“Sensational” Jason Blair: Thanks again, Roger. I really appreciate you staying open an extra hour for training.
Jason stands next to an older man, early to mid 60's. Behind them is a worn-out dusty wrestling ring; the center of a dimly lit gym.
Roger: No problem, kid. Although I'm not convinced an hour will do much of anything for him. You've got your work cut out for ya.
Pan over to “Mediocre” Mike Machado, standing 3-5 feet away from both of them. He's wearing a bright green wrestling singlet, that is obviously 1-2 sizes too small for him. In one hand, he holds a banana, in the other, a sticky of celery.
”Mediocre” Mike Machado: Which do you think would look more natural; a banana, or a stick of celery?
”Sensational” Jason Blair: Um, what?
”Mediocre” Mike Machado: You know, to.. enhance... certain... problem areas.. of my costume.
Roger Did he just say “costume?”
”Sensational” Jason Blair: Put down the vegetables and get into the ring, Mike.
”Mediocre” Mike Machado: I'm pretty sure the banana is a fruit, Jason. ..Just sayin'.
”Sensational” Jason Blair: Let's go. We're out of time to waste. The average wrestler learns this in 20 minutes.
”Mediocre” Mike Machado: So for me.. five? Maybe ten?
”Sensational” Jason Blair: Yeah, I think five hours would suffice...
”Mediocre” Mike Machado: WHAT!?
”Sensational” Jason Blair: But that would be if we were going for a basic understanding of the maneuver. You need to master it. You need to be able to strike at any moment; and corral the most explosive and powerful wrestlers in the world.
”Mediocre” Mike Machado: What are we talking about, here? Figure-4? Boston Crab? Some sort of Inverted STF with a Hawaiian twist?
”Sensational” Jason Blair: Nope. Small package.
”Mediocre” Mike Machado: (embarrassed) Well.. I mean.. that's what the banana is for. But, would you really say small? I'd say ..”average package..”
Machado motions to his junk and scratches his head nervously.
”Sensational” Jason Blair: Ring. Now.
Roger: You know what? Here's a spare key; Just lock up when you're done. I think this might be a long night.
”Mediocre” Mike Machado: [/b] Master Chief won't save you.
Mike Machado leans into the picture. Sweat drips from his face; which is flushed red. He looks exhausted; But also, content.
”Mediocre” Mike Machado: You know what achievement I just earned? Learn the move I'm going to pin your ass with. While one move may not seem like much to you now; I'm certain on Friday you will agree with me: one is enough. As you lay face up on the canvas, wondering: “Why?” “How could this happen?” Just remember this:
The Might of Mediocrity is when a whole lot of heart makes up for very little talent.[/u]
”Mediocre” Mike Machado: When it comes to New Championship Wrestling, when it comes to this match, and any other match in this place, effort is what you will get from me. You will come to expect it, you will quickly learn that underestimating someone for their lack of experience and physical prowess is a costly mistake. There is something to be said for having a dream. Something to be said for a yearning to be more than “mediocre”. That something is this:
"Mediocre" Mike Machado: Jack Wilde, Daniel Miles, Friday you will witness along with the rest of the world: Even a mediocre talent can do amazing things with 100% effort.
”Sensational” Jason Blair: (behind camera) Good. Let's pack it in, the sun is coming up.
