a steel chair, much less a man that has cost you a match or two in the last month?
Lance Ryan: Like I said, common goals can unite even the fiercest of enemies. That is something that you need to remember as life goes on for you. There is no argument that is worth being hung up on when a common goal can be found. Hatred is such a commonly used word in our world, and let’s be honest, hatred is foolish. Why look at someone as an enemy when they can be used to accomplish a goal? Adam Knite is talented, Adam Knite is competitive, and Adam Knite is driven. After all, look at what he did to Trent Helms. When he has a goal in mind, he doesn’t care what gets in his way, he accomplishes it. I respect that.
Matthew Ryan: Do you trust him though? Have you spoken directly to Adam?
Lance Ryan: I haven’t spoken directly to him, no. But I know that I can at least trust him to do his part in helping us win the tag gold from the SkySlayers.
Matthew Ryan: Alright.
Lance Ryan: Alright? Wow. In all these years you seldom agree with me. Are you getting passive as you grow older?
Matthew Ryan: No, I am just realizing that as you get older you get more and more set in your ways. Plus, I have to admit that seldom in your career have you made a move that didn’t pay off. Thus, who am I to stand here and tell you that it’s a stupid move? I suppose we will find out on Sunday. Regardless, the limo is waiting, almost ready?
Lance Ryan: Give me a few minutes of peace and I will be right out. Give me about five minutes.
Matthew Ryan: Done.
~*~*~Matthew walks off camera and we again hear the door close behind him. Lance reaches into his locker and pulls out a dress shirt. He starts to button it up and continues to speak.~*~*~[/i]
Lance Ryan: Oh my dear brother. I must admit that I am a little more concerned that I put on. Tag team wrestling is an art form, this I know. When I was wrestling for the world title and with the world title, I always knew that I had to rely on one man and one man alone, that being myself. Now that I am in this tag team division however, I had realized that I would have to rely on someone else. Someone would be entrusted by me to go out every night and do their damndest to win, and defend the tag team championship. But Adam? This is not what I bargained for. I realize that Spike Kane has it in for me, hell, he always has. After all, I did take his title away from him. I have to admit that I kind of helped him along that downward spiral that he went on. I am sure though that he is cozy sitting in the general manager’s chair, having the skills to ruin my plans and my career.
~*~*~Lance gets up and starts pacing as he grabs his suit jacket and starts to put it on.~*~*~[/i]
Lance Ryan: It feels like the whole world has turned on me in such a short period of time. Spike Kane gives me my match, then teams me with a man that would probably love nothing more than to put me on the shelf beside Trent. Adam Knite, as I said is a great wrestler, but trust, trust is something that needs to be earned, and let’s be honest here, he hasn’t gone far in that realm with me of late.
Adam, let me get serious with you here. I want those tag team titles, and while you are not the tag team partner that I would have envisioned, I will deal with what cards are dealt to me by this corrupt company. I expect to leave Road to the Gold with the tag team titles, I expect to have a lengthy reign, and now it look s like you are going to have to be my partner. Consider this being me putting our differences aside, if you are willing to do the same. Wrestling is about the gold, and damn it, I need to have that gold. SO do your part, I will do mine, and we will see what we can do with this title shot.
~*~*~Lance grabs his duffel bag and swings it over his shoulder. Takes a last look around the room and then heads out, the camera following him into the hallway. Lance keeps talking as he walks.~*~*~[/i]
Lance Ryan: Falcon and Talon, you may not fully comprehend the powder keg that you are about to walk into. I have been in situations before where I took on rag tag teams that were thrown together. I looked ahead of the challenge. It doesn’t matter how great the two men are, you have to expect that two men who seem to hate one another cannot co-exist as a tag team. To that I simply recommend that you do not look at THIS match in THAT way. There is a lot more at stake here than pride, a lot more at stake than a match, a lot more at stake than two men that want to show you up. Regardless of the lead ins, regardless of the history, I have to expect that Adam Knite will be a consummate professional. He is indeed from the old school, a school that believes that wrestling is about the titles, wrestling is about the fame and wrestling is about doing what you do best.
If that is the case my friends, what you have are two men with a whole hell of a lot of pent up anger, two men that would like nothing more than to tear the heads off of one another, and two men that clearly are not on the same page. The catch? Those two men have one thing, and only ONE thing in common. They are intent on coming after the two of you, and more importantly they are intent on getting to the end of the Road to the Gold with the gold that you hold near and dear. Face it Sky Slayers, at the end of the day you two are great wrestlers, and you have a lot going for you, but you are about to take on a monster that cannot be controlled by the monster itself, I am taking your titles, with or without Knite. When the curtain falls, I will have it all, including your tag team titles, and you two….well, you will have each other. That’s not nothing, but it’s close.
~*~*~Lance walks into the parking lot and Matthew opens the limousine door for him. He stops looks Matthew in the eye and smiles.~*~*~[/i]
Lance Ryan: Let’s celebrate. Drinks are on me.
