We're backstage, moments after Paul Star's match against Ricky Johnson. The camera is on Paul Star, who is making his way back to his locker room following his match. Paul looks pleased with himself, a beaming smile and a spring in his step gives that away. Paul turns a corner, and nearly walks into NCW interviewer Jason Dunn. Paul is startled by this, and shouts something quite unusual.
" Jinkies! "
Jason raises an eyebrow as Paul looks down at him.
" Did you just say jinkies? Isn't that from Scooby Doo? "
Paul shakes his head vigorously, and attempts to explain himself.
" Erm, no! I said... Hello Dunn...? "
Dunn is pretty sure Paul said jinkies, but decides to leave it.
" Whatever Paul. I'm actually quite glad that I've run into you like this, as I want to ask you some questions. "
Paul is in a good mood, so decides it wouldn't hurt to answer a few questions.
" Sure, why not. I'm in no hurry, and I'm up for some bragging. "
Paul steps to one side so that the camera can see both his and Dunn's faces at the same time.
" First up, well done on your win this evening. It wasn't the best match I've seen, but at least you can say you won it. How do you feel the match went? "
" Obviously, I feel it went great. I don't agree with you about it not being the best though. Every match I've been in recently has been a crowd pleaser. Even the match where I lost to Rob Diamond was a great match. The match I just won was even better. Both me and Ricky got our fair share of the offence, and we both had good chances to win the thing. Obviously I had the better chances, because I came out of it with the victory, but I can't say a bad word about the way Ricky wrestled. He did exactly what I expected him to do, go out there and wrestle hard. He may have been a bit of a douche to me late last week, but I can forgive that. He was just getting me fired up, and it worked. He may have fired me up a bit more than he expected though. By the closing moments of the match, he couldn't keep up with my pace, and that's when it happened. That's when I hit the TTLS and got the three count, just like I said I would. "
Dunn fires out his follow up question quickly, giving Paul hardly any time between questions.
" Do you think Ricky Johnson will bounce back from this loss, or is this the start of a downward spiral for him? "
" Ricky's a fighter. This loss won't hurt him that much, and he'll be back to his winning ways at Crossroads. Go go Ricko! "
Dunn moves things along with another question, this time about Ander Carvetti.
" One wrestler who seems to have been hurt quite badly by a loss against you is Ander Carvetti. Why do you think he won't let it go? "
Paul listens to Dunn's question, taking it in and really thinking it through before giving his answer.
" Dr. Dull is a pathetic individual. He's dwelling on things that happened well over a month ago. He's been told to let it go, but he won't. Even after I beat him one on one without any interference, he still thinks he has what it takes to beat me. If Ander wants another singles match, he knows where to find me. Ander can bring it, but he'd best not expect anything different from what happened a couple of weeks ago. He's just not good enough to beat me one on one, and that's been proven without a doubt. Next question Dunny boy! "
Dunn rolls his eyes, not happy about what Paul just called him.
" It's just Dunn. "
Paul grins cheekily.
" OK just Dunn, ask me something else. "
" Right, let's move on from last week and look to the future. What is next for Paul Star? Do you have any plans for Crossroads? "
Paul shrugs his shoulders, unsure of what he is doing next.
" I have no idea. It'd be nice to have a match at Crossroads, but I'd be happy to wrestle on Wired. Right now, I just want to string together more wins, and impress the NCW big wigs. If I can do that, then hopefully there'll be a title shot somewhere down the line. I guess I'll just have to wait and see what's been planned for me at the Pay Per View. "
Dunn is satisfied with this answer, and with no more questions to ask, decides to wrap the interview up.
" Thanks for your time Paul. "
" No probs. Others have told me that you're a bit of a douche, but you seem OK to me. "
Dunn's eyes widen in astonishment of Paul's comment.
" Oh, is that right. Who are these others? "
" Pretty much the whole NCW roster. Anyway, I'd best be going. Laters gator! "
Paul walks out of the cameras view, leaving Dunn alone. Dunn looks at the camera.
" Am I a douche? "
The camera moves up and down, as if the person behind the camera was nodding their head. The scene fades on Dunn, who is saying some harsh words to the cameraman which are all getting bleeped out.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The scene opens on Paul Star in his living room. Once again, we catch him on his mobile phone. Does this man live on that thing? Nah, he's just talking to an old friend quickly before he gets down to business.
" What?? I'm in what match? How on Earth did you find that out before I did? "
Paul stays quiet and gives the person on the other end of the line a chance to explain.
" OK, I got half of that. This stupid network has a terrible signal in my apartment. You say you got the information off the NCW Website, yeah? Well they could have told me first! Anyway, who am I against? "
Paul pauses, and tries his best to hear the name which is said. He then repeats it, but completely wrong.
" Todge Killingham? That sounds pretty painful. "
Paul listens once again, trying to make out what's being said.
" Huh? Rodd... What? OK, calm down! Say it one more time, but really clearly and really loud. "
Paul pushes the phone hard onto his ear, because that'll really help him make out what's being said... Hang on a minute, it does!
" He's... Oh! HE'S TODD WILLIAMS! "
Paul lets out a relieved sigh, as he finally knows what the person on the other end was saying when he had to repeat himself.
" That's great news mate. Thanks for informing me... Yeah, you too Alex. I'll speak to you later. BYEEEEEEE! "
Paul removes the phone from his face, and it takes a moment for the indentation he made while pushing the phone on his cheek so hard to disappear. He presses a button on the phone then slips it into his pocket. Paul turns to face the camera, and smiles.
" So yeah, I just received some great news. At Crossroads this weekend, I have myself a great match. It's going to be me against TODD WILLIAMS! I don't know what it is Todd, but I have the urge to shout whenever I say your name for some reason. Anyway, it's me against you, one on one, and we'll be fighting for number one contendership for the X Championship. Last year Crossroads was a great Pay Per View for me, as it was there that I won my first title in NCW. I had a great match against Andrew Jacobsen, and eventually I picked up the win and got my hands on the X-Division Championship. That was a proud moment in my wrestling career, and this years Crossroads is nearly as big for me and you alike. This years Crossroads offers me the next best thing to a title match, a number one contenders match. It's for number one contendership for the X Championship as well, which is the title that the X-Division Championship evolved into. You have no idea how much I want to hold that title, but you'll find out this weekend. Enough about the belt for now though. Let's talk about you. Let's talk about TODD WILLIAMS! *** damn it! I wish I could stop doing that... "
Paul stops for a moment to compose himself. He takes a deep breath in, then exhales. Paul nods, and goes on from where he left off.
" You and I have both done very well in NCW recently. Last week you shocked the majority of NCW fans by defeating an NCW legend, much like I did. My win was less of a shock though, as plenty of people thought I had what it took to beat Ricky Johnson, and they weren't wrong. You though, you beat Spyke in a match where you looked like you were about to be defeated yourself, but then came back somehow and picked up the pin fall victory. Well done you, for a very big win. The week before that, you and your wife took on Venom and Zelda of The Young Guns. You didn't win, but you wrestled well even with a partner you have some real problems with. Kudos to you for your good performance, but it was nothing compared to what I did that very same weekend. I took on the angry dwarf, otherwise known as Dr Dull, but more commonly known as Ander Carvetti. While you were watching your wife getting pinned by a girl, which I must say was a great sight for many of the teenage lads who watch NCW, I was beating Ander all over the ring. I won mine, and you lost yours. Like I said though, you wrestled well despite the loss. "
Paul has a break from speaking to think through what to say next. He's bored of reminiscing over matches of the past few weeks. He wants to go back further.
" Hey TODD! Do you remember when you first came to NCW? Do you remember your match against my mate, Shane Hunt? I just remembered that match, and the way Shane destroyed you in a matter of minutes. Shane and me are on good terms again, and I look forward to discussing that match with him. He'll be able to give me an insight into the way you wrestle, and your biggest weaknesses. Shane was able to expose those weaknesses, those chinks in your armour. I'll soon know those weaknesses, and then I'll be able to take advantage of them as well. "
Paul grins at the camera confidently.
" It's all about winning the gold for myself, and for my awesome fans. I'll do anything to win against you, and get my shot at the X Championship. I've been on a great roll to earn myself this opportunity, and nobody is going to stop me now. Not you, not Ander, not anyone! The Star Gazers want to see that belt around my waist, and you won't stop me giving my fans what they want. At Crossroads I will beat you and become the number one contender for the X Championship, and when I get my shot at the title, I will win it! Rob only just beat me last time around, but next time he won't be so lucky. I'm thinking ahead too far though. Before I talk anymore about Rob Diamond, I'm going to secure my shot at his title. TODD! You, me, in that ring this weekend. There'll only be one winner, and you're looking at him. The only shot you'll receive any time soon is a shot from me, a head shot! It's TTLS all the way baby! KAPOW! "
Paul gives his signature smile, followed by a thumbs up as the camera fades to black.
" Jinkies! "
Jason raises an eyebrow as Paul looks down at him.
" Did you just say jinkies? Isn't that from Scooby Doo? "
Paul shakes his head vigorously, and attempts to explain himself.
