The scene opens inside Steve Awesome’s marble bathroom. He comes backing in slowly, giving whatever was on the opposite side of the door one last glance. He smiles and gives his hard work a nod of satisfaction. He spins around and walks up toward the kitchen sink to wash his hands. As he does so he spots his reflection in the mirror.
“Everything is perfect.”
He tells himself.
“She’s going to love it.”
He starts to dance around a bit to pep himself up.
“After today, everything will be right again. Kelly will be back in your arms and we will be the big happy family I always knew we could be. Then after that’s settled, you go on win the World Championship. You bring that title home to Kelly and Ryliegh and you show them what a real champion is like. If you show them what your capable they would have no choice but to love you. Just wow them with your impressive arsenal of moves and holds, wrestle circles around these fools, and wham bam thank you mam your world heavyweight champion. You can do it. All you gotta do is get past Adam, Angel and Brad Kane.”
“….pffffft….”
His spit smacks against the mirror.
“….Brad Kane. Heh, I almost forgot he was in the match. Now me and Bradley, we have a fairly checkered past you would say. We’ve been up and down the roads with each other and he’s kicked my ass and I’ve kicked his ass. We had a nice series going on there for awhile and I have to admit it may have helped boost my career, because back then, not many people could say they were able to beat Reckless Jack, as he was known in his hey day. But now look at him…..”
He just shakes his head. Tsking the whole time.
“He sure in the hell isn’t Reckless Jack anymore. He’s just…..Brad Kane.”
Steve makes a pathetic fart noise with his mouth.
“I remember the days when I used to dread getting inside a ring against Reckless Jack. I remember when I would just say…well may as well start thinking of excuses now because I am screwed. But now…it’s just Brad Kane. The family man? The only man in the world that literally multiplies like a rabbit. His biggest way to attempt intimidation is that he’s going to kick you. Well guess what Bradley….I’m going to outwrestle you. How’s that sound? I hope you enjoy it because that’s the way its going to be. I know you’ve trained in Japan and all that cool stuff but this isn’t two thousand seven Brad. This isn’t the Road of Reckless Jack. This is two thousand ten, Brad. It’s a new decade, a new era, where I reign supreme. Not Angel, Not Adam, not you, Me. Your only in this match because you managed to find a little bit of sunlight through that constant cloudy haze that is your life. A streak of luck managed to get you into one of the hugest main events in a long time. That same streak of luck is going to make you finally see the thing you won’t let yourself believe. You just don’t want it anymore. You don’t have the same passion that Reckless Jack did. Your only here because other then wrestling….you just don’t know what to do with yourself. But it’s cool Brad….I got a new job for you….”
He smirks.
“Your going to be the guy who counts the lights. Starts this Sunday night.”
He laughs and reaches to flip off the handy-cam when suddenly he hears a loud car exhaust. He looks out his window and spots Johnny Rotten, Jayson Matthews and a fairly upset Kelly Knite. McM are waving.
“Thank you Betty White!”
Johnny nods his head.
“Yeah, you’re the best.”
A cherry red thunder bird with flames down the side revs up and takes off down the street. Jayson looks up at Johnny.
“I’m not gonna lie….Betty White is pretty sexy for an old lady.”
Johnny just stares at his tag partner in disgust.
“That’s nasty man.”
Johnny walks off and Jayson follows him.
“I meant it as in badass. You wouldn’t do her in that T-Bird?”
McM trail off leaving Kelly alone in the front lawn. After spending time with Adam, just being back at this house again made her hate everything so much more. She thought about just bailing, but her baby is inside and she wouldn’t leave her. Suddenly, Awesome comes walking out the door.
“Kelly!”
He yells, his arms outstretched as he walks toward her. Steve wraps his arms around her but Kelly just stays in the same position. Arms close and uncomfortable.
“I missed you.”
“Steve, we need to talk.”
Kelly says, getting straight to the point. Steve waves it off.
“We can talk later. I have a surprise for you inside. Come on.”
Steve tries to lead her in but Kelly pulls her hand out of his.
“I don’t want to go back in there. I need to talk to you now.”
Her voice was firm. Never skipping a beat.
“Just let it wait for five seconds. I worked hard on this and I want you to see it. Afterward, you can tell me anything you like.”
Kelly tries to resist at first but Steve eventually convinces her to walk inside. She enters the door and moves around a corner behind Steve. What she saw in the main room, left her speechless. The set up was gorgeous! A candlelit dinner set for two. Various sizes and shapes of candles sat at various distances away from the fine china sitting on the table. White Orchids, Kelly’s favorite flower, were strewn about the place leaving the beautiful smell to waft in the room. Awesome pulls the lid off the main course and it’s Kelly’s all time favorite food. He stands and smiles, pulling off a hoody to reveal a sharp suit.
“What do you think?”
Steve flashes a smile. Kelly looks around at the beautiful and romantic set up that she should be sharing with Adam.
“You made all this for me?”
Steve nods his head.
“Anything for you.”
She shakes her head in anger.
“You just don’t get it! I’m never going to Lo-”
But suddenly she stops herself. He poured his heart into this dinner and even though she hates his guts and would love to just crush his dreams right then in there…she decided against it. She had to admit it though, she was kind of impressed.
“Uh….I’m never going to sit down if you don’t pull out a chair for me.”
Awesome quickly grabs her chair for her and starts putting some food on her plate. Steve kept talking for hours and as she ate….she just kept hoping that Adam would save her soon.
“Everything is perfect.”
He tells himself.
