[Finally. All the hard work. All the blood, sweat and tears. All the miles spent sleepy driving from town to town to perform in front of crowd after crowd. All the bandages and pain. All the hospital trips, surgeries, and recoveries. All of it has finally paid off in this ultimate opportunity in nCw. At Metamorphosis, in just six days, Jimmy Zane will face off with a man he has known virtually his entire career. A man who has tried to kill him twice, and a man who had epic matches with his father back in the day. That man is the Millennium Icon: Gib. The old man still has it, there is no doubting that. But the kid has been on a roll as of late. He has beaten the Icon, the Champ, and a host of others since finishing in the top four at last month's Riot Match. This match means everything to Jimmy Zane and there is nothing and nobody he is going to let stand in his way, let alone Gib. This match is going to be an epic all out war for the ages. This is going to be a match of the year nominee. The storylines surrounding this epic showdown are endless. Two of the greatest of all time slugging it out for one more shot at the title. As Terrell Owens would say.... GETCHA POPCORN READY!]
(The scene fades in as the sun passed mid sky. The time is nearly 1pm and Jimmy Zane is standing outside in the cold. Lower 40's today with a brisk wind. It's a good thing he wore his trusty pea coat and scarf. His eyes hidden by the dark sunglasses and his head covered in a black toboggan. He looks around the streets of his beloved hometown. The city is aglow and the people are ecstatic, for just last night, in the Louisiana Superdome, the New Orleans Saints defeated Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings to earn a trip to their very first Super Bowl. He smiles as he sees the Crescent City as vibrant as ever. Alive with hope and wonder. Resurrected from the ashes of disaster, revived from the brink of devastation.
Hurricane Katrina nearly wiped out the entire city in one fail swoop. But "Nawlins" wasn't about to go quietly into that good night. She would not go down, without a fight. No, sir. The Big Easy is here to stay, and nothing personifies this city, or it's people, like the New Orleans Saints. Displaced by Katrina, they struggled to get on their feet. They struggled to stay afloat. They struggled, to live. But with hard work, dedication, preparation, and a never give up attitude, the Saints have overcome, and the city has followed suit!
Jimmy smiles as he thinks about the comparisons of that epic showdown last night, and the one he faces this week. Brett Favre, the man, the myth, the legend, has done it all in his illustrious career. Championships, records, and will be a first ballot hall of famer. Much like the Millennium Icon. Gib has held multiple titles. He is known as one of the most ferocious men in the business. He is a legend in his own time, and just his name beside someone else's on the card backstage will make people quit the company. He is the sentimental favorite everywhere he goes. He has incredible will, and doesn't lay down easy for anyone.
Jimmy is much like the captain and leader of the New Orleans Saints, Drew Brees. Young, brash, bold, and unafraid to do whatever it takes to win. Whether it means doing things he doesn't necessarily like or not, whatever it taks to win! As a fan, Drew Brees knows what a Vikings win, and another trip to the Super Bowl for Brett Favre would have meant to the NFL. But it wasn't about Brett Favre. It was about him, and his team. It was about winning. And just like Brees, Jimmy Zane will do whatever it takes against Gib. Yes, Gib in the World Title match against whoever the champion is would be great. Yes, it would be a ratings driver because the old man is getting one more shot at a World Championship. But Zane, the young, ambitious superstar, will do whatever it takes to rise above the odds to take his place among the immortal. If it means ripping the heart out of the Millennium Icon, then so be it.
Finally, after what seems like hours, but in reality was only about ten minutes, a tour bus pulls up. There on the side of the bus is the Fleur De Lis, but not just any Fluer De Lis. This one is in the form of a stamp.
He smiles as he walks around and boards the bus. He takes a seat near the back of the bus next to a window. Sitting there, looking out the window as the places he grew up around. Finally, once everyone has boarded, the bus is on its way. It pulls through the city and then takes a few unexpected turns. Jimmy seems a bit confused as the bus is heading closer to the ocean as opposed to farther away. He didn't recall any cemeteries this close to the Gulf of Mexico. He sits up and waits for the bus to come to a stop. As it does, he looks up, and there is a cemetery at the top of a large hill. He gets out with the rest of the tourists and follows everyone up to the top of the hill. He walks with the tour, looking around for anything that may lead him to his next clue.
The tour is boring and mundane, but the guides do their best to freak out the tourists. Jimmy has all but given up when the tour takes a mysterious turn. They stop at a large tree with weathered and rotted ropes hanging from the branches. The tour guide begins to give a long, descriptive story about how the ropes were used to hang three women considered to be witches back in the early 1800's. It was said that they left the three women hanging from the tree until their bodies decomposed and fell to the ground. The tree was large and it is said to have lost its leaves that year, and never grew another leaf. The tour moves on, but Jimmy walks to the tree, standing there, thinking of the riddle in his head....[/color]
Jimmy turns South and looks out from the top of the hill. He scans the skyline but is unable to find anything that may lead him to the next clue. He continues to look, and suddenly, he sees it.
A large sign across town is barely visible, but there it is. Two hands holding an eye. The eye moves when the wind blows. He smiles to himself and starts walking down the hill. He gets out to the street and hails a cab. He gets in the cab and tells the driver to drive. As he rides along in the cab, he looks into the camera.)
Well the stage is set, Gib. You and me one more time, but this time, there is a shot at the nCw World Title on the line. We both have worked long and hard for this, Gib. Both of us are deserving, but only one of us can move on to face the World Champion next month. Only one of use can have this shot. That one person, will be me. Now I know you have paid your dues, brother. But I have two. For two long years I have toiled in the midcard here in nCw. Working my way up match by match. Working my way through this roster slow and easy. It wasn't always easy goings, and I had a few setbacks....
BUT HERE I AM!
I know there are people out there who said I could never, and would never reach the pinnacle of success in New Championship Wrestling. I know there are people out there who would just as soon see me dead as to see me have that World Championship around my waste. And to them, I say that's fine with me. Keep counting me out. Keep underestimating me. I love it. I thrive on it. It makes me work harder, longer, and more feverish than anyone in this business, and that is how I got to the level of success I have achieved thus far. There is a name, they other nCw Superstars have for you, Gib. I am not sure what to make of it, but I can definitely understand where the name came from...
THE GATEKEEPER!
For almost a year, Gib, you have been the man to stand between the World Champion and the number one contender every month. Softening the challenger up. Making sure that the World Champion had an easy time of it when their title defense came along. You took pride in it, but it just wasn't enough, was it? You wanted more. You wanted to hold that championship....
ALWAYS THE BRIDESMAID, NEVER THE BRIDE!
You, Gib, are a hell of a competitor. I know it, and my father knew it. You and my father went full tilt many times, but in the end, Gib, it was always my father who came out on top. It was always my father, putting you down for the 1...2...3! I remember, as a teenager, watching an incredible pay per view match between you two, in which it took a Final Judgement, my father's finisher, from the top rope, through a table, to finish you off. It was the damndest thing I ever saw, Gib. I couldn't believe that after nearly fifty five minutes, he still had it in him. And I couldn't believe that it took something so devastating, and so vile to put you down for the count. But that was when you were in your prime....
THAT WAS THEN...THIS IS NOW!
Now, is the Age of Zane. No matter how much nCw management wants to see me fail, you can bet your ass that Angel and/or Falcon want to see me fail as well. You see, Gib, neither of them wants to face me next month. Neither of them wants to step into the ring with the most charismatic superstar this business has seen in a generation. Just like you don't want me to come into Metamorphosis and put you down like the dog you are. I am not coming into this match to win, to prove I am better than you, oh no, we did that dance already. I am coming into this match to prove...
I AM THE BEST IN THE BUSINESS TODAY!
The name Jimmy Zane will be synonymous with greatness, with championships, with....
PERFECTION!
But I know you, Gib. I know that you will bring everything you have left in the tank and then some. I am not like all these other jackasses around here who want to call you old, and over the hill, and any other age reference they can think of. I know the true animal that you are. The true animal the mask let you be. I know that you loved being Harold more than anything on this planet because the anonymity let you become who you were truly born to be....
A RAGING LUNATIC HELL BENT ON DESTROYING MEN ONE BY ONE!
But, I survived the monster, Gib. Here I am, standing in your path, asking you......NO!
BEGGING YOU!
To bring everything you have at me this week. Because I want to know without a shadow of a doubt that I beat Gib at his very best, to get my shot at the World Title. I want to know that when the dust settles and the smoke has cleared, that Jimmy Zane is standing tall against the very best nCw has to offer. They call you the gatekeeper...
(Jimmy pauses for a moment, looking away from the camera. He then looks into the camera with a serious look.)
WELL GATEKEEPER......MEET THE KEYMASTER!
(Jimmy smiles as he looks up at the building on the right.)
Yeah, driver, this is it. Let me out here.
(The car comes to a stop and Jimmy pays the cab driver. He gets out and looks at a dilapitated building standing in front of him. Nearly falling down, scorch burns are evidence of a fire once upon a time. He looks up at the sign...
Jimmy stands there a moment. Trying to make sense of it all. He walks towards the old building as the scene fades to black.)
