I'm glad that's how you feel Jack. I'm glad you feel like we're going to put on the best match on the card. I'm glad because I know that's what's going to happen.
Those people, the idiots who pay the ridiculous cost of tickets, that are out there in that crowd are going to go crazy at every single move you make. Very well they should too. You're there hero. You're the long forgotten original member of the roster who was once the kid that everyone knew was just bound to be a break out star. You were the one all the young guys in the back looked at and knew that they could do it. You're the one all those old guys in the back looked at and thought that that was them once. You had all the talent, all the skill, and all the fire that anyone ever needed to make it. Now I don't know what happened to you to extinguish that fire and make you start back from square one but it happened and now here you are, working your way back up and again everyone feels that way about you.
You're that scrappy underdog Jack. You're the one that everyone wants to root for but deep down they know you probably won't pull it out. Should they think that? Probably not. You are after all a two time National Champion. You are younger then me and everything I was at your age. You are the same age I was when I shocked the world and beat the World Champion. So maybe they shouldn't think all that, but none of that changes the fact that they do. Nothings going to change the fact that everyone is looking at you as an underdog. Do I look at you as an underdog? I don't know anymore. All I'm looking at you as right now is my opponent. The one I have to beat to break this losing streak I have going and this streak I have of not having a single successful title defense. All I look as you as is the man I have to beat to change everything.
Venom is sitting alone on a fancy couch in the middle of this stage. He has a fake smile plastered on his face as the spotlight is shinning bright on him on the stage. The studio audience is applauding as the show comes back from its first commercial break and the overhead announcer begins to speak.
"Venom, your life in wrestling began when this man came to scout talent at a college wrestling tournament. He spotted you and soon knew he needed to recruit you for the wrestling federation he was working for. Little did he know he had discovered a future World Champion and Light heavyweight master. Management then brought you up and had you dress up as his side kick and spitting image. Venom, do you know who this man is?"
The camera now split screens to a shilloete of the man described and Venom just chuckles.
"Of course I do. What kind of --- hole would I be if I didn't remember my first Pro Wrestling Mentor? Should I have said --- on this show? Oh well, it's Scorpion."
The curtain raises and out walks a man with medium long black hair, black pants, a suit coat on over his wrestling tights, and full face pain... He walks over and Venom stands up and shakes him firmly by the hand. Both men sit down.
"Boy, I remember when you were just a scrawny nineteen year old kid with dreams of one day being a star. Look at you now."
"Yeah, I've grown up and changed a bit. You though...you haven't."
"Nope, still following the Boss around the country when he tours and just living the dream."
Venom laughs. Long ago Scorpion lost a little of himself after to many blows to the head and was remoulded as a man who loved Bruce Springsteen and a good day of fishing. He snapped back to reality one day but soon realized how much fun it was to not have a care in the world and continues "living the gimmick." Now here he sits with his one time protege running down memory lane.
"Scorps man, it's been a long time. I still remember they day I was called up to be your side kick. It was the best day of my life."
"I remember it too. You were my greatest find. I brought a lot of guys through the ranks but not a single one achieved what you did. When you got up though we were worried about you though. You were so green and wanted to do everything Extreme."
Venom cracks a small smile thinking about it. It seems like so long ago.
"You won and lost that Junior Heavyweight Championship almost as fast as you won it."
"Yeah, I'm having a little bit of that problem now."
"You're not worried about that are you? It's not whether you win or lose Championships V. It's how you carry yourself that makes you a true Champion and I hope you never forget that."[/i][/color]
Venom lets that sink in a little and they continue to have small talk about the past for the crowd but we for now, cut away.
I don't know if you realize this Jack, but I've been where you are right now. I've been the over hyped returning wrestler trying to recapture his former glory. When I was on top of the world as the World Champion I wasn't just the World Champion, I was the face of an entire company. I won the Tag Team Championships with Velez in September that year and won the World Championship in November without losing the Tag Belts. Me and Charlie dominated the ring together and in singles and I was a double Champion for months before we finally lost the Tag Titles. I did things no one ever though could be done, beat people no one thought I could ever beat, and was in matches no one ever imagined before I became the "Main Event" of the company. I at one point held three Championships at one time. It was only for a short time before I was finally defeated for the World Championship later that night, but that was the only time it happened and it never happened again. When all was said and done and I lost that last Championship I won the night I lost my World Title, I went eleven months with some sort of gold around my waist. I was the face of the entire company and I crashed and burned.
I couldn't handle it anymore. Physically and mentally I just broke down and I had to take a few months off to recover. I came back and of course I immediately made a splash by costing the man who beat me for the World Championship that same title and ruining my best friend and Brother-in-law's own return by tossing him off of a landing and breaking his damn neck. To say I made a splash would be an understatement.
I wasn't the same though. I had an epic feud with Hardcore Harry that I ended up the winner of, but not until be beat me until I couldn't move anymore. I had a few great matches with a man known now as Alex Jones. I even made my way back into the main event for the World Championship, but I wasn't the same person anymore. I couldn't handle the spotlight anymore and I had become nothing more then a Tag Team and Junior Heavyweight specialist. I became afraid of the spotlight and ran from Main Event challenges unless someone I trusted was involved. I wasn't the same person, and when my best friend came back for his revenge after months of rehabilitation, he nearly killed me and nearly ended my career. I haven't been the same since, but now though, I think I'm getting close.
Scorpion is gone when we come back and Venom looks a little happier to be here now. He sits again on the couch, still looking a little uncomfortable in the spotlight as again the magical voice speaks overhead.
"You wanted nothing more then to have fun with your career and seen what you called 'A bunch of comic book sci fi nerds" doing just that and you had to join them. This was one of the many groups you were a part of in your career and when you finally decided to secretly join this group you became a nerd just like them. Nerds sometimes with the battles and while you were with these 'Nerds' you won a Championship and had a huge match on the biggest show of the world. Venom, do you know this duo?"
The silhouette shows up and it has two figures. One tall and one short, really short. Venom laughs again as he speaks.
"That's gotta be two members of Team Tron."
The curtain comes up and there stands Sho-Gun Tron and Mini-Tron. They quickly pose for the crowd and then look all around.
"In the name of Bongo Mini, I have no clue where we are. We were lured here with promises of finding our fellow Tron, Saber, but all I see is a pro wrestler from the PAST whose name is told of in the history books of the FUTURE!"
"Indeed Sho-Gun. I haven't the slightest idea what would bring us here to the PAST if Saber-Tron is not here."
Venom looks a little confused as the magical announcer begins to speak.
"Cut the gimmick for a minute guys. We all know that Venom..."
Venom jumps up and cuts the announcer off.
"That I am the one that can lead you to Saber-Tron. The two of you need to head to the arena where the New Championship Wrestling Pay Per View is being held and there you will find Saber-Tron."
"There we must go. The fate of the FUTURE depends on it!"
Sho-Gun and Mini-Tron quickly move off stage as Venom sits back down with a huge smile on his face. The crowd seems like they don't understand what just happened and the announcer decides it's time to move on and there is not someone else silhouette on the screen.
"This man was your greatest nemisis and greatest ally over your entire career. You broke his neck on two occasions and he nearly ended your career twice as pay back. You've won countless tag team matches by his side and we couldn't afford to get him on the show."
Venom looks confused by the last part but obviously knows who it is.
"It's Charlie."
The curtain raises and a card board cut out of Charlie Velez is on the stage. The crowd boos and Venom stands up.
"Whose running this stupid thing? Will someone other then camera men show there freaking face? This is the worst damn show I've ever been on. You bring out my former mentor, then you nearly ruin the gimmick for the Tron's, and to top it off you can't even get anyone on the show to be my big last surprise. This is bull----! I'm out of here."
Venom walks off stage as the 'This is your life' logo flashes on screen and we fade away from the show.
I'm back Jack Manson. I'm back to the peak I was once at. I am back to being the 'Main Event' that I once was. Sure, I'm not winning World Championships yet, but the whole world seen what I can do in that Riot match. If Falcon's feet were one size bigger I would be facing Charlie this week for the World Heavyweight Championship. I was literally a toe away from being the number one contender for the Gold. Sure, I'm on a two match losing streak right now, but in the past losing two matches would have me doubting myself and telling myself maybe it is time to sit it down. Now though, losing two matches just makes me more and more focused on winning my next match to prove all the nay sayers wrong.
I am the 'Main Event' Jack, and that alone is the reason I think. No, better still, that is the reason I KNOW that I can and will beat you on Sunday. Should I count you out? No, I should never count out a man who has accomplished so much in a company, but that belief in myself makes me feel like there is no way you can defeat me. Some people call it cocky, but I just call it confident, and a mentor of mine taught me a long time ago that you can never go anywhere in life if you don't believe in yourself.
That's why I don't need the backing from the crowd. Sure, I need there energy, but I don't need them to believe in me. That one reason is why I don't need to fly my wife and kids in to every single show. I know they believe in me, but having them here watching me shorten my life span isn't going to help me win a match as much as the belief in myself will. I don't need anyone's support when I've got this much belief in myself Jack, and right now, I believe in myself more then I have in years.
That's good news for me Jack, but bad news for you. Should you just lay down for me though? No, because like it or not, we both still need to feel that high. Win or lose we both want to hear that roar of the crowd. Whether we go for twenty minutes in that ring or an hour, we need to feel the energy from that crowd. Win or lose, if we get that high that we're both looking for, we're going to have to go it again some day. Win or lose, Jack Manson is going to have to lock up with me one more time.
So it's all about the ring now Jack. It's all about me and you and a shiny belt of gold. Can you finally break through that funk thanks to the fire that I've lit under your ass? Can I finally shake the fact that I've never successfully defended a Championship here? Neither of those questions can be answered until after me and you are done in that ring on Sunday night. I hope you really are ready to bring full force because I know I am. See you Sunday Jack, and again in the future.
Those people, the idiots who pay the ridiculous cost of tickets, that are out there in that crowd are going to go crazy at every single move you make. Very well they should too. You're there hero.
