(Falcon sat on the edge of the apron of the practice ring. He looked lost in thought, completely ignoring everything around him. He used the worn towel in his hand to wipe the sweat from his face, and when he pulled the towel away, Zelda was standing in front of him, a hot pocket in each hand.}
Zelda: All done?
Falcon: For the most part...
(She extended a hot pocket to him, and he took it.)
Falcon: Thanks..
Zelda: You're welcome..
(She hopped up to sit beside him on the apron, munching on her delicious treat. Falcon just stared at the one in his hand.)
Zelda: Something the matter?
Falcon: Yes and no... Just a lot of different things to think about is all.
(She placed a hand on his arm.)
Zelda: Tell me.. I can help.. you know?
Falcon: It's just.. I don't know.. it's finally going to end.. a six month journey will be over.. and then I'll be right back into the middle of something else.
Zelda: You can't just let it go.. can you?
(He turned to face her, to find her staring at him.)
Falcon: There comes a time when someone pushes too far.. and you have to stand up and protect that which matters... because if you don't.. they'll keep trampling on it until there's nothing left to stamp into the dirt.
(Zelda looked away.)
Falcon: I know you think that they're good people.. and I'm sure at some level they are. But if they're going to keep picking fights.. if they're going to keep playing the block bully.. someone has to stand up and stop this before the innocent get buried underneath the rubble.. you know?
Zelda: ....I know.
Falcon: I know you may not believe it... but this isn't about me. This is about kids like Jacobsen.. and Destructor.. people who's careers have just begun.. I won't stand for people like the Front Office trying to monopolize everything.
(Long pause.)
Zelda: Just promise me.. when it's over, you'll give them a chance.. ok?
Falcon: I promise...
A lot of people question what my whole 'List' was about. People think I wanted some kind of vengeance for what kept happening to me, and though that was a small part of it, it was only a piece of a much bigger picture. When I put those four names down on that piece of paper, I made a pact that I wouldn't stop until those four men were gone. That didn't neccesarily mean gone from the business, or even this company. It wouldn't have mattered to me if Bates, or Zane were still here, so long as they weren't the same men who did what they had done. That's why, even though I have the chance to get rid of Rob Diamond, albeit by his own edict...
I don't want to.
I never wanted anything more than to watch Rob shine like he could. Even when he brought Chris out of retirement specifically to try and kill me, I never wanted him gone. Even when he turned and walked away from me, I never wanted to see him go for good. Even when he got that misfit little crew together to teach me a lesson, I never wanted him to walk away. Rob thinks that I'm the heart of wrestling.. of nCw.. fact is I'm simply a cog in the machine. No greater or lesser than he himself is. Once Rob gets over being his own worst enemy..
I think he'll be alright.
(They were sitting in silence, then Falcon's phone beeped. He reached over and grabbed it, checking the message, then put it back down.)
Zelda: What was that?
Falcon: Just a reminder to myself..
Zelda: About what?
(She was leaning over, trying to see. But Falcon was quick and pulled it away.)
Falcon: Nosey aren't we?
(She responded by wrinkling her nose and sticking her tongue out at him.)
Falcon: It's just a reminder to work on my submissions. I haven't tried to make someone tap out in forever, not sure I even remember how.
Zelda: Oh, that's simple... Come on, I'll show you a thing or two.
(She stood on the apron and stepped into the ring, ushering the two rookies it in away. Falcon soon joined her.)
Falcon: This isn't going to hurt is it?
Zelda: Oh you big baby...
Falcon: Hey, after what happened at the three year show.. I'm not taking any chances with Zeldaberg.
(The camera pans away from them, to Falcon's phone. Where the message read plainly.)
"Reservation confirmed. Friday 8:30 pm."
In truth Rob, I'm giddy. Giddier than I have been in a long time. It's been ages since someone came at me with the determination you've showed already. You'd think with all the cheap, low road taking idiots there are in this world, someone would have thought of this before. I mean, you have the nutso high flyer who practically kills himself by just jumping off stuff, this should have been obvious for all those lame asses. But you... You stood up and fought me in my creation, you've passed the great trial as it were. How could I honestly say no? This is your moment, the moment that shows every doubter, every hater that Rob is the f'ing King of Diamonds. Rob is the greatest wrestler ever to walk the planet. Some other guys on the roster would sit here and act all smug and say they aren't surprised they were chosen to be a proving ground. But me?
I'm honored.
The real Lance Ryan has returned. I've heard rumors of Spike Kane lurking. The Hollands are back.. and yet, you picked me. But, in things otherwise, I don't feel like I have any other choice that to crack open the old wrestling training manual and try to find something in there tough enough, unexpected enough to be the one thing you haven't thought of.. haven't prepared for. There's not a doubt in my mind that winning this match will be leaps and bounds tougher than the last one. But that's always been what seperates guys like me and you from the mindless flocks of sheep out there, right? I know it may not be my kind of match, but I'll make it count.
Promise.
Cross my heart and all that jazz.
Zelda: Are you ready for this?
Falcon: Ready as I'll ever be...
(Falcon was on his back, Zelda had his feet and she stepped through his legs, crossing them over her body.)
Zelda: Step through.. cross them like so.. and then..
(Zelda turned Falcon over, completing the lock into the Triforce Sharpshooter. She didn't lean back to wrench the hold and so Falcons discomfort was minimal.)
Zelda: And then just turn over.. see?
Falcon: ....Yes..
Zelda: Are you ok..?
Falcon: Back problems.. remember?
Zelda: Oh I'm sorry!
(She let go of his feet, and he turned onto his back, reaching up to grab hold of her and pulling her down on top of him, wrapping his arms around her. She squirmed and giggled.)
Zelda: You jerk! I thought I hurt you!
Falcon: Oh just because I grabbed you doesn't mean I was lying..
(She turned over, straddling his stomach.)
Zelda: So what do you think?
Falcon: It's a great move.. but he'll expect it. It might not be enough.
Zelda: Well.. I do have one more trick up my sleeve... but after the stunt you pulled I'm not sure I want to show you...
Falcon: Oh.. please?
(She leaned down halfway, closing the distance.)
Zelda: You can do better....
Falcon: Pretty please...?
(She leaned down further.)
Zelda: Almost...
(He leaned up to meet her suddenly, whispering just before their lips met.)
Falcon: I love you..
Zelda: Bingo...
(Fade.)
We, as wrestlers, can only move forward. Dwelling on the past is a futile effort. Reliving the glory days never lasts forever. You either move forward with the crowd, or you get left behind. I still move forward, but I blaze my own trail. It's up to you to follow them.. or me. And I'm better than I ever have been.
