The scene opens with Will Washington standing all alone in a seemingly abandoned room…….
“It seems Gib doesn’t appreciate me saving his and his son’s *sses. Whatever happened to gratitude? I save the Famularos from yet another beat down from Angel, and what is the thanks I get? False accusations about not being genuine. I saved you and your silly little son and you decide to ridicule me for it? I don’t know where you’re from Gibby, but where I’m from, when somebody protects you, you think them. If it wasn’t for me, you wouldn’t even be making it to this match. So why the hostility? Because I pointed at the belt afterwards? Sounds like an excuse to me. You say I stopped you from checking on your son, but that’s a lie isn’t it? Your son was hanging there above the ring ready for his father’s care, but instead you decided to get in my face. My action of signaling for the belt that I long for is enough to make you forget that your son has just been attacked yet again by your worst enemy? Not likely. I think there was different motivation behind what you did Gib. I think you were upset. Not that I was supposedly hindering your process in checking on your son, but that I did a better job protecting him than you have.”
“Think about it….Angel has been playing head games with you for months. He’s corrupted Xander and destroyed him all in a matter of months. Where were you during all this? You stood by hopelessly as the one person you have left in this world turned against you. He finally came back to you and helped you w in that title you so covet, and what happened next? Under your care he was tortured by that face-painted jack*ss. That happened over the course of months, yet it only took me one day to finish it. That’s a difference between you and I Gib…The minute, THE EXACT MINUTE someone starts messing with my little sister, they’d be dead. Nobody screws around with the people I love and lives through it, as simple as that. If anybody lays one unwanted finger on Tori, I’d beat them within an inch of their life, and as they laid there begging for mercy, I wouldn’t show any. And that’s why you’re so upset with me now…because I did a better job protecting your child than you have ever done. I was there for the kid when you weren’t. Then again, you’ve never been there for him, so why should this be any different?”
“Where were you all the years when Xander needed you throughout his childhood? You were off wrestling around the world, entertaining people like young Will Washington. You were everything a kid could want in a role model. Any kid other than your own flesh and blood that is. When other kids were talking about playing catch with their fathers or going fishing with their pop, what could Xander say? ‘I haven’t seen my daddy in months.’ And sure the other children loved it and envied him for having a famous father, but only he knew how bad it actually was. Week after week he sat at home wondering when his dad was going to come home to see him and if he was ever going to see you in person ever again. Did you even think about him when you were out there on the road? I’ve heard the stories of what it was like in the wrestling industry during the eighties….With all the drugs, sex, and alcohol, I honestly doubt you could even remember his name most of the time. As you bounced around from city to city, he was stuck at home worrying. Now in your old age you decide that you want to be a bigger part of his life. You see how it would be easy for him to turn on you and join up with Angel? Sure he finally came back around and rejoined his actual father, but for a period of time he had the father figure he had always dreamed of. Angel might be a sociopath, but let’s face it…he’s a better dad than you.”
“Even in the last few months you’ve made it completely obvious that you’ve never been fit to be a parent. We’ve seen you running around naked, drunk out of your mind, and just generally embarrassing things. During your entire run as a tag team with Adam Knite, you made yourself look like a pathetic alcoholic with nothing left to give the world. You were stumbling around looking like a pathetic shell of your former self. Where was the man I used to look up to? Where was the man that Xander could look up to? Since then you’ve made great strides in re-establishing yourself, even going all the way in winning that World Title, and making you son a bigger part of your life. It seems like all is well for you two right now, but how much longer can that lasts? When Xander wants to start a family, is he going to be like you and not be there for his kids? He needed a role model and they’re going to need one too. Will they have a grandfather to be there for them? Who knows? You might not even make it past this week.”
“So this is your chance Gib. The big opportunity that you’ve never seized before. You drop the belt this Sunday, and you can call it quits. You’ve done everything there is to be done in this business. There are no more mountains for you to climb. You can hang it up once and for all and become a big part of your son’s life. You need to step back and take stock of what’s really important to you right now. Is it the belt or your health and family? Because you might not get this chance again. I say you seize the day and give up this lifestyle and become a new man. Are you going to finally become a part of your son’s life or are you going to keep chasing whatever it is you seeem to be chasing? If you don’t pull it off this weekend and beat myself or Angel, but you keep wrestling….then you’re not the man I hoped you were. Be a man for once in your life Gib, not a wrestler. Be a man.”
He turns his focus to the other opponent in the match. The ex-champion Angel.
“And then there’s my new best friend Angel. How’s it going buddy? Not good I assume since I bashed your head in with this lovely steel chair here. You don’t know how good it felt to feel the thud as your skull cracked against steel. It was like a religious experience. To be the one who finally got one over on the almighty Angel….it was a thrill. I know the joy you get from inflicting damage on your enemies, and I completely understand it now. You inserted yourself in my affairs for an entire month and you didn’t think I’d want to get revenge? Actually you probably counted on it. This was your plan the whole time wasn’t it? You were going to harass myself and Gib for as long as it took for you to get yourself back in the title picture right? Well congratulations, it worked. I went to Chris Diamond and demanded that he put you in the match at A Night To Remember, and low and behold, there you are. You should thank me for letting you leech on to my title shot. Thank me now…because after Sunday you won’t want to.”
“What you don’t seem to understand is that fury you have directed towards Gib, that rage…..I have it for you. I EARNED this title opportunity by winning the most dangerous match in nCw, and all you had to do was act like a complete prick for a month. You badmouthed me and insulted me at every opportunity, and for the most part I ignored you. I ignored you and it ate you alive. ‘How could someone not give Angel the attention that he craves? Somebody doesn’t care about Angel?!?!?’ The answer was simply ‘no.’ You realized that Will Washington wasn’t interested in your petty little games, so you decided to attack me during the main event tag team match against Awesome and Knite. This p*ssed me off, and you knew it. You know that above all else I care about winning, and costing me a match was enough to send me over the edge. Well I refrained for once. I fought the urge to rip you into ten thousand pieces, and instead used my words. Like a fool I thought telling you what needed to be heard would be enough….it wasn’t. So after a hard fought main event against Nelly Angel, you attacked me yet again, causing me to disappear for a week. You went too far Angel, too damn far. Finally I had had enough and I took action. I made sure you were in the match, and then I stole a trick from your book and attacked you from behind. But don’t expect it to end there boy.”
“You woke the bull. You opened the hornet’s nest. Maybe I was growing complacent with my status as the rising star in New Championship Wrestling. I won the Coliseum Match and the world celebrated me. I was the unstoppable hero that they had always wanted. For a moment I almost felt like things were going well and falling into place. Then you step in and show me that I’ve got so much left to do, so I thank you for that. You helped me find the man that wants to hunt and kill you once again. Maybe you thought you could psych me out like you may have done with a few other guys, but that just shows you don’t know anything about me. Nothing you can do will scare me Angel, I have no fear. Playing god may have helped you pick up wins over Andrew Jacobsen and Sephiroth du Lac, but I’m a whole different animal. You played god for months, but now it’s my turn. This week, I am God.”
“This week young Angel…I hold your life here in these hands. I decide your fate…whether you live or die is up to me. I know you doubt the validity of that statement, but think about it…really think. You and Gib are going to be one hundred percent focused on tearing each other apart. It’s already been stated so eloquently by you two that I don’t deserve to be in this match, so why worry about me? I highly doubt once we get in that ring that you’ll even remember I’m in the match, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. While you two are busy exchanging punches and kicks, I’ll be able to stand back, coil up, and prepare to strike. As you stand there and tear each other apart, I can take my time and enjoy it. Then at whatever point I see fit, I decide your fate. I can end you Angel…. Do you want your family to suffer the way Gib’s does? Do you want to be the father who wasn’t there for his child? Well it’s up to me.”
“Scratch that, I’ve already decided. I’m going to destroy you Angel. I’m not going to wait around and let you and Gib take each other out. I want that to be my pleasure…my reward for winning the Coliseum. Sure I get the title shot, but I’m simply asking for a little extra. I actually want you to come after me Angel. Attack me. Come at me Angel…but do it like a man. For once in your life do it the right way. I’m begging you to come at me, because it’ll be the last stupid thing you ever do. You can play god all you want, but this week there is no playing for me. It’s who I am. This week I’m your judge, jury, and executioner. And for the things you’ve done this past month…..you’re going to get executed.”
“It’s that simple this week. When it’s all said and done this week, there will only be one of us left. Gib will be retired and Angel will be knocking on death’s door. The entire landscape of nCw will be changed because of one match. The change I’ve been talking about for months will finally take place, and I will ascend to the top, where I belong. Everything changes this Sunday…embrace the change. Gib fights for himself…Angel fights for himself…..but I’ll get rid of both of them. And I won’t be doing it for myself. I’m doing it for their good….and for your’s. This isn‘t just a win for me, it‘s a win for all of us. When the dust settles and only I remain, the world will have no choice but to take notice of my word, the words they‘ve been trying to ignore for months. Change will finally happen, and what a glorious day it will be. My only regret will be that Gib had to get in the way.”
As the scene fades out a single sentence lingers.
“Embrace the change.”
