Nobody has heard much from Adam Knite in recent weeks, outside his “Knitington” skits with his good friend Will Washington Adam has been incredibly quiet. In fact ever since the “Steve Awesome Incident”... Adam hasn't said much of anything to say concerning NCW or really anything for that matter, other than his open admission that he just doesn't seem to care anymore. Looking around he sees the young guys claiming the New Championship Wrestling as their own. He sees the guys like Freakke and Jason Blair, he sees his own teenage sister, and Joe Ragnal, he sees as the winds of change are blowing and can't help but feel them blowing him away. He's almost thrity years old, he can feel the bumps hurting worse, he can feel the punches having more impact than they used to and he finds it harder and harder to get up in the morning after a big match, there's no escaping it, everything around him has changed and there seems to be no stopping it.
Does he even want to fight it? Why should he? He's got nothing else to prove, nothing else to accomplish, he's done it all, he's finally at peach with himself, his family, his life and has everything he's ever wanted. Kelly is his by his side, they have beautiful daughter and his little sister seems to finally be on the right track thanks to his training and guidance. World championships... he has plenty of them, and even had a great run last year with the NCW title finally. Tag Team titles? More than he can count. Winning the Coliseum, beating Steve Awesome in an Iron Man Match, beating every opponent he's ever faced. Angel, Falcon, Steve Awesome... they've all fallen at some time to Adam, he's made them all tap out at one point or another. Is there anything left, what else is there?
The love of wrestling is keeping his heart beating on life support, but all it would take is Kelly saying she wants to be at home and live as a family for him to pack the bags and walk away forever. He sits in the large hotel room alone with his thoughts. Kelly is outside by the pool, having a good time in the sun, Zelda is off with Jacobsen, they are both doing their daily routines for the past week, leaving him alone with Ryleigh who is resting peacefully on a pillow laying in the floor. Does he even have a match this week? He hardly knows, he hardly remembers. Thinking deeply about it, yeah.. he remembers Will calling him during the week talking about their match against Total Eclipse.
Great... now he's trying to remember who Total Eclipse is, not in some cocky or arrogant way as if dismissing them as a relevant team, but in a serious... he just hasn't had his head in the game enough recently to even realize that Dave Holland is going on to the Road to the Gold to take on DDK. He can't help but let out a deep sigh as he thinks about the old days, when he would dissect his opponents for hours, watching film and working out, doing anything he could to try and get an edge, to work on being better and now he's sitting in a large hotel room floor with a seven month old child sleeping next to him. The anger, the monster, the raptor... it's all gone away, blown away in the wind.
There's no reason to carry on this facade, there is no reason to keep pretending this is where his heart is. Everybody sees it, everybody knows it. Velez and Zelda's Young Guns have been talking about it for weeks. Adam has lost that fire that keeps every wrestler going, he's lost his desire, he's lost his purpose... and it's time to finally admit that to himself, and to his fans, to the wrestling world... Adam Knite's time had come, he's made the Hall of Fame, he's done it all... there's no reason to fight, no reason to bleed, no reason to hurt anymore. It's pretty much decided at this point, Adam Knite... is no more. The king of NCW was leaving his crown for somebody else, was passing the torch, was doing some other cliché of handing the reigns to a new king. Would it be Andrew and Zelda taking over his “kingdom”? Would it be somebody else who stepped up and claimed the throne?
Thinking about it, he didn't really care. His indifference painfully evident as he sat there. Knitington he thought would keep his batteries going... didn't happen. Watching over Zelda and her career he thought would keep his tanked fueld... still nothing. Maybe the admiration of his adoring fans, their cheers would keep him fighting, even listening to their chants... had little effect anymore. It's time to walk away. If he can't even remember why he's doing this, or why he's fighting, then he needs to step to the side and let those young stars move in and take his spot.
When Kelly got back he'd tell her first, let her know that he was walking away, maybe he could see if Leonard needed some road agents, maybe he'd see if there was a spot for him backstage to get out of the spotlight and still be close to the business. After that he'd tell Zelda, he knows she'd take it the hardest... because she's just like that, she hates change, and Ryleigh would never grow up to see her dad punch another man in the face, never see him stand on the top of the world with his arms raised. She would only hear the stories and see the awards on the wall and she'll never have to be put through this.
He looks over at her laying there... this is what he wants... he knows that now... right?......

[Kelly walks into the room. Her hair dyed to prevent people from seeing the effects of growing older. She looks at her husband, he's grown large, the effects of spending his life working out and beefing up, and then suddenly just stopping. The muscle has turned to fat, the wrinkles are more every day. Their tattoos are fading, their lives are quiet... for the most part.]
Adam: Hey sweety.
Kelly: **laughs** Hey babe, whatcha doing?
Adam: Just watching some television....
Kelly: Watching Zelda from last night?
Adam: Yeah Tivo'd it last night. Man she's still going strong... these “girls” can't keep up with her.
Kelly: I told you it was a great show...that's Zelda she lives for this.
Adam: probably why her and Andrew never had kids, no time for anything like that, not when she spends it all wrestling... I'm glad I got out early... spending time with my family.
[Kelly rolls her eyes and turns her back to him, Adam can't help but notice that response. He would get up and stop her but he's too lazy and a bit too fat, that would require using energy.]
Adam: Hey... what's that about?
Kelly: Oh come on Adam... you left so you could be with your family so you could be a father, and yet we never had anymore kids and you have hardly anything to do with Ryleigh's life.
Adam: That's bull **** and you know it.
Kelly: uh huh... do you even know where she's been all night?
Adam: Uhhh yeah.. upstairs listening to her damn rap music.
Kelly: I just picked her up from her basketball game...
Adam: Oh.. it's basketball season? Already?
Kelly: Yeah, some devoted father you are. Maybe if you'd stop watching wrestling for ten minutes you'd know these things.
Adam: Whatever Kelly, I'm great at this.. so I forgot one game, big deal. How'd she do?
Kelly: Game winning shot.
[Just as Kelly finishes, a slender girl about 5'6” with long brown hair and blue eyes, around 16, walks into the room with a phone in one hand pressed to her ear. Adam smiles from ear to ear with a big goofy grin and seems ecstatic to see her.]
Adam: Way to go Ry! That's my girl!
[She turns and looks at him, her eyes then as she lowers the phone and stares at him confused. She then just rolls her eyes, much like Kelly did not so long ago and heads towards the kitchen. She pulls out a bottle of water from the fridge and heads back to where she came from, Adam looks at Kelly then looks back at her before speaking up.]
Adam: Hey!? You just going to ignore me young lady?!
Ryleigh: Hold up Aunt Z, He's wanting to act like he cares all of a sudden.
[Ryleigh turns around and puts her hands on her hips as she looks at her dad.]
Ryleigh: What?
Adam: Don't you talk to me like that young lady! I'm trying to tell you I'm proud of you.
Ryleigh: Like you care? You couldn't get off the couch long enough to come see me play.
Adam: I'm sorry, I forgot.
Ryleigh: You never knew!
Adam: Don't you take that tone with me young lady!
Ryleigh: GAH! Would you stop talking like you're from the fifties or something. I don't have to listen to you.
Adam: That's it, Go to your room.
Ryleigh: NO. You've never had anything to do with me, you've never been a father, you're just some selfish guy who sits around here and does nothing all day that mom keeps around for some unknown reason.
Kelly: Ryleigh... that's enough, your father did a lot to get us where we are right now.
Ryleigh: Oh come on! He quit like sixteen years ago so he could sit around and be lazy all day, doing absolutely nothing. It's just like Aunt Zelda says.. he doesn't care about anybody but himself, that's why he walked away and quit, that's why he just sits around her pretending to be a father!
[Adam looks like somebody just stabbed him through the heart, but he pushes that back and decides to get angry instead.]
Adam: Hey, don't you dare talk about my career. I walked away for you, because I wanted to be with my family.
Ryleigh: Oh please. You've been saying that to me since I was five dad. You've barely lifted a finger while mom supports us, you sit around watching old matches and looking all lost like you don't know what do with yourself, you've never been there for me... you never “feel like it”. At least if you were wrestling I could say “that's my dad, kicking ass every week” no... I've got nothing as far as a father goes, I have a mom and a fat lump of lard on the couch.
Kelly: Come on Ryleigh, I know you're upset, but that's enough. Your father loves you.
Ryleigh: He sure has a funny way of showing it... I think it's time I told him.
Kelly: No.. not yet, I'll tell him when the time is right.
Adam: Tell me what?
Ryleigh: I'm leaving, when I turn seventeen I'm going with Aunt Zelda, I'm going to be a wrestler... LIKE HER, she's going to train me.
Adam: No! We left that business years ago.
Ryleigh: You did! This is what I want to do and you can't stop me. You gave up, you quit, you couldn't handle it anymore.... that doesn't mean everybody has to follow you. This is what I want to do with my life, and hey... when I'm wrestling maybe then you'll finally pay attention to me... that is... if I ever get on TV, we know you won't ever pick your big butt up to see a show in person.
Adam: You agreed to this Kelly!?
Kelly: Yeah Adam, it's what she wants to do.
Adam: **** this! I'm the boss around here, I'm the man in charge, what I say goes.
Ryleigh: I hate you.
[Everybody stops and becomes quiet as they just stand there. Adam looks too hurt to speak and Kelly just shakes her head.]
Kelly: Adam that putting your foot thing down would work, if anybody around her respected you, but those days are long gone.
Adam: What are you talking about?
Kelly: Come on, it's been that way since you gave up... since you decided you couldn't handle the business anymore. First Zelda stopped and started resenting you, then all your old friends who you stopped keeping in touch with, then Ryleigh and finally even I have given up on you. This is what she wants, and Zelda is the one who can give that to her. I'm sorry...
[Adam lowers his head in shame as he looks a the floor. Ryleigh doesn't even seem to have tears in her eyes or even care about what her father is feeling.]

Adam shakes his head rapidly back and forth, knocking away the day dream. He looks at Ryleigh who turns over onto her other side, then back over, restless. She reaches out looking for a bottle. Adam takes one and slides it over to her, and she begins sucking, slowly going right back to sleep. Adam looks out the window into the Vegas skyline, his eyes thin as if he was angry, he stares out intently on the world around him.
He doesn't care about the business anymore he thought, he didn't care about wrestling anymore he thought. Awards, accomplishments, titles, everything.. he'd done it all right? This was no longer the world he wanted to be apart of, the kingdom he wanted to rule over, this was not for him, Kelly and Ryleigh, it was an easy decision, it was such a simple choice, he would just walk away and leave happy because he had done everything he had set out to do, because his life was complete.

No...
The king wasn't dead yet.
The fire wasn't gone.
The passion was still there.
He just needed a reason...
Something to show him the way.
Who knew that a seven month old baby...
Would be the answer.
Maybe it was time to bring back the monster...
Maybe it was time to make people afraid of the dark again...
Maybe it was time for them to Fear the Knite.
There is no walking away form the throne........
And with a nod of his head and a cocky little smirk, everything fades away...
