Bitches and Gentleman, it's showtime...
No need for introductions, lets get into the meat
Story:
You play as Niko Bellic, and immigrant from (didnt catch the name, but it is an Eastern European country). He basically comes to America, after reciving numerous e-mails fromhis cousin, Roman, about the lavish lifestyle he lives in America. And when he hops off the boat he arrives in sunny, happy, and allways pleasent, Liberty City. Needless to say, Roman... imbelished on his lavish lifestyle... like ALL of it. So your living in a sack-of-crap apartment and you need money, and in GTA tradition... you make money my doing various odd jobs, and missions for the City's colorful cast of charatcers.
Gameplay:
Everything about this game seems, new, from shooting to combot and to driving. No longer are the days of simply opening everycar and just hopping in, you now have to break the window, hotwire the car, and make sure there are no cops around to see you doing so. But as you would expect, the driving echanics are solid as the cars now display damage, and the damage effects the diving as well... you smash your right side... expect your car to drift that way... no tires = slower car, and other things. While the higher model cars have been described to be, "squirlly"... it is really a treat to drive around the city. Something thathas plauged the series, is the shooting and fighting mechanics. And while thy are improved, they are not perfect. The new auto-targetting system, is great to use, but it seems to have a problem, with detecting more serious threats. But with a half-press of the trigger, it allows a free aim mode and it allows for leg shots, arm hits, and the always pleasing, HEAD SHOT! The fighting system is to improved, it allows for disarming opponets... but it doesnt hurt to pull out a pistol and take care of business that way.
Another add on to the gameplay is your cellphone. Your cellphone, is basically your hud, you can call contacts for work or any other service, Take on missions, and get information on others. And the more you build a relationship with your contacts, you will unlock their "special ability". Roman, allows for a cab ride to anywhere. Little Jacob, will offer you guns off the black market, and evensome Girlfriends have little perks... like health pickups in stick situations. But, these contacts also open up, numerous side missions, will more play put like dates, than actual, "missions". Go play darts, pool, go to the strip club, or go see a show. You can go to bars and get COMPLETLY ****ING WASTED! And like in real-life, drinking and driving is wrong, VERY WRONG! but you can sill do it, and it is fun listening to Niko's drunken babble.
All the traditional trapping of GTA games are here, Drug Runs, Street Races, theft (duh?), have all returned, as well as 'those missions' you know, the ones that take FOREVER to pass.
Graphics and Sound:
The city is alive, the simplist way I could put it. From the radio stations, to the just the banter of the people of the streets. And the city... is jut breathtaking. Just taking a stroll down the streets is an adventure... way know, if you are running from the cops. The character models are vastly improved and the euphoria physics engines, makes running down hookers, a work of art. The voice acting is on par with past GTA games, while they lack the "A-list" talent of past games, the voice acting is incredible.
Multiplayer:
It GTA Online. One Word. Madness. Let me say it like this, there is ALWAYS something to do, be it some Mafiya Work, GTA Race, Free for all Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch or my favorite, Cops and Crooks. Where you get to play as the other side of the law. And it adds anotehr dimension to the game. While it is nothing like a Call of Duty 4, or a Halo 3... it does offer a good break from those games. 16 player max, oh BTW the way to get to Multiplayer... your cell phone... I WANT THAT PHONE!
It's not perfect, but it is pretty damn close. And I think it is a fitting chapter to the GTA Series, easily the best in the series, and one of the best games I have played, if you havent played this game... PLAY IT NOW!
9.5 out of 10
+ Story, Cell Phone adds depth
+ Fun, Addicting, Multiplayer
+ Just Fun to roam the city
- Fighting system, still needs improvment
- Contact will call during missions,a nd they tend to get bitchy if you blow them off... 'Im sorry, Michelle, I didnt feel like taking you to dinner, becuase I am in a car with a ****ING BOMB INSIDE!'
-textures tend to repeat themselves.
