“Here I am again, in another huge match, another chance to climb the ladder. I’ve been here before, many times. I’ve pulled on my tights, strapped up my boots, taped my wrists, it should be automatic now, but this Sunday it’ll be different, ‘cause this Sunday it’s for everything...all the marbles....”
The scene opens with AJ Phoenix sitting with Samantha, he seems to be covered in sweat from a workout, his body gleaming with the moisture on his skin.
Sam:: “Are you alright?...”
The question was a catch twenty two, if AJ answers truthfully she’d want to turn this into a forty minute conversation and he honestly don’t have that kind of time, if AJ just said “yeah of course”, she’d know something was up and still turn it into a forty minute conversation, damn females....
AJ:: “I’ll be fine, I’m just thinking about Sunday is all....”
Sam:: “Oh, are you worried or nervous?...”
Here we go....
AJ:: “A little of both....”
Samantha gets up and kisses AJ on the forehead
Sam:: “I know you’ll do great AJ, you just have to believe in yourself, you’ve come so far and I know that you can win this....”
Samantha opens the door and leaves, AJ gets up and raises an eyebrow confused as Sam usually just keeps talking, he takes a drink from his bottle of water and sighs deeply, he walks out onto the patio of his home staring out at his backyard, the fresh air filling his lungs.
AJ:: “Can I really do this?...”
Of course there’s no answer, AJ was asking himself, the question was a simple one with a not so simple answer. Of course AJ can do it, but he has to believe in himself.
AJ:: “I took this upon myself. I wanted this. I told the world I wanted to be a leader, and I’m almost there, but a true leader doesn’t back down from a fight or challenge, a true leader stays the course....”
AJ turns and makes his way back inside, he stops and turns his head something catching his eye, he picks up an old photo, a photo of MGK, JFK, AJ, Spike, Steve Awesome and a few others who we don’t know, all looking a few years younger than we know them now, could this be a photo of before they all came to NCW?.
AJ:: “I was the youngest, I looked up to all these guys and they all taught me so much. And now some of them stand at my side looking to me for guidance, looking for me to be the one to end this and bring NCW back from the brink of destruction. “
AJ puts the photo down, his face while still young not quite the same “babyface” as he had back then. Of course it could just be the fact he hasn’t shaved in a few days so he has a bit of a beard.....
AJ:: “I’m being looked at now as St Michael the archangel that banished Satan from paradise, it’s funny cause not only am I not as “saintly” as an angel but Adam Knite isn’t quite as bad as Satan......ok, maybe he is, but that’s beside the point. I wanted to be a leader and now I’m close to fulfilling that, I’m giving people hope, before I came back into this war it all seemed lost, the resistance was a few men who were battling a losing fight, but then JFK, MGK and I injected ourselves into this and it’s obvious that not only to the revolution see us as a threat but also Leonard Fox has faith in us...”
AJ smiles warmly as he remembers the night Leonard Fox returned, side by side with the resistance members, and then a few weeks later when he picked Overdrive to represent the resistance in the main event.
AJ:: “You know I’ve talked plenty about the Revolution and how they, particularly Adam Knite, have twisted and turned things, I’ve spoken about their motives. But what I haven’t spoken about, what I haven’t reminded you about is who I am and what I can do....”
An arrogant smirk replaces the warm smile as AJ folds his arms over his well toned chest, a small laugh escaping his lips as he oozes confidence.
AJ:: “When I first came to this company I was supremely arrogant, I believed I should have gone places simply because of my reputation. After all there were many people who knew me from other places, including a man who was a former world champion, a man who I’d had a rather...interesting past with, and that was Mr Spike Kane. But as it was quickly pointed out to me, this company was different, the competition was higher and I had alot of ring rust, my first match here was against Jack Hammond and although I did well he simply outclassed me......but...”
“...a week later I showed a glimpse of what I could do when I beat Joe Everyman. A man who had become a star in NCW, a man who had become the voice of the people, a man everyone could believe in and most importantly, a former champion. It made people take notice and those who hadn’t seen me before were shocked. They slowly started to see that I am indeed something special.”
AJ turns and looks at a trophy case, inside are replica’s of various belts from other companies as well as a trophy from the “2008 NCW elite 8 X-Division tournament”, AJ reaches up and takes down the replica of the NCW X-Division title.
AJ:: “It started to build for me, I won the elite 8, I beat men like Davey Ortega and Xavier Cross to become number one contender, and I told the world I was going to expose Xavier Williams as the false champion he was. And that is exactly what I did, I went into a match where everyone thought Xavier was going to destroy me, after all he had beaten Angel and man who at that time was unstoppable. But I shocked the world and became the X-Division champion and I held the belt for the longest reign since the companies reopening....”
AJ sets the belt down, beaming with pride and confidence.
AJ:: “I defended that belt with honor and integrity, I beat anyone that NCW put infront of me. And the main person they put infront of me was Jack Hammond, the current NCW world champion. And he failed, each time he tried he failed miserably, and let’s face it, the only reason Jack Hammonds beat me on collision was because of the revolution, they say they stand for honor, where’s the honor in that?. I go into this match on Sunday knowing full well that any one of us could end up the number one contender and any one of us could end up being the new “gladiator” of NCW. Last year Dave Holland, Sexy Jason, The Ace, Joe Everyman , Ricky Johnson and John Anthony destroyed each other in this match, with Dave Holland coming out on top, this match made him a star, this match put him in NCW’s elite, but this year the stakes are higher....”
Silence, AJ’s in deep thought, trying to find the words...
AJ:: “This year, the winner will not just be representing himself he’ll be representing his side, the revolution or the resistance, this year the winner will tip the balance of a war that’s been raging for the last few months. A war that was started with the best of intentions, but ended up being all about one man’s greed, that’s right Adam Knite I’m talking to you. As I’ve said, you are the reason your revolution will fail, I pointed it out to you and you’re to blind to see it, but then again I was wrong about who the true leader is, cause after all, you just follow what Kelly Fox tells you to do. You sit there and try and tell her different but then you “come around” to her way of thinking, Adam, in the real world, we call that being pussy whipped....”
“You said you want5ed it to be fair, that Angel and Burns winning would accomplish your goal, then Kelly Fox spoon feeds you this crap about you being the strongest and instantly it’s all “you’re right Kelly dear, how could I have been so stupid”. Good god man, have some self respect. Cause you want to know the truth?. Out of the three of you, I’d say Angel is the strongest chance. He’s the one I’m most worried about, you Adam?, you’re the so called leader and honestly the only thing I care about is beating your head in so maybe MAYBE you’ll wake up to yourself and see that your crusade has turned into a dictatorship....”
AJ sighs deeply and shakes his head, obviously now in a bad mood he tried to calm himself down.
AJ:: “But in the end all good ideas get corrupt by man. I guess it’s in our nature, but come this Sunday Adam, I’ll take great delight in watching all your dreams fade away and everything you’ve worked for go down in flames....”
A smile comes across AJ’s face as he looks back over at the trophy cabinet, still plenty of room left it seems.......Scene fade
