“You must never be satisfied with losing. You must get angry, terribly angry, about losing. But the mark of the good loser is that he takes his anger out on himself and not his victorious opponents or on his teammates.” Richard M. Nixon
The scene opens on the Palace in Auburn Hills. The arena was now empty of the crowds, and the music had faded away with the smell of the pryo that filled the air just hours before. The stage hands had begun to take everything down, to get ready for the next city on the calendar, while a few of the Superstars still hung around getting ready for the celebrations that would be held in their honor after their wins. One figure sat in the stands watching the stagehands move this way and that, gathering up what was left of the ring, and the sound system. We soon see Joanne sitting alone watching them thinking about her match earlier that night. She had Tara on the ropes, along with Freya, but she had gotten distracted, and Freya had been pinned. Another loss and her luck still hadn't changed. She leans back in the seat, and feels pain surge down her left arm, and flinches slightly as she rubs her shoulder. She gets up from where she sits as she spots Reno, Rude and Scarpaci walking toward her. She reaches the main floor as Reno hands her a piece of paper.
Joanne: What's this?
Reno: You have a match next week.
Joanne: Against who?
Rude: Against the Cat Lady...
Joanne looks at them and then at the paper. This was worse than anything she had ever known. They had pushed her back to the low show against someone that she knew she could beat. This was an insult to her abilities, and they knew it. She rips the paper up and walks off with the guys following behind her.
Joanne: This is such a kick to the teeth, I mean I've done well enough to go up against somebody other than the Cat Lady! How dare they do this to me!
Reno: It's not that bad boss... Maybe they just figured after a hard week, you would want an easy win.
Joanne: This isn't goin' to be just a win Reno, it's goin' to be a gawd damn massacre!
Joanne goes to do a bit of shadow boxing, but when she comes with up with her left arm she cringes slightly.
Rude: Boss, you ok?
Scarpaci: Your arm isn't bothering you is it?
Joanne looks at them and smiles slightly.
Joanne: Of course not... I think I just landed it on it wrong that's all... I'm sure that it's nothin'.
Reno: Are you sure that's all it is?
Joanne: Of course it is... Why don't you guys head for the car, and I'll meet you there in a few minutes. I have to go and get my stuff anyway.
Rude: Sure thing boss. C'mon guys.
The three of them walk off, leaving Joanne by herself once more. She leans against the wall and flinches in pain, as she holds her left shoulder. The pain was bad, but nothing that a few pain killers couldn't cure. She wanders down the hallways hoping that she would find the ring doc before he left for the evening, still thinking about her up coming match against the Cat Lady.
Joanne: I don't know why they chose to humiliate me this way, by puttin' me up against the Cat Lady this week, but they will see that they have made a horrible mistake! I'm not goin' to give her an inch to even make a move. She'll be on the mat, wantin' everythin' to end, but guess what I'm not goin' to let it. They wanted a match; they're goin' to have a blood bath on their hands this week! I've proven myself time and time again, and yet this is how they treat me! They put me up against one of the scrubs, and think that I'm not goin' to come on top.
She makes her way through the quiet halls with her high heels clicking on the cement floor as she walks. She makes it to her dressing room, and opens the door, walking into the complete darkness of the empty room. She turns on a light and sighs, and sits on of the chairs as she leans back looking up at the ceiling.
Joanne: Cat Lady do you even think that you can stand against me at all this week? I don't think that you can even last a few minutes in the ring against someone like me, let alone walk away with a win. I don't care who you are or once were, all that matters is how long you can bring to the ring to try and take me down. I'm not goin' to go easy on you, and I will not give up no matter what you do. I'm in this to win it, and nothin' more.
She closes her eyes as she feels the pain rip through her body once more. It was getting worse and that wasn't good. She had to get something for the pain before her match, or she would be in big trouble. she gets up from where she sits, and grabs her bag, heading out the door, and back down the long hallway.
Joanne: Bring everything you have to the ring on Friday night Cat Lady, and see how long you will last against someone like me. I've been in this business a long time, and the more I think about it, I've faced more pathetic opponents then you. I've taken down some big guys, and ones that were a bit off like you. Friday night I'm goin' to show the world that I still have what it takes to run with the big boys and get away from the lower card and scrubs like you Cat Lady. I mean what are you goin' to do, bring a cat to the ring and throw it at me? You know when I was growin' up we had a woman like that in our neighborhood. She was crazy, and threw cats... But that's neither here nor there.
Joanne just smiles to herself, as she spots the Ring Doctor and walks over to him, and stops him for a moment, and heads into the small area where he had set up shop for the evening and leads her inside. He looks at her arm, and starts applying pressure to her shoulder causing her to flinch.
Joanne: So what do you think Doc?
Doctor: I think you might have a week max before those tendons and muscles rip again. If I were you, I wouldn't step into that ring this week, but I've heard about you, and you never listen to what Doctor's tell you.
Joanne: So this could be my last match huh?
Doctor: It could be, but then again, without an x-ray, and a full examination, I can't really be sure. Get yourself checked out, before you even step into the ring this week.
Joanne just sighs, and heads for the door. Doctors had been wrong before, and they would be wrong again this time. She tries to rotate her left arm, and groans in pain as she does, as the Doctor shakes his head and walks off.
Joanne: Cat Lady don't think because I'm hurtin' that you'll be able to get the upper hand in our match this week. It's just an old injury comin' back to haunt me for a bit. I'll be fine by Friday night, and will be ready to kick your ass all over that ring, and walk away the winner. I just hope you're ready to be taken down by someone that is a hell of a lot better then you will ever be. See you soon Cat Lady. We are the Mafioso, and we get paid to kick your ass!
Joanne just smiles to herself, as she walks off down the hall toward the underground parking lot, leaving us to wonder if Joanne will be fit enough to take on the Cat Lady on Friday night, as the scene fades to black.
