On the top floor of nCw headquarters there is a door. A nice brown door with a golden knob and a name plate made of marble with the words “Leonard” and “Fox” engraved with gold lettering. I must say, that’s a pretty snazzy door, but it makes sense since it belongs to the owner of the best damn wrestling company alive today. Chad Lights, interviewer extraordinaire, paces back and forth in front of said door like he’s guarding it from Mongolians. Anytime he hears any sort of noise from any direction his tiny head and neck snap to that direction.
“Is that him?”
He scans the long hallway like a predator in search of prey. Once he was sure it was nobody his shoulders slumped and he returned to pacing. Every so often he would check his watch.
“It’s been forty five minutes already?”
Chad exclaims, seconds after making the discovery. He finally stops in his place and looks up at the camera man who had been filming this whole thing.
“I’m beginning to think he isn’t coming.”
“Maybe he’s just fashionably late? Big stars tend to do that.”
Chad looks back at the camera man and sighs.
“Who knows? Let’s just get the intro done and see where were at after that.”
Chad does a few pre interview shakes to get loose before pulling out a small stack of note cards from his shirt pocket.
“Hello, everyone my name is Chad Lights and as you can see we’re standing right in front of Leonard Fox’s office door. This is where all the magic happens folks. Almost every day, Mr. Fox, finds himself inside this very office going over just about everything that is about nCw. Sure he has his staff to help him out, but there are still a lot of decisions to be made that only the boss can make. Needless to say, he is a very busy man, so when he calls for a personal meeting, you know it’s going to be extremely important.”
Chad gives the camera a professional nod.
“That’s why we’re here now. Earlier today it was leaked that Leonard Fox himself had requested a one on one meeting with a big star of New Championship Wrestling. Later in the afternoon it was revealed that that particular megastar was none other than Hall of Famer and former champion of the world; Steve Awesome.”
Chad places the cards back into his pocket.
“Now, I don’t need to tell you folks how important this is, because you should already know. All day we could only wonder what the meeting would be about. We came up with a few ideas and mind you, this is only speculation at this point, but with recent events between Steve Awesome, Adam Knite and Leonards own daughter Kelly Knite, not to mention Steve’s pending retirement should he happen to lose his match against Adam in the next few days, we’re thinking it might have something to do with that. Who knows? Leonard might just want the recipe for Steve’s famous Meatball Sub. They are very delicious.”
It’s at this point that Steve Awesome walks into the frame. He does so very silently as to not disrupt Chad.
“As a matter of fact….it’s safe to say that I would eat Steve’s balls on just about anything.”
Undoubtedly, Steve looks a little shocked at Chad’s statement.
“Uh….Chad?”
Chad suddenly stiffens up. He’s been the interviewer in this company for three years, he can pretty much taste his embarrassment coming in the air.
“He’s……right…behind me. Isn’t he?”
Chad slowly turns around and shakes his head as soon as he spots Steve who gives him a quick wave by wiggling all his fingers.
“Look Chad, I’ll just pretend I didn’t hear that last part.”
“I was just talking about-”
“Ah ah ah. Don’t worry about it Chad. I know how you are.”
“How I am? Look I assure you that I was just talking about-”
“It’s okay Chad. I accept you as a person regardless of your life choice.”
Steve pats Chad on the shoulder as Chad just sighs.
“I suppose your hear to ask about this meeting?”
Chad nods his head.
“Well I’m afraid I don’t have many answers for you. I honestly have no idea what Leo wants.”
You could see the disappointment ooze out of Mr. Lights.
“Nothing at all? No inside scoop?”
Steve simply shrugs as he grabs the golden doorknob.
“I guess you’ll just have to wait till I’m done. It shouldn’t take long.”
And with that, Steve opens the door and walks inside. Chad just shrugs his own shoulders as he turns to look at the camera.
“Well, we’ll keep you updated as soon as we know something folks.”
“Do I really understand love? That’s honestly a good question. Does anybody really understand love? Is love something you can even begin to understand? Scientists could describe it as different chemicals being released in your brain to make you feel a certain way. The same thing with being happy or being sad. Anger, excitement, nervousness. All pretty much chemicals that our stored in your brain waiting to be released once you need that emotion. But what makes those chemicals release? How does your brain know what emotion you should be feeling? My personal favorite, Why do you feel pain in your chest and heart when you’ve been emotionally hurt if it’s all chemicals in your brain? I don’t really know the answer to those questions. I guess I could google them and find out but honestly, I enjoy the mystery behind it. I choose to believe blindly with all my heart that love is real and I refuse to let science ruin something so beautiful.”
“Is what I’m feeling really love? Again, I’m not sure. But I’ll tell you this much; I’ve never felt this way about anyone else…ever. Maybe what I feel for Kelly isn’t love at all. Maybe it is an obsession or I’m enamored or any of those other words Adam used to make me seem like some kind of creeper, I don’t really know, but I do know that I never want to have to lose it. I don’t want to wake up one day and feel like crap because I didn’t try. Because I didn’t give it my all. So here I am Adam, a few days away from facing you. One of the absolute best in this company. I’ve seen the blogs, the web casts, the message boards. People who used to look up to me, are now calling me a home wrecker. I’m getting ragged on by all these people who used to wear my t-shirts all because I’m following my heart. I’m not only facing you for a chance to be with her, but per my own request I’m putting my entire career on the line for her. The Hall of Fame, the championships, the chance to wrestle in front of thousands every weekend, they don’t mean anything if I don’t have her in my life. You can’t tell me I’m not willing to sacrifice Adam, because I have everything I am laid out on the table.”
I don’t know if what I’m feeling is really love or not but I know that it’s strong enough to risk everything I have. It’s enough to go all in and hope I have what it takes to make it through to the other side. It sucks Adam, but I had to make a choice. Either go on through life and ignore what I feel inside or fight for it. I chose to fight. I chose to fight you for the one thing that makes us both feel like a million bucks. I chose to fight you for the one thing neither of us want to lose and unfortunately one of us has too. One of us is walking out Sunday as a broken man. One of us is going to feel like our life support has been ripped out of our throats. If one of us is going down this Sunday, I’m going to do everything I have to in order to ensure that it’s you. You can call me selfish if you want but after years of fighting for everyone else…..I think it’s time to do something for me.
You think I’m some kind of horrible person but I’m not Adam. If I feel this strongly about Kelly, then I know that you must feel the same way. Kelly is a very special person and when I think about losing her I start to feel like I can’t breathe so I know that you get those same feelings and I start to get empathetic. But I know that I have to do what I have to do at A Night To Remember. For Kelly. For Me. Maybe you and I could have been friends, but not now, not after Sunday. Because one of us, is going to have to pull the trigger on the other one……
Chad Lights sitting on the floor in the hallway, his back propped up against the wall but he’s fast asleep. Leonard Fox’s office door swings open and out steps Steve Awesome. He lets the door swing shut and the small slam immediately awakens both Chad and the camera man as they both scramble back to there feet.
“Steve! Finally…..”
He yawns as he checks his watch.
“We’ve been waiting out here for two and a half hours!”
“Yeah, took a little longer than I thought.”
Chad does a quick glance back at the cameraman. That was clearly an understatement.
“Well? What happened? What did you guys talk about for two and a half hours?”
“My career. How it’s been long and fulfilling. My possible retirement.”
Chad grins.
“I knew it! Are you staying? Mr. Fox changed your mind didn’t he.”
“Oh he definitely tried. He went over a few alternative options but I made it clear to him that should I lose to Adam Knite this Sunday would be my last in ring appearance.”
“Then what happened?”
“He cried a little. Then tried to get my meatball sub recipe. But I’m taking that baby with me to the grave.”
Chad rubs his stomach.
“Ooh man, well I hope you don’t retire Steve. But if you do, I sure wouldn’t mind tasting your delicious balls in my mouth before you leave.”
This creates a brief awkward silence.
“Riiiiight. Well I’m out of here.”
Steve spins around and takes off down the hallway.
“WAIT! You know what I meant!”
Chad chases Steve down the hallway as the scene fades.
….one of us has to pull the trigger Adam….and I have no problem with blowing your head off.
Sorry in advance.
