OPENING
Well here we are again fans, another NCW pay per view week, and this week marks the last of the “number 3” shows. What do I mean by that, well I tell you exactly it means starting after Battle Grounds, we’re going to start hitting the the fourth shows in our PPV series, beginning with ROAD TO THE GOLD IV. Speaking of which, I demand that everybody who writes into this column to spell it exactly like that, make it really special. It’s going to be amazing, but that’s for a different time, today I’m here to talk about freaking Battle Grounds and how it’s shaping up to be an awesome show itself.
Anyway, I’m not going to waste much time here today, I’ve got a lot to get into and I have a lot of stuff to do, to get ready for the big show, so I have to keep things rolling you see. I’ll just say as a little teaser that the shows this week were fantastic and the card for Battle Grounds looks stacked. I can’t wait and I hope you can’t either.
Last week’s poll was over the best named Super Kick that is used in NCW, with the exclusion of Doc, you know since we all know he’d of just won even if it was called “The Worst Kick Ever”, but I think you guys picked a good one regardless. The Magic Touch, I don’t know what there is about it, but it just sounds right, it sounds like a special move, it sounds exciting, and it fits, so I have to agree, well done fans on your choice of picks this week, lets see if you can keep impressing me and pick another great choice in this week’s poll, which as always will be about what match do you think is going to be the most exciting on the show?
There are a lot of great choices, I’m going to throw the Warfare match in there, even though I typically try and avoid obvious choices like that, and lets just see what happens shall we? Will it be the “Street Fighter” match between Zelda and Cleo? What about the huge Tag Team Championship match between the Young Guns and Angle/AJ? Maybe even a kind of surprise one, maybe you really want to see this X Championship match between the four men who have been trying to rip each other’s heads off for a month. It’s all up to you, choose wisely.
LAST WEEK REVIEW
Oh man did we have some good shows this week. There was plenty of action to go around, so much so we saw a great matchup between Zelda Knit e and Latoya Ryder opening up Trauma, we saw a match like Ricky Johnson versus Steve Awesome not be the main event of Collision. That right there tells me that we are getting more and more stacked with talent and that is only a good thing in the long run, I’m telling you NCW is looking up which is amazing considering we were pretty “up” to begin with.
Trauma, well I have to admit wasn’t the best show that we’ve had in recent weeks from that side of NCW, but it was still very well done and had some good action, which makes it a good solid show, which is what we try and do with Trauma. LaToya pushed the Women’s world champion to the limit in our opening match, and really turned some heads wit her showing, that’s why she’s been put against Emma Danielson at Battle Grounds for the #1 contendership, if she wins and Zelda makes it past Cleo I expect her to learn from this and be able to push Zelda even harder, it not beat her this time around. However, it certainly was not the most interesting thing of the night, which obviously goes to this Maniac and Rob Diamond fight, they couldn’t work together and it cost them and now they’ll be in a barbwire massacre at Battle Grounds. Joe Ragnal and Evan Andrews could of beaten them without the assist I think, so it was still a great win by those two, however Maniac was the trending topic of the night with his actions, who knows what’s going on in Chris Diamond’s head. I don’t even want to guess.
Then of course, we have Collision. Man there was a lot going on this show, everything that has been building for the past month just came all together on this show and I thought it was just simply amazing. We have Gib announcing himself as the special guest referee for the Warfare match, just to keep things fare, we had Joe Everyman and Ashlie Ember step up to the plate to join the Front Office team to show just how much he’s willing to work for this, and what kind of commentator would I be if I didn’t bring up Angel and Alex Jones putting aside their differences, putting aside the hatred that caused them to nearly kill each other, to join sides against the Young Guns. Like I said there were a lot of things that came together and I thought it came off very well fans.
Now think about this, none of that even mentions the matches we had on the show! Oh man, did we have a good card, not overly great, but some very fine matches without a doubt. Of course the star of the night was the three way match for the National title, and the star of that match was Freakke who walks away with another NCW title. This just goes and shows you people what hard work will get you in this business. If I would of told you a few months ago that Freakke would be National champion right now, you’d probably would of laughed in my face, now look at him. He’s been working hard and earned that title. That match plus ones like Falcon taking on Adam Knite and Steve Awesome taking on Ricky Johnson, made Collision a very good show. Wasn’t the best ever, but it holds its own.
PREVIEW OF THIS WEEK
Finally, the time I've been waiting for.. where I can pimp Battle Grounds beyond belief and make you want to vomit with all the awesomeness of the show. Man do we have a great show here, just look at the opening match where Ricky Johnson, Xavier Williams and Jason Blair fight for a chance at the national title, that's a sign that there are going to be some amazing matches on the show. Ones I'm really looking forward to would definetly be the matches with the Dead Girls invovled, not because I care about them any at all, but because I'm looking forward to seeing them get stomped into the ground. Then after that, of course the No Limits Ladder match to crown the first ever NCW Unified X Champion is going to be a great on, those four men... wow, there's a lot of hate there right now.
I don't know what else I can say about this show that they card sitting here in front of you can't, because this is going to be one of those shows where if you miss it, you're going to freaking regret it, I promise you that. Anyway, lets get with the predictions shall we?
LAST WEEK'S RECORD:: 7-5 :: Not great, but not horrible, I can still do better, I just know I can. I vow to do better this week infact. Just you wait and see.
OVERALL RECORD:: 190-113 :: I'm getting closer to 200 right predictions come on, give me a round of applause, you know that's awesome.
UPSET OF THE WEEK RECORD:: 9-15 :: I picked the right match, I didn't pick the right wrestler, but you know what, I'm counting it. Just try and stop me, I dare you. Come on, try it. That's what I thought.
Wired:
Singles Match
Chuck Moss vs. Dorien Wolvernskorn
:: Don't know anything about either man, but I'll go with Dorien, because his name reminds me of Delorean and I love Back to the Future.
Singles Match
Red Dragon vs. Hugo Conway
:: Going to have to go with the new guy on the two match winning streak, sorry Red Dragon, immense talent, but this Hugo kid has been impressing everybody.
#1 Contender for the Women's Title
Singles Match
Latoya Ryder vs. Emma Danielson
:: Tough one here, both are big and strong and both would love to get rematches against Zelda (assuming Zelda wins). I'm going to side with Emma here, but I think it's going to be a close one.
Singles Match
Xavier Cross vs. Freakke
:: Freakke is fresh off that National title win, I don't know how I can vote against him right now, he should be taking that momentum and running with it.
nCw Honor Championship
Gabriel Karras vs. Mike Honcho
:: The insane priest or the awesome mustache? I don't know about you, but I'm thinking the Stache is just too powerful for even Karras to overcome.
Battlegrounds:
#1 Contender - National Title Match
Triple Threat Match
Ricky Johnson vs. Xavier Williams vs. Jason Blair
:: Very hard one to judge, I'm going to get a little risky here, call it my upset of the week and pick Jason Blair as the winner of this match.
Xtreme Tornado Tag Match
Maria De La Rosa and Malice vs. Rayne and Ayla St. James
:: I'm not picking the dead girls to win ****.
#1 Tag Contender Tag Match
Tag Team Match
The Brothers Holland vs. Motor City Mafia
:: This should be a good one between two former NCW tag team champion teams. I like the Hollands though, they're in the Hall of Fame for a reason you know.
nCw Tag Team Championships
Doc and Venom* vs Angel and Alex Jones
:: This is a hard one, there is so much talent on both sides of this match I barely know where to begin throwing my praise. Since I Have to pick, I'm going with the Young Guns, just because I know they're good friends and a team... I'm not so sure Angel and Alex can coexist, despite the hatchet apparently being buried.
Women's World Championship
Street Fighter Match
Zelda Knite* vs Cleopatra
:: Like I said, it usually turns out bad when I pick against Zelda, so I'm not making that mistake here.
The X Title Match
No Limits Ladder Match
JFK vs Tempestad vs Evan Andrews vs Joe Ragnal
:: Very hard one to choose, any one of these men could easily take this match and run away with it, but I believe I'll have to go with Evan Andrews here, call it a hunch, or call it that man is very good, but he'll find a way.
Barbed Wire Massacre
Maniac vs Rob Diamond
:: I have no idea, nor do I care, because it's a shame to see brothers fighting like this.
Grudge Match
Adam Knite vs Sephiroth Du Lac
:: Good luck Du Lac, you're going to need it pal. Adam Knite has that black haired princess of his on his mind, he had to go through one of his best friends to get this match, it's going to be a tough week to be a vampire.
nCw World Championship
Philip Burns* vs DDK
:: Philip Burns held off DDK last time, but I don't know if he can do it two times in a row, very few people can say they've survived two banging attempts from DDK.
Warfare Match
Steve Awesome, Joe Everyman, Charlie Velez, and Ron Gibson vs Brad Kane, Andrew Jacobsen, Falcon, and Will Washington
:: I'm going for the double whammy here, I'm going to pick the winning team, and the last man standing for two points. Give me the Revolution team and give me Andrew Jacobsen winning this for his team.
So there you go, my wonderful and surely can't miss predictions that will surely miss and make me look like an idiot, but I do it anyway because I love you guy picks for Battle Grounds.
THE FAB FIVE
5: Hugo Conway:: That makes two in a row for the rookie, he's looking better every week.
4: Joe Everyman:: He just keeps finding ways to win, maybe not the way he wanted, but hey, it was still a win danggit.
3: Ricky Johnson:: Ricky Johnson just beat Steve Awesome, that's quite the feat in and of itself, gotta go with him as a top performer.
2: Adam Knite:: He made Falcon tap out, what more do I have to say?
1: Freakke:: Hey anybody who can walk out of a match against Charlie Velez and Sephiroth Du Lac with a title belt around his waist deserves this honor, however small it might be.
WHAT TO KEEP AN EYE ON
::B*tches with Attitude:: The newly formed team has done so for a purpose, to stop the Dead Girls from tearing through the NCW Women's roster, lets just hope they can do so, because I really can't stand those girls.
::Jason Blair:: It's his first chance at an NCW title, he's been undefeated since he returned to NCW, so that right there should make him somebody to keep an eye on. Not to mention that he seems to have definitely refined his skills while he was away because he looks sharp in the ring. He's going to be a dangerous man in upcoming weeks.
::X Championship Match:: The Xtreme and X-Division titles are merging into one title and four men have a chance of making their names a permanent fixture in the NCW record books. This would be a great match on it's own right, but the fact that it's a No Limits Ladder match!? That just makes it even more awesome, it could steal the show, yes, even against the Warfare match.
::Maniac vs. Rob Diamond:: I regretfully list this, but it's a Barb Wire Massacre match, I'm not sure what the hell that's supposed to mean, but it sounds brutal and it sounds bloody and it sounds just like what some fans love to see. You might want to keep an eye on it if you enjoy that sorta thing, which I'm sure you do.
THE KNITELINE
Milo Holland; Los Angeles, California
*Sounds of scuffling* Dave, let go of the phone! *More scuffling* Look, I'll be calm alright?! *Final scuffle*
Hi, Kelly. Milo Holland, Long time reader, first time caller. Firstly, love the show, really do. Congratulations on the 27 weeks. So... I beat Steve Awesome... One of your father's prize fighters... The very REASON for the front office's existence... and I don't get a mention? I mean come on! Not even in the summary!
*scuffle*
ALL I.. *scuffle* DAMMIT DAVE!.. *scuffle*
Hi, Dave here. Don't mind him, he's just cranky. Love the show, bye. *dialtone*
:: Come on Milo, you know I love you, sorta I guess... anyway, I can't be expected to remember every second fiddle that walks through the doors and does something half way competent you know.
Dave T. Zombie, K Town PA
With three Major Stables in nCw's roster practically clawing at each others throats, which two groups do you think will openly go to war at Battlegrounds? Or Will all three just go at it?
:: Well they've already been announced, so I guess this is kind of pointless, but really you should of seen this one coming. Revolution.. Front Office, it's been brewing for a while.
Sam from Colorado
Joe Everyman? REALLY? No offense to the guy and I give him all the credit in the world for the streak he's on but REALLY? Joe Everyman in the main event???
:: I rag on that boy a lot, but I can't here. There was a spot open, there was a chance to make history and you know what... he stepped out and took it. That's gutsy and it could be a huge turning point for him in his career.
Bob; Connecticut
If there were a nCw fantasy league, who would your first 3 picks be, assuming Adam and Zelda Knite were already taken?
:: That's a tough one, but you know what.... give me Charlie Velez, Steve Awesome (yeah I know... but he can wrestle) and Dave Holland..
MY CLOSING THOUGHTS
:: I said this on Collision, but if Zelda comes out dressed as some stinking video game character for this “Street Fighter” match, and I have to listen to Willy and Eric drool over her in their geekdom, I'm going to scream.
:: You wanna know who is awesome? My husband, first he fights a brutal Iron Man Match for me and my freedom, now he's going against some psycho dude with fangs, because of what his team did to his sister. He's so sweet.
:: Man is it just me, or do you get really excited when Gib walks out wearing that gold badge and starts acting all mean to people. I love that big oaf.
:: I've gotta say, I rag on Joe Everyman a lot and I hate that skank he may or maynot be screwing, but that took a lot of balls. He's been demanding his shot at the spotlight with Ashlie's guiding and well... this was the perfect opportunity, maybe she's having a great effect on him afterall. Win or lose, he got a lot of people's attention, no doubt about it.
:: Brad Kane has been out for a while, nursing a few injuries and is immediately in this kind of cage match, in this kind of environment.... I really hope he's ready because it's going to be intense.
:: Is Xavier Cross just going to sit on the World Title shot he earned at the three year celebration? If I was him, I'd of cashed it right after the World title match on Battle Grounds.
:: So it looks like for the time being, JFK and Tempestad are going to be the last X-Division and Xtreme champions in NCW. Good work guys, you earned it. Now try and win that X Championship.
:: What is up with Gabriel Karras? Is he forming some kind of army? Are people really that stupid? I guess so.
Well NCW fans, that's all I've got for today, I hope you enjoyed this colum and I hope you tune in and love Battle Grounds, here's looking forward to ROAD TO THE GOLD IV and to a great next few weeks. Until next time...
