Alrighty. Now, I would go all overboard like a did with Metal Gear, but this too is quite a good game.
Gameplay: 9/10
The game plays much like the other Spider-Man games or the "Superman returns" game a sandbox type. You don't really NEED to do the missions right away, there's usually a crime or mini-fight along the way. But the game starts you out Tarintino style-playing the first part as "this is later in the game" when you begin.
Pros: You of course play as Spider-Man, you have a choice to play as Black Suit Spidy or Traditional Red and Blue, but you can Switch effortlessly between the two by clicking the left thumbstick. Each suit has different powers, the Black suit is stronger, with more range on the spider-sense, but Red/Blue is faster and can pull off more combos. Since you have the symboite attached to you, you make choices during the game, like choosing to stop a gang war with words (red suit) or fists (black suit), that will have an effect on the outcome. You also have a list of allies, ranging from other heroes to villians, depending your choices. Your ultimate goal is too save the city, but how you choose is up to you.
Cons: Like the superman game, it becomes montonous after a few battles. The game attempts remedy this by switching up the enimies and better combos but still it gets boring. some bosses are cheap. The camera is suspect, making it difficult at times to see exactly where you're going
Controls: 10/10
The game handles extremely well. You use one button to do most of anything, fighting is really two buttons. X [Square] for melee attacks and Y [Triangle] for web strikes. A [X] jumps and B [Circle] shoots webs at people. The right trigger[R2] lets you web swing and right button [R1] blocks attacks. The left trigger [L2] serves no purpose, while the left button [L1] combined with the Y or X button dishes out super-moves. All moves are easily pulled off, but it's really a button mash fest when it's multiple enimies.
Graphics :9/10
The game looks fantastic up close, when things are in the distance they fade away and lose color. The HUD on the screen gives a 3-D look but it becomes confusing when crawlling on walls. The character models look the same for enimies, and civilians look like the same person, with only minor differences, in orther words, they didn't go as far as say Grand Theft Auto in terms of character modeling.
Sound 9.5/10
The only reason this doesn't get a ten is because of the game's refusal to put the "Spider-man, spider-man, does whatever a spider can" song in the game. The games music sounds like the movies style, and the effects sound realistic, when a spidy is hit, he makes the apporpriate noises, when he is thrown and smashes into some trash cans, the sound is appropriate.
Upgrades/Power-Ups 9/10
The game is chock full of power-ups and each suit can be upgraded for max power and effectiveness. So why only an 9? once you reach the new levels, you'll need to collect more, and it takes more and more each time to power-up, and it's not like GTA where you actually have to be looking for them, they are everywhere, sometimes, you'll be swinging so fast, it'll seem like more work to stop and collect it.
Overall: 9/10
The game has a great senario not seen in Marvel yet [at least of what I've read] and really tests some theories on how powerful Spider-Man really is, along with overall coolness of playing as both Red/Blue Spider-Man and Black suit Spider-Man. The only gripes would be the camera, and complacancy with battling the same enimies.
Reviewers Advice: [BUY IT]
Even if you're not a spider-man fan.
