Kathleen Conway is fuming as she walks away from Zelda and Jasmine. She then spots her husband, The Ace, walking the other way towards his locker-room, unwrapping the white tape from his wrists as he walks, feeling rather good about having made that insufferable douchebag Rob Diamond tap out with the latest evolution to his move set. Kathy runs up to him with a smile.
The Ace: Did you see that? God it felt good to shut his piddly ass up, at least long enough so I don't have to deal with him again...
Kathy: Actually baby, I was on my way out there to celebrate your win with you, then I got a little sidetracked by Zelda and Jasmine...
The Ace: Oh? Anything I should know about?
Kathy: Funny you should say that. Actually there is. Zelda got on to the phone with her brother and just got the okay to turn my rightful one on one match with Zelda into a triple threat match with Jasmine now in the mix...
The Ace: WHAT?
Kathy: Tell me that isn't bull****...
The Ace: It is, everybody knows you earned your shot fair and square. You know what this is don't you? It's one final **** you to me, to us, because we are not Knites, we don't run the company and they know it. Adam is all too well aware that even my position as Head Of Starlets has its limits. He knows I cannot overrule him or his wife Kelly...
Kathy: Yes, I know, I've been in this business long enough now to know how this business works, especially when you're dealing with management...
The Ace: So what do you want me to do?
Kathy: Honestly, I just want another match next week, I want to be tested right up to my meeting with destiny at A Night To Remember...
The Ace: Tested huh? Now that I can do. One of the most important things to learn on the road to being a Champion in this business is how to work with people you really can't stand, like what just happened out there with Curtis and I. You don't always have to take the Simon Daye or Jasmine Barerra approach. Every once in a while the match is more important than your sense of pride and that's what I want you to learn before the biggest match of your career...
Kathy: I have a feeling I know what you're thinking, but I'm willing to listen, you've never steered me wrong before...
The Ace: As my final act as Head of the Starlets Division, I will give you exactly what you asked for sweetie, a test, not only of your readiness to bring the fight to Zelda but also of your patience and will. Next week you will team up with Jasmine against Zelda Knite and Crystal Williams. Sometimes the traditional wrestling cliches really are the best...
Kathy tilts her head to the side, and takes a moment to reflect, before nodding.
Kathy: Now that is a test...
Crystal Williams and Zelda Knite - the greatest female tag team in the history of New Championship Wrestling gets its swan song...I can't really say that when I told my husband I wanted to be tested that I knew this was what he'd come up with. The well established and dominant team against the rightful number one contender to Zelda's crown and somebody who got thrown into the mix out of some sense of pity. I've seen Casino and Snowdrop look at me wide-eyed and I've always had to give into them too when they just look so gosh darn sad, it is as adorable as it is heartbreaking to refuse. I may not agree with it, but I understand why you did it Zelda, I understand why you made the call to your dear brother.
I've had a couple of days to sit back and reflect, and you know what I realised? I realised that I really shouldn't be surprised that you went to bat for Jasmine, I mean why wouldn't you give a shot to a woman who willingly puts herself flat on her back inside the ring when you yourself have developed quite the reputation for doing the same outside of it? Now I'm not about to hit you with the ridiculous double standard of being a slut, how can I? I mean look who I married. Back in his younger days, when he had more hair he was considered quite the player too you know, so I understand the impulses of youth, I really do.
I can completely understand that you've made some downright stupid choices in your life, at least in a romantic sense, we all have those...I mean as somebody who has shared a bed with Sexy Jason and Reckoning, I really have no room to point and laugh at you about the fact that you've jumped from one insufferable prick to the next, but I feel I may just have to do it anyway...
Kathy suddenly bursts out laughing, almost snorting as she does so and does indeed point a finger - her middle finger. adorned for this occasion with her wedding band, up in front of the camera, a not so subtle gesture to the three time Starlets World Champion that while Zelda indisputably had control over a wrestling ring, she'd never quite mastered the ring that really mattered, the ring that would be there when the lights and the pageantry of the business went out, when the roars of the crowd faded, when all that was left of the Zelda Knite legend was a faded autograph and memories of better days.
I'm sorry, now we've gotten that out of the way, perhaps we should move on, you see Zelda, as talented and gifted as you are in that ring, it can't have escaped your notice that you've been carrying Crystal and keeping her relevant for pretty much her whole career in this company, and I can only imagine the tremendous sense of relief that must come from knowing this will be the last time you will be saddled with that leech. I'm not trying to sow the seeds of dissension here, just telling the stone cold truth as I see it.
Crystal Williams has gotten by on the grace of your charity because you two bonded over playing Mario Kart or something for so long now that you must be used to it, what's one more time, right? What's one last act of charity? Crystal is perfectly happy to have that little asterisk next to her name that reads 'with Zelda Knite', hell she's even more proud of it than Mercedes Vargas was when I carried her piddly ass to that title she won one time in that handicap match which was so unfair. Oh dear Crystal, what's this have I just neutered your go to criticism of me? I guess now you'll have no choice but to double up on your 'me and Zelda' statements to make up for it, especially when we both know you have nothing on me, especially when I whooped your ass the last time we went one on one, but by all means feel free to tell me more about how that doesn't matter, I'll just amuse myself imagining you as Willy Wonka while you do.
Of course no trip to Zelda Knite abd her chocolate factory would be complete without an oompa loompa, and it just so happens I'm bringing one with me this Sunday. See Jazz, initially I was angry, at first I didn't want to share my ride up in the Great Glass Elevator with a Mopey Molly like you, I don't need your depression or your half-assing it dragging me down, but then I figured you really have no reason not to compete and you have no reason not to want to win this match. You have even more of a point to prove to Zelda than I do. The onus is on you Jasmine to prove to us, the champion and challenger that you deserve the right to be in the Starlets Title match, you want to be the third wheel, you want to be the gooseberry on my date with Zelda, you want to stop me being as lucky as half the male locker-room when it comes to screwing Zelda, fine...I'll let you.
Consider it my final act of charity for you Jasmine.
Just don't expect me to watch your back if you're planning to stick a knife in mine.
Kathy and Jake stand in the doorway of their eldest daughter, Solitaire;s bedroom watching her sleep. They smile at one another.
Kathy: Isn't she adorable?
Jake: Unquestionably. Though I really don't think you should read her quite so much Roald Dahl before cutting a promo. It shows...
Kathy: I don't care, my baby comes first and she always will. I'm going to give everything I have in two weeks, not just for me or you, but for our babies. You know what she was telling me just now?
Jake: What?
Kathy: That yesterday she had a dream that both mommy and daddy were champions at the same time...
Jake smiles.
Jake: You know I've thought about that too...
Kathy: It really made me stop and think. I really want to make all her dreams come true and I'n going to do all I can...especially since Zelda gave me the right to choose the stipulation for our match...
Jake raises an eyebrow.
Jake: Wait, what? Why am I just hearing about this now?
Kathy grins.
Kathy: I'm surprised at you babe, you of all people should know never to reveal your hand too early.
Jake: So what are you planning?
Kathy steps away from her husband.
Kathy: Right now? An early night...
Kathy turns and winks over her shoulder at her husband, and the grin on his face tells the whole story as he excitedly follows her into their bedroom.
