~{/SETTING\}~
As daylight begins to break, Jimmy Zane is pulling into his hometown of New Orleans. He cruises through the streets towards his mothers home. An old plantation home, built in the early 1800's. The property is well maintained, and the house appears quite normal from the outside. It sits on 300 acres just outside the New Orleans city limits. Purchased for his mother, by his father, and one day it will be his as well. Jimmy pulls up the long drive to the house, as workers in the yard wave to him.
He smiles as he gets closer to the house and sees his mother standing on the front porch waiting for him. As he pulls up she smiles at him and slowly walks down the steps. He pulls up and parks, getting out of his car. He walks up to his mother and gives her a hug.
~{/JIMMY ZANE\}~
Hey, Mom, how did you know I was coming?
~{/QUEEN MARIE VODOU\}~
Your mother sees everything when it comes to her baby. And I know exactly what you are coming for. I have a question tho, with the cost of gasoline being so high, and more economical cars on the market, why in the world are you still driving this old car.
~{/JIMMY ZANE\}~
That is not just an old car, Mom. That is a mint condition, 1972 Buick Skylark GS. There were only twelve thousand of them made, and only two thousand of those came fully loaded like this one. It's not just a car, its a classic!
~{/QUEEN MARIE VODOU\}~
Whatever it is, get it off my lawn, boy!
~{/SETTING\}~
Jimmy chuckles then turns and tosses the keys to one of the many staff members that work for his mother. He pulls it around to the garage as Jimmy walks inside with his mother. They go into a parlor room and sit down to catch up.
~{/QUEEN MARIE VODOU\}~
So, the death of your father is still weighing on your mind, my son?
~{/JIMMY ZANE\}~
Among other things. I am working my butt off for nCw, Mom, and I feel like Dad's shadow is always hanging over me. His status as one of the greatest of all time, leaves this heavy blanket over my head, and covers management's eyes. All they see when they look at me, is my father. No matter how hard I try, they only see him.
~{/QUEEN MARIE VODOU\}~
You know, your father knew this was going to happen. He told me when you were very young that he felt that the more success he had, the worse it was going to be on you when you took his place.
~{/JIMMY ZANE\}~
But that's just it, mom. I am not trying to take his place! I am trying to be my own person. That's why I changed my last name. That's why I have a totally different wrestling style. Because I don't want to be Dad! I want to be JIMMY ZANE!
~{/QUEEN MARIE VODOU\}~
My Son, to know where you are going, you must first know where you have been. You must look at the errors your father made. You must learn from them. Get better from them. Rise above them. You know, I heard a couple of those guys you are competing against this week talking about how they didn't know who your father was, and how they don't care anyway and all. I guess it's their loss not knowing one of the greatest performers of all time, don't you think?
~{/JIMMY ZANE\}~
Mom, I totally agree with you, however the problem is that my co-workers are young like me, and maybe haven't always had an interest in wrestling, or payed attention to those men who blazed the trail that we follow today. People like Dad, and Davey Boone, and yes, even Gibby.
~{/QUEEN MARIE VODOU\}~
Are you talking about that disgusting man I always see you on television with? The one that is always half naked and oiled up?
~{/JIMMY ZANE\}~
Yeah, that's Gibby, alright. I have learned a lot from him. He knew Dad very well, and he has taught me so much about team work, and trusting in your friends and the people around you. That's why Chris Phere and I are so good as a pair. We both have been down the same exact roads, and found the same thing at the end of those roads. Lonliness and solitude.
~{/SETTING\}~
Jimmy's mother gets up and walks over to an old roll top desk in the corner. She slowly lifts the lid and pulls out an envelope. She walks back to her chair and sits down, holding it in her lap. She looks down at it a couple of times before looking back at Jimmy.
~{/QUEEN MARIE VODOU\}~
Jimmy, I got something for you. I never thought I would have to give it to you, but events in the past months with your father's death, and your current situation, have pushed me to the decision to give it to you.
~{/JIMMY ZANE\}~
What is it?
~{/SETTING\}~
Queen Vodou holds up the envelope and Jimmy comes over to grab it.
~{/QUEEN MARIE VODOU\}~
It's a letter from your father. He wrote it just about a week or so before he was killed. He wanted you to have it. I am going to excuse myself to the other room, so you can read it in private.
~{/SETTING\}~
Jimmy gets up and gives his mom a hug as she leaves the room. He sits down and stares at his name written in his father's handwriting on the envelope. He slowly tears it open and pulls the letter out. He unfolds it, and then reads it to himself.
~{/JIMMY ZANE\}~
Dear Jimmy,
I hope this letter finds you in good spirits. If you have this letter, it means that I am no longer with you. I have had this feeling for months that maybe my time on earth was coming to an end, and that someday you would need me, and I wouldn't be there for you. For that, I am truly sorry. You have been the perfect son to me, and you deserved the perfect father. I know I wasn't there a lot when you were growing up, but you now understand the demands that being a professional wrestler really put on you. I am happy that I watched you become the nMw World Heavyweight Champion, even if it was stolen from you by Adam Knite a few minutes later. That, however, it besides the point. You winning the World Title proves that you are your father's son!
You stepped into some very big shoes, mine. I did everything I ever wanted to do in this sport. I accomplished everything I ever wanted to accomplish. When I was younger, I used to worry about the respect of the guys in the back. The respect of the management I was working for. The respect of the fans. I am sure, at some point in your career, you will too. My advice, kiddo, is to find the only respect that really matters in this world. SELF RESPECT! Don't you let anybody walk over you. Don't ever let anyone get you down. You are from championship bloodline, kiddo! I was a world champion many times over. You have been world champion!
When you realize that you are just as good as anyone else in the company you happen to be working in, that's when you will sail to new heights. That is when you will rise above the challenges that come your way and prove that you are worthy. And that, my son, is when everyone else will REAP THE WHIRLWIND!
So buck up, youngster, and show those other guys that Jimmy Zane is one of the greatest wrestlers to ever walk this earth! You show them that Jimmy Zane is worthy of a shot at their World Title. You show them that you won't take **** off of anybody, and that's the way it's going to be! Whether you win another title in your life, or you don't, it wont matter to me. You will always be a champion in my heart!
I love you, kiddo, and I wish I was there with you to enjoy the victories and defeats. But remember, I am looking over you, and I am sure you will be just fine on your own. And if you need any help, Gibby is always around looking for trouble to get into. Just don't let him grease you up and chase that pig. It's not a training exercise, it's just a way for him to sit around and laugh at you for falling for it!
Be good, Kiddo!
Love, Dad!
~{/SETTING\}~
Jimmy smiles as he reads the letter. He folds it up and places it back into the envelope. He stands up, and puts the letter into his back pocket. He walks out of the room, and walks over to his mother who is looking out the front window.
~{/JIMMY ZANE\}~
Mom, I'm sorry, but I got to go. I got work to do!
~{/QUEEN MARIE VODOU\}~
I figured you would, so I had them bring your car around front. Be careful, my son. You know I can't watch when you wrestle, but I want you to give them hell this weekend!
~{/JIMMY ZANE\}~
You got it mom!
~{/SETTING\}~
Jimmy kisses her on the cheek and runs out the front door. He opens the door to his car and looks up to see her looking out the window to him. He smiles, and she smiles back. He sits down in his car and cranks it up. The rumble of a perfectly tuned engine makes him smile even more as he heads down the driveway. He picks up his cell and dials Chris Phere's cell. It rings a few times......
~{/CHRIS PHERE\}~
Yo, Jimmy! What's up, man?
~{/JIMMY ZANE\}~
Dude, I am leaving my mom's house, headed to Dallas. I will be there in about 9 hours.
~{/CHRIS PHERE\}~
OK, man. I will be there shortly too. I got some great ideas for our next show!
~{/JIMMY ZANE\}~
Me to, man. Me too! I gotta stop and grab some stuff on the way, but you can damn sure bet that this is going to be all out!
~{/CHRIS PHERE\}~
Dude, Brad Kane and Nelly Angel have been talking all kinds of smack about you.
~{/JIMMY ZANE\}~
Yeah, I know. And that's ok, because neither one of them have the ability to make me feel less than I am! Only I can give them that power, and I will be damned if I am going to give it to them.
~{/CHRIS PHERE\}~
Good deal, bro! I will see you soon!
~{/JIMMY ZANE\}~
OK, Chris. Peace!
~{/SETTING\}~
Jimmy hangs up his cell as he stops at a red light. He turns directly into the camera and smiles before he unleashes his tirade.
~{/JIMMY ZANE\}~
Nelly Angel, man do you sound like a total jackass? I mean seriously, man. You want to sit there and say that I am not approachable, and I am a little bit scary because I wore clown makeup and come from a VooDoo background. What kind of wuss are you? Seriously, man, I admit that the clown makeup was a little weird. But I took one seriously bad bump head first on the concrete! So sue me if I was having some after effect issues. Get over it tho, because this week on Wired, you are going to find out just why I am a former World Champion. You are going to find out just why, I am called the VooDoo Child. And you are going to find out that Something Wicked This Way Comes!
And as for you, Brad Kane, you better wake up and realize that I am a threat in nCw. I am a formidible opponent, and I will take you to your very limits. You might think that your last name entitles you titles, fame and fortune, but you couldn't be more wrong. You see, Brad, you say you don't know who my dad was, and you wouldn't care if you did. Well, you might want to wake up and smell the asswhippin. My dad was he legendary Punisher, and in case you have forgotten, it was my Dad that kicked your ass in the very first nCw Main event over a year ago! Come this weekend, you will remember my father, you will be introduced to his son, and you will, REAP THE WHIRLWIND!
