The police came to my house, and took Sarah into custody.
I didn't bat an eyelash.
After Trauma, I began packing my bags for Ireland.
I don't remember what I packed.
I said good-bye to family and friends who wished me a safe trip.
I didn't really show any emotion to them.
When my brother Devon drove me to the Airport, we stopped at a diner and talked.
I didn't say a word.
Nor did I listen to a word he said.
I was almost stopped from boarding the plane for not answering whether or not I was submit to a body search or if I wanted to go through the machine.
I really didn't care.
People came up to me, wanting autographs, asking questions, wanting pictures.
I ignored them all.
I received over 200 tweets and got 6 or 7 text messages.
I didn't read one.
the flight was delayed over 2 hours.
I barely noticed.
Once on board, the plane's wing malfunctioned.
It didn't bother me.
- - -
All of these things were going on around me, and I wasn't aware of any of it at the time.
Everything happening, all at once. It was all one big blur.
I sat on the plane, I-pod playing Stevie Ray Vaughan.
I was focused on one goal.
And to even my own surprise, it wasn't about Roxi.
Not this time.
It was about defeating Curtis Kanyon.
- - -
It consumed me.
Beating him in that ring on Sunday.
One mission.
no other option but to be victorious.
Not to avenge a loss to him in a triple threat match.
Not to get some sort of revenge.
Not to prove superiority in the ring.
No, none of those were viable reasons.
There was only one thing I could come up with.
I have to beat Curtis Kanyon...
because I'm better than he is.
I can eat guys like him alive, when I choose to.
So why, or my importantly how, did Curtis win last Saturday?
I hadn't been this obsessed over one person in quite a while.
He's cannot be that good.
But yet, there he was, on Saturday, pinning my shoulders to the mat.
MY shoulders.
There is no logical reason that something like that should have happened.
- - -
So, there I was, on a plane, about to join in a ridiculous search and rescue mission to find my wife, who had been missing since May.
With so many twists and turns in the story. So much false hope, and living by the word of some vigilante detective working with the Irish police.
I had to lie to the Tampa public, in the hopes of someone slipping up.
I had to allow torture of occur in my own home.
Just for another glimmer of hope.
I halted the potential rescue of my wife to fly to Ireland to witness it firsthand...
And all I can think about is Curtis Kanyon.
- - -
Listen to me, you may think I'm rambling on like some gossipy neighbor.
But, I don't think I can stress to you, or anyone else the importance of this match.
I literally had Curtis Kanyon on the brain.
I couldn't stop myself.
Curtis, I don't think you really know what you've done.
But I know you'll have some witty comeback, some sly remark, some hip saying that'll make every one of your friends laugh.
That's what I want.
You'll brag about beating me, of course.
You'll talk a great game about being world champion and not getting a re-match, which you richly deserve.
Go for it.
You'll probably even throw in a catchphrase or two. How does it go "Bang", right?
That's fantastic.
Because I'm getting to know you.
Better than you even know yourself.
I can do that.
I can do just about anything I really want.
Wait...I know what you're going to say, "Of course you want to be DDK." and "You can do anything except beat Curtis Kanyon" Yes. That sounds like what you'd say after hearing this.
As I said Curtis, I only thought of you...
For days.
- - -
Curtis, I want you to think very long, and very hard about what exactly is about to happen at Breaking Away this Sunday. I want you to be fully aware of what the end result will be.
I'm going to beat you.
Because I can.
but you already knew that, didn't you?
Yes, you can hide behind bravado and your win last week. Which I know you will.
"I already beat Ricky Johnson, so I'll just do it again."
Who are you trying to convince Curtis?
Really? Are you hoping to convince me to not enter that ring?
Are you trying to plead your case for a world title re-match by complaining about having to face me again?
No, you're better than that.
I mean, hell, I respect you Curtis, you don't get to be world champion by accident here. I know you're tough. I know you're the crazy bad ass wrestler around here. I know you are a great wrestler. A true talent here.
And I know I'm better than you.
Which is EXACTLY why beating you is so important.
- - -
And as I stepped off the airplane, after eight hours trying to fully understand Curtis Kanyon,I was sure of two things.
One, I was going to defeat Curtis Kanyon at Breaking Away.
And two, the one that hit me like a ton of bricks. why I was even there: My wife.
Yes, I was putting you above my wife, Curtis, that's how much I'm looking forward to this match.
Can you feel it.
Can you sense it.
It's in the air.
It's all around you.
Your defeat, at my hands.
- - -
Some may call it an obsession, Curtis.
The amount of time, all spent thinking about you.
Wanting to destroy you.
To conquer you.
Visualizing my hand being raised, my music playing, the fans cheering, or booing, or whatever they want.
My only thought every day.
My first, and last.
YOU.
But it's only the tip of the iceberg, Curtis.
This Sunday, I will have more in store for you.
Because I have to beat you Curtis.
I HAVE TO...
More than you will ever know.
