I went and rented TNA Impact for the 360 the other day, and I have to say it is one of the worst wrestling games ever made. The only good thing is the graphics are half way ok otherwise the rest of the game sucked. Midway had BOMBED big time with this one.

It can't be as bad as the WWE RAW games for XBox though.....can it?

No it's worse then WWE Raw for the Xbox was. Cause have played them games. TNA Impact is the worst wrestling game ever I think.

the engine is WAAAAAAAYYYYYY better than RAW, and the graphics are sweet, but the major flaw is that it isn't deep. There is nothing to make you want to go back and play it a 3rd or 4th time. Yeah it's fun to mess around but it is lacking, for a first time out of the gate game, Midway didnt do a bad job, there is room to improve, I am very hopeful for next year's entry.
Rental at most.

Since PS2 games are cheaper than my 360, is it a PS2 game, or a definite renter?

a PS2 renter, I'd say it's somewhere between raw 1 and 2 on old xbox... raw 2 had all the right ideas and the best graphics and story for a console grappler at the time it was just SO damn SLOW
If you like to be able to moves from behind then TNA is not for you... they just left it out... why i don't know... also everyone in the game walks around as iff tey got a doody diaper and wants a hug

my review
so tna came in from gamefly today, i opened it up, turned it on, played an exibishion match, meh, check out create a character, meh, tried out story mode, didn't realize it was create a character also oh well, played 5 matches i think, turned it off, put it back in the gamefly envelope, hope the send me marvel vs dc or shaun white snowboarding next, or both, that would rule.
the controls are horrid. if the controls are horrid, i dont ****ing waste my time to learn them, **** that got better things to do with my time
went 23-3 on creek in hardcore team deathmatch on cod4, two helicopters, two air strikes, one air strike took out the entire team, i pwn

It was their first game, so I wasn't expecting great, but I wasn't expecting as crappy as it is. I mean, the Wii version is even worse because there is no create a character, which is ****ed up in itself, but from the sounds of it, it's just as bad in all other aspects on the other systems too. If the TNA wrestlers who love games actually had involvement, they wouldn't have let it be that bad. And the thing I hate most is how every game thats about to come out, people always always say, "It's based kind of around No Mercy, so its going to be like that," and then it isn't anything at all like it! Every wrestling game since No Mercy has said that, and none have been better or even close to it. Why won't THQ just hire AKI again and make a new one! Or why won't Midway hire AKI to make the next TNA one. I don't care which company, just give me a new generation of AKI greatness that isn't using super power moves like the rap wrestling and Ultimate Muscle. But back to the point, this game isn't good. On any system.

Because AKI doesn't exist anymore... and the last wrestling/fighting game they made was Def Jam: Fight for NY (which was ****ing awesome)
It's safe to say that they are out of the wrestling game business, as they are now Syn Sophia Inc.

Am I the only sane one here? **** NO MERCY. It was good for its time. Big deal. Today it sucks. It's the Goldeneye logic... then Goldeneye was the BEST console FPS it took until HALO for that to go away and still today some people still say it is the best, even thought it is horribly outdated. No Mercy is fun to play on ROM every now again (esp with the TNA vs ROH retexture). but I much rather play Smackdown vs RAW 09. No Mercy is no longer the best wrestling game and the N64 is dead and buried... let it go.

The "Goldeneye Logic" can refer to other games, see FF VII, Mario 64, Zelda: OoT.

I understand the Goldeneye logic and agree on that. But that is not the same as No Mercy. Yeah the graphics are outdated obviously as well as the roster. But the play mechanics, the controls, and everything else are still perfect to this day. I played a Smackdown once where you could win a ladder match in .3 seconds and that was retarded. And although I realize it's more real life for a person to be attacked while performing a move, I hate when that happens in a video game, because in anything other than one on one, you can't perform a finisher because the third guy always hits you as your delivering the move or locking up or whatever. But that's personal preference. I still on occasion bust out the 64 and me and my friends play a few rounds of No Mercy.
