So today I was at Taco Bell and w ewer etalking about wrestling and plans for WM. While talking we started talking about some awesome things and then it turned into a complete, 'Why this guy isn't int he main event' things. And why guys like Punk or Hardy (to a certain point) seem to not get a major push, they seem to no be able to be able to stay around the title picture like Cena/Edge/HHH and now Orton and Y2J.
Welll the first this is that Punk and Hardy were the 2 most pushed wrestlers of '08 aside from Orton and Y2J. Look at where these 2 started 08 and look where they ended. Hardy is WWE champ and Punk pretty much 'shocked' the world when he won the World Title and then shortly after losing that, Tag Team Champion, after losing that the Intercontinental Championship. ANd it makes you think he is not exactly pushed off the mat, he is still being used and he is still doing his thing. This feud will do good for Punk seeing as these 2 have pretty much been given the green light to be the **** out of eachother. Yes Punk's World Title run was transitional, but it was also brought int he highest ratings during that time period, so people were obviously watching for Punk. But even then during this time, he had people like Batista and JBL to definite Main Events in that picture with him to keep people watching.
But why isn't he in the title picture now? HE simply doesnt stack up to what is there now. He is nowhere near as marketable as Cena when it comes to the babyface, and Batista is just as big as Cena. And he obviously cant work heel becuase Y2J has just elevated his game to another level and Orton is pretty much godlike. And you cant forget people like HBK still wonder about. But you can see they are keping him the spotlight, because they still want to keep Punk in our minds he is constantly doing something, feuding with this guy, he is always active. I say, keep Punk working with people liek Kane, Rey and Regal people that will help groom Punk to regain that Main Event spot.
WE gave him a test run and he passed with flying colors, now they just need to put the pieces together.
And the other guy in our little talk was Jeff Hardy. First off he is LUCKY to get this far and this feud with Matt is gonna do wonders for BOTH parties involved. Look at Hardy's 08 he was pretty much hovering around the title and he was never far. The fue with MVP helped push Hardy into that Main Event scene... because that is where Hardy started to push his promo chops, and we saw a less erratic Hardy on the mic and more of a calmer Hardy... he basically took his **** up ad used them as fuel for his character and really built himself as a sympathetic face. There is no question that he is over, but he still needs just a bit more to elevate himself into that true main event status and seeing that this Hardy feud getting some decent airtime so far, i think Hardy might be breaking out this year...
These are the main 2 that I see as instant main event, I see the potential for MVP and Kozlov, more so for Kozlov, but I feel that he is no ready. now if he won the title, I will def. buy it. And MVP,he seems to be th only one lost rught now... they are obviously pushing him as a face and that turn is somewhat working, he got a MAJOR pop at the Rumble and the 'MVP' chants are getting louder. There is no doubt in my mind that he and Benjamin are just gonna wrestle their balls off... but MVP, in the main event picture, I give it another solid year before we see other wise.
