The scene opens up in a park in Seattle, Washington, where the clouds overhead are grey and give more of a gloomy setting to everything around them. We see Seth Evans sitting on one of the benches in the park, clad in all black…boots, jeans, and a hoodie with the hood down. His hands were tucked into the middle pocket of the hoodie as he just stared in front of him, not much of an expression on his face, even while the camera panned around to be facing right in front of him.
“The third time is the charm…this is a line that has followed society for a very long time, and it always goes into the third time being the charm. Then the fourth. Then the fifth. Etcetera, all the way until you finally get the task done. You might ask why I use this phrase as I’m coming into my title match against you this Sunday because of that simple fact -- because I’m not going to really be able to come up if I happen to fail, and say that the fourth time’s the charm -- why would I say it?”
He pauses briefly while staring right into the camera. Slowly leaning forward, he brings his hands together and leaned forward on the bench.
“Because I believe, Rob.
I believe that I am going to be able to walk out of the ring this Sunday as the new X-Division Champion for New Championship Wrestling. I believe that I am going to have your number this week! I believe that I will earn the right to go back home…back to Toronto, Ontario.
What makes me so sure?
I can tell you what makes me so sure that I am going to walk out of that ring as the new X-Division Champion. We can rewind the tapes, and I know…I know that no matter how many times I rewind the tape, and I look at what you did, it isn’t going to change the result -- you still walked out as the winner, and I still walked out as the loser. You still walked out with the X-Division Championship, and I walked out with nothing. However, I’m still going to be rewinding those tapes because everybody knows, as much as I do, that if it had been a legit match, I would have been the one walking out as the winner, and the new X-Division Champion!”
The voice of Seth Evans rose with excitement, as he just was thinking of the day that was coming…Mind Games…it may be a bit late to when he had originally intended to walk out with the X-Division Championship, but better late than never.
“The reason is simple, Rob…you can’t beat me. You can get the best of me, sure, but you can’t beat me! You know it…I know it…Chris knows it…these fans know it. All of us know that you can’t beat me and you proved that at Road To The Gold when you couldn’t beat me without pulling the tights.
What do I do in return to you not being able to beat me without doing those?
I hand them to you. I give you the chance to do any of your low blows, pulling the tights, using the weapons, anything and everything that you want to use -- you can. Here’s the catch, though…since I’m an avid follower of the rules…the rules are that there are no rules. What do I have to follow? That’s right, Rob, I agreed to let you play your own game with this match and I encourage you to take every little detail to the rules and take as much of an advantage as you can out of it. I’ll be doing the same.
The last time that we did get into the ring was at Road To The Gold, and we played by my rules. Or we were supposed to, at least, but you found a way around it and managed to pick up the victory. I figured that it would only be fair for us to take a shot at these rules. Falls Count Anywhere. No Disqualification.
Believe me when I tell you that I am going to drag you around the entire arena, Rob…I am going to drag you through the crowd, all around backstage, to the parking lot, even to the Space Needle…you know, we don’t even have to stop in Seattle. I can drag you all the way to Toronto so everybody can see me force you out for the three count…or force you to tap out. I don’t care what it is that I have to do to walk out with that win, because there are no rules about it. I will knock you out. I will pin you. I will make you tap out.
There will be no excuses. There is no escape.
That’s another reason why I’m so very fond of the match that we are going to…usually, the champions will always have the luxury to get themselves disqualified if things are really looking bad for them. They have the luxury of getting themselves counted out if things are looking bad. I’ve seen what you’re willing to do to keep that belt around your waist, so I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if you had attempted to do anything of the sort…you can say that I have given you your own game, your own rules, you can say anything you want; but I took away that luxury. There. Is. No. Escape.”
Seth spoke the words very slowly as he glared directly into the camera.
“There is something else that I do need to talk about, though…what happened to Jenny. What happened as some sort of freak accident that you are insisting on putting all that blame on me -- for the longest time throughout my entire life, I was always telling people to…put the blame on me. Put the blame on someone that had the strength to carry it. I would have no problem carrying that blame for the people that I care about, Rob, but I think that it is a simple fact; I don’t give a damn for you. This blame is not something that can be put on my shoulders because it’s something that is also your fault. We pushed for the fight to happen because both of them were going at it when we couldn’t get along after our match against Gib and Adam Knite…this is something that we can’t put on them, and we should take for ourselves.
You wanted her to step into that ring because you were so confident…you were as confident as I was when I stepped into the ring with Jimmy Zane and Gabriel Karras many months ago, thinking -- knowing -- that I would walk out as the number one contender for that belt that you’re carrying. You thought that she was going to be able to beat Camilla. She wasn’t able to. Just as I wasn’t able to defeat Jimmy Zane.
I do apologize for what happened to Jenny. Just as I am sure that you are also sorry, Rob…the excuse, you put the blame on me for what happened to Jenny. I expect you to man up. Take the blame. Stop making excuses…it’s something that you’re going to have to get used to because Sunday night I will be walking out as the new X-Division Champion. The same thing that you tell me: No…excuses.”
Scene fades.
