There comes a time where a man has to defy convention. Where he has to do something so out of character, so opposite his normal every day pattern that people scratch their heads. When you reach the fork in the road, and go straight.
(Falcon was laying on a rather ornate looking couch. He was staring at the ceiling, not bothering to look when a soft female voice floated in from off screen.)
Woman: So, talk to me.. tell me what you're feeling...
Falcon: Right now?
Woman: Good a time as any. Let's start with now..
Falcon: Now.. it's one part sadness.. one part annoyance.. and the other part I guess is just rage...
Woman: That's a great start... let's cover why you're sad...
Falcon: Let's say.. you find something.. something special.. you think you found one thing that it didn't matter who you were or what you've done.. that thing.. didn't care...
Woman: I'm assuming we're talking about another person..
Falcon: Well, alright if you want to be a suspense killer...
Woman: Part of my job.. so sadness..
Falcon: Ever watch something slip through your fingers.. and you know you have the chance to reach out and grab it.. but you hesitate just a second too long?
Woman: I'm going to assume that's metaphorical.
Falcon: Yes. It was like.. watching a firework.. you know it's going to explode and be gone forever, but you still can't keep the match off the fuse. I knew there was no stopping her.. once she saw all the neat things they could do for her.. all the things they could offer.. boring old me stopped being appealing..
Woman: What did they offer that you could not?
Falcon: That's just it.. I gave her everything she wanted. Sure, she jokes about it now.. about my supposed emo time in the basement. But I'm sorry I didn't rearrange my entire house just so my workout stuff was in a better place. Half the time I doubted she knew where I was in the first place... but still, every meal was cooked, right on time. She acts like I ignored her, when in fact, it was quite the opposite. Now she has this whole thing about how we 'never did anything' when half the time prying her off a game to have a 30 second conversation was too much to ask. It's maddening.
Woman: I take it that leads to your annoyance...
Falcon: Yes.
Woman: Let's go with that...
I was sitting here, after I finished my last promo, thinking about what I could do. I could have doctored a video, cutting together words you spoke, and send it to Annette. Give her a little proof that you care more about some trinket than her love for you, more about the gold belt than the fact she's stood by you no matter what happened. But then again, why should I bother? It's only going to hurt her, it's pretty obvious that as long as you have the title you're not going to care what happens to her. So, I decided to save that for when I beat you this Sunday, so you'll have nothing to turn to. Then again, I might not, she seems smart enough to realize what a worthless pile of crap you are. So that left me with a dilemma?
What can I take from you?
No point in ripping apart your family, because you don't care about it. It would take me years to tear Velez industries from your grasp. But I don't want it anyway, and I doubt you give a damn about that as well. So all that leaves is the World Championship.
So, sad.. but I'll have to go with that.
Falcon: Right.. anyway, it was frustrating to experience a sudden shift.. suddenly everything that apparently attracted her to me was a lie.. suddenly it was my fault that I was exactly who I presented myself to be in the beginning, and someone came along with a shiny new toy.. and I didn't interest her anymore.. like our relationship was simply one big mistake and the sad part is, I kinda thought she was right.
Woman: If she was right, why didn't you let her go?
Falcon: Go to them? That's like getting a nice raw steak, taking care of it, cooking it, getting ready to eat it.. then just dropping it to the pitbulls in the yard next door. She could have left me for Jacobsen.. hell had she just said.. I'm leaving you for Rob.. I'd of been ok with that.. least I know deep down he's a good kid when it's something he cares about. But Velez and crew are just going to use her and discard her.
Woman: And how do you know their intentions?
Falcon: Have you listened to them? Unless they're talking to her, they treat her like she's a little show pony.. something to be seen and not heard. And she's too enamoured with the fact they're being nice to her to see that.
Woman: Maybe this time, you're wrong.
Falcon: Possible. But not likely. The moment I see them actually attempting to find Blair.. or Doc.. or JFK.. one of their supposed "friends" is the day I'll consider them to possibly have a soul. They care about themselves, and each other, and the latter part I'm sure is only because they have to.
Woman: So, why worry?
Falcon: Come again?
Woman: If you knew this was coming, knew there was nothing you could do to stop it, why are you worrying about it now?
Falcon: Because I do still care. It's not something that goes away in a day.
Woman: I see...
Falcon: I hope so. Hate to think you're making a doodle over there on my time.
Woman: Oh, these are very complex notes..
Falcon: I'm sure.
Woman: So why not get to your rage?
Falcon: If you insist...
So, what to do? I can screw with this match anyway I want.. Hmmm.. let's see..
Ban the Closure?
Take away your finisher, make you be more than a one trick pony. Hmm.. that's a good idea, but it really doesn't matter what moves you do or do not have at your disposal. I can plan, counter, and anticipate anything. Maybe change the match type?
Assault X?
Something I specialize in, the high flying type stuff. Make you go out of your element. But then I thought, nah, seems like too much work to put down little old you.
Death Cage?
A place where I could really do some damage? Nah. Anything I could do to you in there, I could do with my bare hands, so it would just be giving you something. And we can't have that, can we? No, that would just be a kindness to someone who deserves nothing but the cold reality of the fact he's completely overmatched.
No matter what he does.
So what to do? Decisions, decisions.
Falcon: I'm not prone to hating... I dislike.. I have disdain, but I can get over all of that. But it was never hate...
Woman: Until..?
Falcon: Charlie Velez...
Woman: Why is he so special?
Falcon: I've seen a hundred guys full of their own hype. Men who cheat, lie, connive, steal.. all sorts of things. Most of them burn out in a year.. but Charlie.. something about him tells me that he has the determination to be a super douchebag and keep on avoiding a breakdown forever.. unless I do something about it first.
Woman: What if you're wrong..
Falcon: I don't give a **** if I am. Charlie is holding the World title, doesn't matter how he got it. I won the Riot.. and I'm going to make good on that win by taking away from him the only thing he holds dear. And if he won't collapse on his own, I'll make him.
(Suddenly the voice wasn't the soft female one, but a gruff manly voice.)
Man: Hate.. You know where this leads..
It's barbarically simple, as most good ideas. So, what should I do?
Nothing.
Nothing at all. Beat you in the ring, in a match that caters to you as much as it does to me. Beat you in a way that leaves no doubt who the winner is when it's over. First comes the embarassment of you losing a match you've been screaming is in the bag, to someone you don't think is worth anything. Then I can worry about kicking you when you're down. Hate me, blame me, despise everything I stand for...
I don't have to do anything else, you're already starting to crack.
I can see it behind your eyes. Behind the front you're putting up. All those tough words, but look at you Charlie. Sitting there, outside my house, showing off all this 'true power'. You think I'm affected by noise? This crap hasn't affected me a bit. I left and came back three times already, and yet, your foreman saw nothing. Why is that?
I'm a ghost..
A phantom..
The image in your nightmares.
That's where you're wrong Charlie. Just 'being' the World Champion doesn't make you special. There have been plenty of guys who managed to win that belt. It's about how. Having that strap means one thing.. you're the best..
For right now...
And I'm going to rectify that. How can you teach me anything, if showing the cracks in your defenses was this easy? How can you show me how to be the villain, if all the tricks you have are the same tired ones that have been tried on me forever? Please tell that this isn't the best you have..
True power indeed..
Where'd you learn that? Jake Conways "Heel for Dummies" book...not the best resource of information kiddo.
(The camera panned back, and we found that Falcon wasn't laying in some therapists office, pouring his heart out while she took notes. He was in just a room, but now, a man stared down at him. Long time viewers would recognize the face as "Mr. Showtime", and not that lame Holliday guy.)
Mr. Showtime: I hated you.. hated everything you stood for. I wanted not only to see you gone, but to erase everything you've ever stood for. Always have to be the white knight, the paragon of justice.. what the hell made you judge and jury?
Falcon: What made me judge and jury, Jon? How many times have I been right when everyone told me I was stupid? How many times have I had to hide my disdain behind another I told you so? People don't want to listen to me, fine, I'll make them.. with a clenched fist if I have to..
Mr. Showtime: Like you have the right to tell people how to live..
Falcon: Yea? Stop me...
(Suddenly the form shifted, into Zelda.)
Zelda: You look pretty stopped to me...
Falcon: Oh, because I'm not groveling at your doorstep for you to return to me? You made your bed Zelda:, go lie in it... for your sake, I hope Rob is sincere as he says he is.
Zelda: You're just mad he gives me what I crave...
Falcon: Like you even know what you want.. you're more indecisive than Brett Favre. Run along little girl, I don't have time for your games anymore.
Zelda: Just wait until Charlie crushes your hopes..
Falcon: Just wait until I leave him bleeding to death.. then you can cry your pretty little eyes out for him. Maybe you can even earn him another title shot. That's why he wants you around...
Zelda: You don't even know him..
Falcon: Oh, I don't? Wait... I'm always right.
(The form shifted again, into Serenity.)
Serenity: Except about me...
Falcon: Oh, I'm sorry I didn't have you pegged as a manipulating whore.. what do you want, a medal?
Serenity: No.. I wanted exactly what I got..
Falcon: What, to watch two guys beat the hell out of each other because they both thought you cared?
Serenity: No.. to watch you take your rightful place.. you've been playing fair in a game where everyone takes all the advantages they can get.. been trying to teach honorless curs how to do things the right way. It's time to stop playing, Kyle.
Falcon: This was your big lesson? You needed to try and give me happiness just to rip it away, just for this?
(She shrugged.)
Serenity: There was no other way..
(Falcon suddenly stood up. The camera panned over to reveal all three figures standing there.)
Falcon: Well, be careful what you wish for.. now there's no safe zones, now there's nowhere to hide. You wanted to push me past my breaking point..
(Falcon started walking away, and we realize that his therapy couch was actually just a bench on a street. And his 'therapist' was an expired parking meter.)
Falcon: Job well done... now you're all dead... starting with one Charlie Velez...
Nobody sees what I'm trying to do here. You all look, but you don't really see. You want to just label me the bad guy, and it's just not that simple. It never really is, not with this business. If I'm suddenly the villain, does that make Charlie the hero? Why? What has he done other than try to cheat and scam his way through life? You heard him.. he'd do "whatever" it took to win the World title. It didn't matter if it was by bending the rules for himself, trying to make you believe he was the one who was wronged. It didn't matter that in the breath before he told everyone how he was the greatest wrestler to step foot through the ropes, conviently forgetting to mention that he's always had people willing to help him cheat. You want to hate me... fine. But let's not start praising him just because he's not me.
Let's just say one of us is the lesser of the two evils.
And his initials aren't C.V. I didn't sit back one day and plot this course out, this is just the way things happened. I'm not going to apologize for doing what I thought was right. I tried to save a naive little girl from making a huge mistake, but even I can't overcome the temptations she was facing. This was my path.. and though I did not know where it would lead, I made up my mind to follow it to its end from the first footstep I layed upon it. If that means doing things I might look back on and wince, then that's simply what I'll do. Because I'm man enough..
To deal with the reality of life...
