JANUARY 3RD, 2013. METAMORPHOSIS.
{The scene opens up backstage, directly after the Unsanctioned Match at Metamorphosis. Will Washington walks around the backstage area and breezes past some behind the scenes workers. He heads through the arena and sees Mitch Kennedy standing against a wall, looking over a clipboard.}
Will Washington: "Where's Kelly?"
{Mitch looks up.}
Mitch Kennedy: "Uh. I think I saw her over (pointing) there."
{Washington heads in that direction, looking for his boss. He spots Kelly and walks over with a quick stride.}
Will Washington: "You saw what happened out there, right Kelly? I beat your little redemption project... and now where is he? In an ambulance on his way to getting pieced back together... Just like I promised."
{Kelly brings her hands up and claps slowly and sarcastically.}
Kelly Knite: "Bravo, Will. Congratulations. You put a man in the hospital. You should be very proud."
Will Washington: "You think I'm proud of what I have to do? You forced my hand. You tried to give that junkie a job, and it was up to me to stop it. I have to do the dirty work to try and save this place."
Kelly Knite: "You have to? I don't remember asking you to do any sort of 'dirty work' for me."
Will Washington: "I'm not going to let this place be ruined by people like Doc. You may turn a blind eye to the situation, but I don't have that luxury."
Kelly Knite: "How nice of you to annoint yourself the savior of NCW."
Will Washington: "Somebody has to make sure this place doesn't go to crap, and right now, you're not doing it. You let Verona convince you to hire his friend, a known drug addict, because he thought it was a good idea. You let people like Verona, Xander, and The Ace do whatever they want and not face the consequences."
Kelly Knite: "Everyone in NCW answers to me, Will. You may not understand my methods, but I don't have to explain myself to you. Now if you don't mind..."
{Before Kelly can turn to leave, Will reaches out and grabs her arm. She turns her head and looks at him with a death glare. Washington quickly pulls his arm back.}
Will Washington: "Fine. You can make whatever decisions you want. I understand. So why don't you finally make a good decision for once, and give me a title shot."
Kelly Fox: "And just what makes you think that you deserve a shot at the champion?"
Will Washington: "I've been here for over three years on-and-off, and I've never had a one-on-one shot at ANY champion, ever."
Kelly Fox: "Well if you keep questioning me like you have been, you may never get a championship opportunity."
Will Washington: "Come on, Kelly. I've played the games. I've sat quietly and waited, but I never got anything for being the good little soldier. I'm tired of falling in line. I want an opportunity to finally break free."
Kelly Fox: "It's not the right time. You'll get your shot one day, but not right now. Your day will come."
Will Washington: "If you won't give me a shot... something that I've rightfully earned... at least give me a non-title match with Verona or Laszlo next week."
Kelly Fox: "You want the champ?"
Will Washington: "Non-title?"
Kelly Fox: "Non-title."
Will Washington: "If that's your best offer, I'll take it."
Kelly Fox: "Good. I'm glad I could accomodate you."
Will Washington: "I'm just glad I can get in there with the champion. But when I beat him... Roberto or Mike... whoever... just know that I'm going to come to you for a title shot again. And next time... I won't take no for an answer."
Kelly Fox: "Keep your rapey-sounding threats to yourself."
Will Washington: "Yeah... that sounded better in my head."
{Fade out.}

"There are a lot of things that I could say about Metamorphosis. I could come out here and gloat about how I sent Doc to the hospital and out of NCW once and for all. I could tell you I told you so and go on some big rant about how Doc was no match for me, and I made an example of him. I could do all that while grinning from ear to ear and laughing right in the faces of all those that doubted me."
"... but that's not what I'm here for."
"Chris Docherty tried to corrupt... he tried to warp the minds of the impressionable youth of New Championship Wrestling. Roberto Verona brought him in here to be the ace up his sleeve. With Verona as World Champion and Doc making sure no one ever grew to challenge him, Roberto had a nice little set-up going. He could sit up on his throne and look down as every time someone stepped on the first rung of the ladder, a tidal wave of mediocrity and corruption rose to meet them and swept them back into the shadows. With that in his pocket, his goons backing him, and the faith of management behind him, we were staring straight into the eyes of the latest dynasty ruling over the landscape of NCW. The storm clouds were brewing. Dark days were ahead."
"Yet, a ray of sunlight shone through.... the guiding light."
"That's where I come in, Robbie. Doc's gone now and he may never be back. One of your pawns has been taken out of play, and now I'm looking across the board, and all I see is the man who calls himself 'King'. The gold is in my sights, and there's nothing to hold me back. I've been to hell and back just to get to where I am now, so you can be damn sure that I'll go even further if it means that I'll get even the slightest bit closer to that World Championship title. You may not see me as a threat, but the biggest disasters are the ones you never saw coming... the ones that leave your life in shambles... broken... wondering what you could have done differently."
"You see... You are the man in NCW right now, Verona. You're the guy that we're all chasing... the one we're all hoping to dethrone. You promised revolution and then sold your soul to become the man you once hated. You went from the starving hunter to the fat and content lion in a matter of months. Now you use your goon squad to keep that belt around your waist, realizing that the best way to fight your battles is to not fight at all. Sure Mike Laszlo gave you a challenge, but you knew that you were never in any real danger with him nipping at your heels. Now that he's gone, you can feel a certain sense of peace again. You can rest for a while and wait for your next challenger to make it through the gauntlet you and management set up for them."
"And that's your fatal flaw. You send out Xander, Doc, masked men.... whoever you have in your arsenal to fight your battles for you. Only when push comes to shove will you even man up to face the challenges in front of you. You're not a champion, Verona. You can tell the world that you're the best wrestler in NCW... you can tell them that you're what a true champion is supposed to be. I'm sure you've got people in your ear telling you that same thing every day. But I'm here to tell you that the emperor has no clothes."
"... soon the world will see what you refuse to."
"While you've faced Mike Laszlo and Andrew Jacobsen, and beaten both, you've never faced me. You don't even seem to want to acknowledge my existence. Like those in-charge here, you've been program to ignore me completely and hope that I go away. I won't. You can see me right in front of you, and still pretend like I don't matter... pretend like I'm nothing. Maybe I won't get a shot at you this month... or the month after that... or the one after that. But one day I'm going to get you in that ring with the title on the line, and I'm going to save that belt... and I'm going to save NCW."
"You have an important task in front of you this week, as well, Roberto. I fight to save that belt from you, and you fight to save the name of your friend. I destroyed Doc. I left him beaten and embarrassed. I showed the world that his name means nothing around here anymore, and I proved to all the doubters that he couldn't hang with me. Now it's up to you to try and salvage his memory. You brought him here, and I sent him away. By vanquishing a man that you personally vouched for, I made you look like a loser... a chump... a fraud. Your credibility took a hit, and now everyone is questioning your judgment. I'm fighting for a shot at the gold... you're fighting to protect your friend's reputation."
"... How can you save Doc when you can't even save yourself?"
"It may not be for the title this Sunday, but god knows this match still means something. For all the talk about my lack of physical accomplishments here, you can point to this one fact as evidence why: This is my first one-on-one match EVER with the reigning World Champion, title or non-title. In the three years I've been here, I've never once had an opportunity to get into the ring with the champion. I don't have people handing me opportunities left and right like you do. I don't have a group looking after me, keeping me safe. I don't have back-up.... I don't have goons. You have an army. I'm an army of one."
"For years the people running this place have been afraid of what may happen if they put their golden boy in the ring with me, and on Collision, I prove those fears to be correct. Because whether I win or lose to you, Verona, you'll know exactly who Will Washington is and what I'm about..."
"... And you'll know it's only a matter of time before I hunt you down and take that belt once and for all."
"You're a champion in title only. I'm a champion, crowned or not. I have a message.... a purpose... a calling. You're here to try and hold onto that title as long as you can, and I'm here because NCW needs me. I saved them from the junkie, and I'll save them from the tyrants. The days of Verona are quickly winding down and an era of enlightenment is on the horizon."
"You can see me, Roberto... Kelly... You know I'm here. Soon you'll have no choice but to take me seriously and give me what I deserve... or I'll have to take it."
"After years of staring at the sun, you'll still be too ignorant to understand how you went blind."
