It's fair to say she had lived a happy life until her husband turned nasty.
She had her ambitions in life, as we all do. She wanted an offspring, and God graced her with a small baby son who she cherished with each passing second. She also wanted to break the 'glass ceiling' and become the CEO of the multi-national conglomerate which employed her, and she was, all things considered, on her way. She was already on the board of directors, and undoubtedly young and talented enough to go as far in her industry as she wanted.
But things started changing in her life when she met the man she would go on to marry. People tried to tell her that he was a bad influence on her, that he was influencing certain changes in her personality. But she didn't care, nor did she listen. She loved her husband and would stick by him no matter what.. as she would go on to prove. She already had the success she had always craved, and with a strong partner by her side, she believed the sky was the limit.
But whether coincidentally or not, life started changing for the worse. She was still as determined for professional success as she always had been, but for whatever reason, her fellow directors had taken a dislike to her. She suffered humiliation when she was asked to vacate her seat on the board of directors, and replaced by someone with less talent, less drive than her.
And on top of that were the beatings. Her husband was a violent drunk who saw her as nothing more than a punchbag, and she put up with his behavior for years. Every day she would go in to work, faking a smile because she knew personal problems would hold her back in her professional career. She was punctual, and a hard worker, but on occasion she wouldn't turn up at work all week. People would question whether she had cracked under the day-to-day stress of being seated on the board of directors, others suggested she had changed her priorities in life since the birth of her son. The truth was that some weeks, she couldn't fake the smile, and more importantly, her make up couldn't hide the bruising.
But she persevered, because it was in her nature. She was a soldier, a fighter. Although she surpassed all the targets set for her by managers and supervisors, she never received the credit she deserved for doing so. Again, she didn't let it bother her. She would reach CEO one day, and that's all that mattered to her.
Apart from her son.
Because when her now ex-husband tried to gain custody of her only child, she stopped caring about respect or position. The only thing that mattered to her was holding on to her baby. And she would never let him go. Not until her last breath had been inhaled.
So here's the thing Tommy. I've been beaten...and I've been broken. You could say that you're facing me at the best possible time. You don't only want to add to my professional humiliation, you don't only want to come back to give me another beating. You want to take my Xtreme Title away from me.
And I can smile through the beatings. I can stay strong despite humiliation. But I cannot survive with out the one thing you want to take away. And I don't care how many lawyers you bring to the custody trial.
I'll kill every one of you and walk out of courtroom holding my son if that's what it comes down to. I don't care about how unconventional I have to be. Hook or crook? Like I give a damn. The only thing on my mind is leaving the arena on Sunday night knowing that the Xtreme Title is still mine to hold.
Without it, I'm not just a broken man.
I'm a man with nothing.
