ROUGHLY EIGHT MONTHS AGO
Zelda: Would you cut out the pacing already?
Kelly: Yeah Adam…. Chill for a minute.
Adam: I can’t help it.
{Our flashback opens this time to he inside of a small locker room where Adam is pacing the center of the floor with Kelly Fox his future wife standing beside him. Zelda, in wrestling attire, sits in a locker taking deep breaths trying to calm the butterflies that are currently flying around in her stomach.}
Adam: Are you sure you want to do this?
Zelda: Yes. Are you going to act like this every time I get a job?
Adam: You don’t have to do this you know.
Zelda: If I don’t wrestle, I don’t get paid.
Adam: So what, it isn’t like you don’t live off me anyway. I’m fine with that.
Zelda: That’s exactly my point, I don’t want to depend on my big brother anymore. I want to make it on my own and I want to do it by doing something I love. You didn’t see me pacing your locker room and questioning you when you first started.
Adam: You were ten! The only thing you thought about was that I was doing a dinosaur gimmick.
Zelda: Either way, my point remains. I’ve been training for this, I’ve been working with you to this point, and I finally get my first match.
{Adam takes his index finger and thumb and places them on his nose, right between his eyes. He begins to softly rub that era as he closes eyes. Kelly reaches up and massages his shoulders gently. Adam stops and looks up again at his sister.}
Adam: I’m just worried about you.
Zelda: Shouldn’t you be more concerned about your “Revolution” and AJ Phoenix?
Adam: I’m not thinking about that at all right now.
Zelda: What, you think I’m not good enough? Aren’t you the great NCW World Champion? Did you not teach me everything you know?
Adam: No, I…. yes…. It’s not you I’m worried about in that way. It’s this wrestling in some second rate indy fed that has its shows inside a bar.
Zelda: I’m not going to get hurt, besides, you know good and well, you’d be acting this way if I were to sign with NCW right now.
Adam: Thank God NCW doesn’t have a women’s division.
{Zelda stands up and approaches her brother, she looks up and him as she stabs her index finger right into the middle of his chest.}
Zelda: Look, you’re my big brother and you want to protect me, I get that. You saw Kelly injure her back after you had asked her not to step into the ring, I get that too. However, this is what I want to do with my life and you helped me get to this point. Do you want to stand around back here biting your nails and being a worry wart or do you want to cheer me on while I go out there and win my first match?
{Adam turns around and looks at Kelly who just shrugs. He turns and glances down at his sister who is looking up at him, eyebrows raised ready for an answer. Adam lets out a long sigh.}
Adam: Fine… you got a point…..
{Zelda smiles ear to ear as she removes her finger from Adam’s chest.}
Zelda: Now that that is taken care of….
Adam: Wait. I did get you a little something to commemorate this night.
{Zelda looks confused at first as Kelly reaches into Adam’s bag and pulls out a small box wrapped in brown paper. Adam hands it to Zelda, who smiles and without saying a word rips the paper off in flash before opening the top. Zelda looks in and her eyes go wide with surprise. Zelda reaches in and pulls out a small golden object in the shape of a “Triforce”.}
Adam: It’s a belt buckle, It’s not much, but I thought it’d add a little spice to your matches, and it fit you…… you geek.
Zelda: It’s perfect!
{Zelda jumps up and gives Adam a big hug as Kelly smiles behind them. Zelda lets got and jumps in excitement for a few brief seconds before composing herself and putting on a semi-serious face.}
Zelda: This is the greatest day of my life, you know that!?
Adam: Well Zel, I’d wish you luck but I figure you don’t need it. I’m going to go get something to drink, maybe take a smoke break to calm down some….
Kelly: You don’t smoke.
Adam: I might have to take up the hobby….
{Adam opens the door and heads out. Kelly and Zelda stand there uncomfortably quit as Zelda adds her present to her ring attire. Kelly swings her arms back and forth silently humming until she yawns and looks at the door and takes a step towards it.}
Kelly: I guess I better go see if he needs any help……
{Just as Kelly steps however, Zelda puts out her arm and stops a confused Kelly in her tracks.}
Zelda: Hold up a second skank.
Kelly: Hey! Who do you…..
Zelda: Shut up.
Kelly: Excuse me?!
Zelda: You heard me. I just want to get something clear here. If this whole getting back with him and joining his little group is just some little ploy by you because you want power and a cabana boy to do your bidding, then stop it now.
Kelly: What are you talking about little girl?
Zelda: Look, any idiot can see Adam loves you, that you have him wrapped around your finger, and I’ve seen you use too many people, including him and I don’t want to see him fall for your black widow tricks again.
Kelly: Not that I have to explain myself to some high school drop out, but you have nothing to worry about…. I wouldn’t have told him “yes” if I didn’t love him.
Zelda: Good, just making sure we were clear here…..
Kelly: May I leave now?
{Kelly and Zel stare at each other with narrow eyes for a few moments before Zelda calmly reaches behind her and opens up the door. The two women continue their stare off as Kelly walks out the door and the scene fades to black.}

The Golden Cartridge, everybody remembers the joy of having that special little game pack stored on their shelves. The one that all the other kids who hadn’t gotten their game soon enough looked at in awe. It was special, it was different, it was unique. Those who didn’t have it, wanted it. Those who did have it, cherished it as if that gold colored foil was actually 24 karats. This is me.
I’m not the typical woman wrestler here, I’m not the violent type, I’m not deranged in any way, unless you count video game addiction as “deranged” but come on, who would count that? It seems either the women here are blood thirsty, crazy, or just plain b****y. Some occasions all three rolled up into one neat little ball of Kefka crazyness levels. Be it a woman obsessed with violence such as Danielson, or a woman obsessed with herself, everybody seems to be off their boat loco around here. Then there is me, the new gold standard of what women wrestling in NCW is going to be. The special edition cartridge if you will.
Soon everybody will be looking at my shimmering golden foil and wishing they were as well trained as I in this sport. It’s good that these people are lemmings, following the hand, doing what it tells them, because it just makes it easier for me to stand out, for me to show the world what women’s wrestling is all about. I can win matches without resorting to violence, I can get pinfalls without busting a chair over some chicks head and I can make people submit without sticking a knife in their chests.
Adam taught me everything he knows, if this were a movie he’d be Mr. Miyagi and I’d be his Ralph Macchio. A disturbing vision, yes I know, but it is true. That is why I’m confident, because I had great training and am sure of my talents. People may look at me, in fact a lot have, and think I’m doing some kind of pea**** dance, showing off my golden exterior, believing me to be arrogant. That can’t be further from the truth, confidence isn’t equal to arrogance.
Unlike the awesome golden cartridge however, I will not be around for a limited time only, not at all. See I want to be the star, I don’t want to be the shiny one time offer, oh no. I’ve said it since I first arrived, what I want to do is make my name synonymous with the Women’s division. I want to take this new division to the top to make people tune it to see it on a weekly basis. I maybe special compared to all the other women’s drab greyness, I want to stand out for a long time to come in this company.
What I’m seeing right now, is that I have a tough road ahead of me, obviously. But that’s the way it’s gotta be, in any good video game the hero has to traverse harsh terrains and face incredible enemies with impressive powers before they can get the object of great importance. Link has to defeat dungeons and collect trinkets before he’s allowed to even touch the master sword, much like it is here. Winning this match will be great, but in essence just gives me a toad telling me my title is in another castle. I’ll keep battling my way to the top, I’ll keep fighting my way through the hordes of challengers, how I’ll do It is by sticking to what I know, and what I do best. Screw this amazon act, screw this Barbie doll display, what I’m offering is the fresh perspective, the only perspective that makes sense, I’m going to earn my way to the top, one obscure video game reference at a time.
Yeah, I may be cute, I may be small, I may be kind of a geek. I don't care, see because I know that I'm something, everybody can see it. I'm sitting there on the shelf, the light is shinning off me so bright you can barely see, and this Saturday like it or not, for you two it's........
Game Over.
