The Staples Center was jam packed with cars in its parking lots. Everyman and his brother were geared up for the most stacked, the most exciting, the most buzzed about pay per view in a long time. Metamorphosis Two Thousand Ten. How could you not be excited with what’s in store? Death Cage IV. The Icon verse The Face of the Franchise. The crowning of a new women’s champion and seven other matches that was sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. Everybody was pumped for the show to begin. Everyone that is…..except Leonard Fox!
“Where in the hell is he?”
The owner of nCw paced back in forth in the parking lot awaiting the arrival of somebody. He kept checking his phone for the time and to see if he had any missed calls. He’d hit a button and his cell would automatically dial a number. He presses it to his ear and all he’d get was nothing but rings. Until he got that annoying message system that he mocked condescendingly.
“The person you are trying to reach can not be located….please try again later…….bah!”
He shoves his cell into his pocket annoyed by the whole scenario. He was just about to walk in out of the cold weather when suddenly he hears something in the distance. An old beat up truck, hauling what appears to be….
“….a trailer full of donkeys?”
Exactly. The trailer shook and creaked with every bump and the trucks exhaust roared like a lion. It came screeching to a halt a few feet in front of him and he walks around to the side to find out what was going on.
“What is the meaning of this? Who ordered donkeys? It better not have been Rob Diamond….he still owes me for the last time.”
Leonard tries to speak with the driver but suddenly Jimmy Turner half jump, half falls out of the back of the trailer, trying desperately to get his pants back on.
“Jimmy Turner. NCW’s Sanitation Specialist reporting for duty sir!”
Turner salutes his boss Leonard who looks a little disappointed that this whole mess only managed to produce Jimmy Turner.
“Uh….yeah….at ease or whatever. Look some kids ate too much cotton candy at the food cart and puked everywhere. I need you to clean it up.”
Jimmy nods his head and his double chins follow suit.
“Yes sir! Right away sir! It’s always a pleasure working for you sir!”
Jimmy extends his nasty, filthy hand out for Leonard to shake it. He almost makes the mistake but a voice stops him from doing so.
“I wouldn’t shake that hand if I were you!”
Steve Awesome climbs from the back of the truck. He looked a little dirty but felt dirtier. Oh the things he saw in that trailer.
“You really don’t want to know where it’s been.”
Fox stares at Jimmy’s hand with a disgusted look as Jimmy just shrugs and walks off to clean up puke. He turns and looks at Steve as a sigh of relief overcomes him. Steve must have been who he was waiting for.
“You’re right. I never want to know where Jimmy’s hand has been. But you on the other hand…..would you mind enlightening me as to where the other half of my second main event has been?”
Awesome breathes in through his teeth. He thought about telling him the whole story…but decided that adventure was better left unsaid.
“Well Leo….if I had a story that didn’t make me seem like a dirty loser….I’d be more than happy to tell you. But since I don’t…let’s just leave at….I’m here now.”
Awesome smiles and shrugs his shoulders, silently praying that he wouldn’t dig deeper. Leo just shakes his head and starts leading Steve into the arena.
“Fine…that’s all that really matters anyway. I was trying to call you though, what happened to your cell phone?”
“A donkey ate it.”
Leonard stops in his tracks to look at Steve.
“Why?”
Steve just shrugs his shoulders again.
“I don’t know…I guess because I didn’t think it was cute.”
Awesome continues to walk inside the arena, leaving Leonard behind to try and figure that one out for himself.

“Lance Ryan…..”
Awesome sits somewhere in the building deep in thought. The room is dark and the only light is that which creeps in through the cracked open door.
“You know I thought I knew what I was getting myself into when I super kicked you on that fateful night. I thought I was going to finally answer a question that has burning inside of me for a few years now. I thought that at Metamorphosis the world was finally going to get an answer as to who…is better. Lance Ryan, or Steve Awesome.”
He looks down.
“I thought I knew…..but now that the day is finally here. Now that the match of matches is only a couple hours away….now I’m not so sure. Heh….it always seems to happen this way doesn’t it? You get so excited for something, you get yourself pumped up, you get all anxious for the big day but then…like a kid on Christmas Eve you just can’t fall asleep to save your life. My mind…once filled with everything that I thought were answers are now turning back into questions. I mean…for the love of God people….I’m facing Lance Ryan! The two time world champion, the first ever hall of famer…the guy who pretty much started it all….in less than a few hours I’m scheduled to go one….on one….”
He looks up and faces the camera again.
“….with the Icon.”
He pauses for a second to let the reality really close in.
“Did you feel it too? The goose bumps? The electricity? This must be how it felt the day before Obama got voted into office. That overwhelming feeling that something epic was right around the corner. The moment when the hair on the back of your neck stands on end and you know that whatever happens….you know it’s going to be history. And I think about it now, after a month of talking the talk, it all comes down to walking the walk and I wonder if I really truly have what it takes to beat him. Yeah, I may be the Face of the Franchise, I may be the Innovator of Awesomeness, I may be everything anybody has ever said I was but is that enough to actually beat Lance Ryan when the whole world is watching?”
Steve just simply shrugs his shoulders.
“I don’t know. I’m not going to know until Meta comes and it’s time for me to go out there and face him man to man. Lance though…..he believes he has my number. He believes that as good as I am…he is going to be able to edge this one out and hell, with the way that guy talks I’d be willing to say I believe him just to get him to shut up. Lance Ryan says that my time at the top is over. You know I’ve herd that one before and it never made a lick of difference but sitting here tonight, mentally preparing for something that I can never be fully prepared for….I wouldn’t put it past the man to do what he said he was going to do and drop me on my head tonight and beat me in that ring. After that, Lance said he wants the gold. He wants the nCw world heavyweight championship. And that’s great, it’s an honorable prize and if your not here to become the world champion then you need to rethink your whole game plan because that title is the grand prize. That title means everything to everyone and it’s a straight up HONOR to be able to call yourself nCw Champion.”
“But what Lance wants and what I want are two different things.”
“See what Lance wants is the title. Lance wants to become a three time world champion. But that’s just another notch in the old belt of The Icon. All he’s doing is ultimately proving what I said earlier. His career is defined by the belt. If he’s not the champion then he isn’t anything. But what I want out of this match is something so much more. I don’t want a title shot. I don’t want to be “put over” by Lance or whatever. See what I want…..is to be known as the greatest in-ring performer nCw and the world has ever seen. Call it passion, call it drive, call it ego, call it whatever you want, I don’t care. But if your talking about the greatest wrestlers of all time and my name isn’t the first one out your lips then damn it!…..”
He pounds the wall near by.
“…I’m not doing my job right. My name is already synonymous with heart and passion and nCw but in order for me to be known as the best ever…..I guess that means I have to beat you Lance. I have to beat you Lance if I ever want to achieve my goal and let me tell you something Lance….”
He stares machete sized holes through camera, into the chest of The Icon.
“I want that honor more than you could ever imagine Lance.”
The usual jovial, all smiles, Steve Awesome is gone. Instead we see him in a rare form….serious. His eyes burn with a tenacity that you’ve never seen from him. He swallows hard, trying to keep the emotion down.
“And tonight in front of a sold out L.A crowd….I finally get my opportunity. After a year of waiting….after a year of fighting off challenge after challenge after challenge after damn challenge I’m face with the ultimate challenge. Steve Awesome verse Lance Ryan. The Icon verse The Face of the Franchise and now I have to ask myself….and I’m ready to step up to the challenge?”
Awesome stands up from his seat and walks closer to the camera.
“Your damn right I’m ready. I’m ready to fight! I’m ready to sweat! I’m ready to bleed! I’m ready to go to a place that I’ve never been before Lance. I’m ready to dig deep. Deeper than I’ve ever dug before, I’m talking all the way down to the souls of my DC’s just to find the place I need to go in order to be the best. Staples Center….you better be ready because you are about witness an epic clash of the titans. Your about to witness two men leave it all inside that ring, your about to witness…without a shadow of a doubt…..EVERYTHING THAT NCW IS MADE OF!”
He shouts it into the camera his face shaking with intensity like we’ve never seen before.
“So am I ready? I’m more ready then you can possibly believe. Do I need to win this? I started this whole thing so Yes. I promise to do everything in my power to walk out of Meta as the winner. As the better man. Will I win?”
Another simple shrug.
“I don’t know. But I guess that’s what all the excitement is about.”
He couldn’t help but smile, the excitement was too much for him to handle. Everyone would be watching this epic confrontation. The sold out crowd, the millions at home, the boys in the back. It was crunch time. The pressure was on.
And that’s just the way he liked it.

We cut back to Leonard Fox and Steve Awesome walking down a hallway in the back, already in mid conversation.
“….so your saying she just broke up with you right there on the spot?”
Awesome nods his head reluctantly.
“Yup. Kicked me out of my own house.”
Leonard winces at the thought.
“Harsh.”
Steve nods his head in agreement.
“Yeah, your telling me. I’ve tried calling her but she wont answer my calls. I don’t know boss man, there’s just no talking to her.”
“I know I’ve been there. So what are you going to do?”
Awesome sighs and shrugs his shoulders. The only thing prominent in his mind was facing Lance later tonight…he hadn’t even taken a second to think about it yet.
“I’m not sure. Hopefully just ride it out until she calms down. Probably just find a park bench to sleep on or something.”
Awesome lowers his head and stuffs his hands in his pocket as he walks. As they walk further they pass Jimmy Turner who is knee deep in vomit. Jimmy stops what he’s doing to listen in on the conversation.
“Nonsense. You can sleep at my house until all this blows over.”
Awesome looks up at Leonard with a face full of surprise.
“Really? You mean that?”
Leonard nods his head and smiles.
“Of course. I’m not some penny pinching, multi millionaire butt hole like certain owners of certain companies are. If my wrestlers are in a bad way, I’d like to try and help them. It’s the least I could do for all the hard work you’ve dedicated to nCw.”
Jimmy’s jaw drops as he hears the what Leonard is saying. Steve is a bit taken aback by the kindness of Leonard’s heart.
“Wow…..thanks Leo. That would be great. I’ll only be there for a few days….just need a chance to get Mandi to lighten up.”
Leonard waves him off.
“Stay as long as you need too Steve. We’ll work on the details later, right now…you have to worry about facing Lance.”
Awesome and Leonard walk off down the hall leaving Jimmy alone and surprised.
“I wish I could stay and Leonard’s house.”
Suddenly Jimmy’s phone rings, he reaches inside of his pants, pulls out his phone and answers it.
“Hello? Dang it babe, I told you not to bother me while I’m at work!”
“HEE-HAW!”
“Don’t you take that tone with me!”
Fade on the most ridiculous argument ever.
“Where in the hell is he?”
