Joe: Oookay. How do I look?
Joe spins around to his sons as they sit in a playpen, whom are looking at their dad in what's essentially khaki jeans and a button-down version of his usual orange tank top. Jayden claps, while Brandon tries to reach his toes.
Joe: One's impressed, and the other's...not so much. Alright, then, this is close enough, I'd say. You gotta cut me some slack, though, guys.
He grabs a comb and brushes his usually spiky hair down.
Joe: I've never really had 'dates' before. Sarah and I met at school, and our first date was a bar brawl. Tanya and I just hung out a lot backstage at EWT, and we connected. What's-her-name...well, she was intro'd to me by Shelly, and we hung out with them at the bars after GWC shows. Theeeen we found out her terrible little secret.
Both boys tilt their heads in curiosity, which Joe sees in the mirror.
Joe: Ah...right, you're a little too young to hear about it. Then of course I met your mom. Freya and I met after she broke off her relationship with Andy. I came over to where the Kanes were living at the time, she told me how they met...and history sorta just repeated itself. But...again, too young to know about it.
He turns around, walking to his sons in their pen and rubbing their heads gently.
Joe: Maybe someday. Heck, you guys still haven't learned your ABCs, have you? Yeah. I think maybe Freya an' me should do that with you guys, sit you down to some Sesame Street and help ya learn.
He plops on the floor in front of them, watching as Jayden walks around, while Brandon plays with the teething ring.
Joe: Yanno that show's gone through a lot of changes since I was a kid? Elmo was hardly popular, yet now kids seem familiar with him more than Big Bird, who was like the first thing anyone on the show saw. And the idea of them adding girl Muppets to the show...not a bad idea in theory, but they just seem, I dunno...TOO girly. Eh, maybe I'm waxing nostalgic. Not like you guys know what I'm talking about, right? Right.
He grabs the boys out of the pen and carries them around the house.
Joe: Alright, your mom's not around tonight, so Brad and Megan are gonna keep an eye on you two. So be on your best behavior, okay?
The twins, in a seemingly understandable way, nod.
Joe: Good, then. Now let's go. Daddy has to make a promo before he leaves...
****
Blind date. Me. On a blind date. I never thought I'd be going on one of these when I married Freya.
But, the marriage is in the past, and it's time to move forward. Freya certainly seems to have. Me, I gotta get myself back on the rebound, and hope I have some good luck.
Unlike, yanno, that guy I'm facing. "Bad Luck" Chuck's his name, from what I get.
Well...the guy certainly seems to be a fan of mine. That doesn't mean I'm gonna go easy on him, of course. I mean...I've been gone from the ring since a few months before GWC closed down. That was, what, fall of 08? Like, just before I dated Freya? Sorry, Chuck, but in all honesty, your luck isn't the best. And on Sunday, it's going to get worse.
Like I've said, I'm all about FUN. So don't be surprised if, by the end of the match, you're embarrassed by how quick the match goes. Or if I trip you up a few times. Or, hell, if I just wanna get it over with and hit a finisher on you on the spot.
Whatever the case, just like me and this date, you're walking into the match blind. You're a fan, and you think you get me...but ya don't.
So have FUN, Chuck, while it lasts.
