Random Thoughts: Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys are off this week (as are Oakland, Detroit and Tampa Bay) and I think they need it after the beating they took at the hands of visiting Chicago this past Monday night. The bad news, of course, is that they lost the game, rather convincingly, I might add. The good news? Romo set a record in the game…He’s the first quarterback in NFL history to throw 5 INTs on Monday Night Football.
OK, so maybe that’s not such good news.
Did I mention that when Dallas comes back from their bye, they play at Baltimmore? Uh, yeah.
So, just how bad was the J-E-T-S this past Sunday at home against San Francisco? If you listened to the home crowd booing Mark Sanchez and Co. or Rex Ryan reeling off the stats at his press conference after the game, then you know it was THAT bad. The last time the Jets were shut out? October 1, 2010, when they lost to Green Bay, 9-0. Sunday’s game versus the Niners was also the Jets worst shut-out home lost since being trounced by the Bills 37-0 23 years ago.
As in, George H.W. Bush was still in office.
If anything, the Jets have lost both Revis, and now Santonio Holmes this past Sunday, talk about rotten luck! This Monday night against Houston, they are going to need more than luck, they’re going to need a divine MIRACLE to win this football game. Let the bench warming begin, and the Tebow chants commence.
New Orleans suffered another heartbreaking lost last week in Green Bay to fall to 0-4, their worst start since 2007 when they also lost the first four games to start the season (but wound up going 7-5 the rest of the way to finish in a second-place tie with Carolina at 7-9, missing the playoffs) as life without head coach Sean Payton is really starting to sink in. This week, Drew Brees will play against his former team in San Diego, where he played for five seasons, from 2001-2005. Can New Orleans stop the bleeding, or will San Diego continue their momentum from last week’s divisional win over Kansas City?
