I bought this DVD the other day, and there's only one word I can use to describe it:
Dissapointing.
Now, the DVDs play like the Ric Flair DVDs
Formula=Segment-Match-Segment-Match
Segment: Following the intro, Austin talks about the start of his career, and then up to him tagging with Brian Pillman. Which leads to the first match of the DVD:
Match1:The Hollywood Blonds vs. Dos Hombres
It's a cage match, Steve is already balding, and Dos Hombres is quite possibly the worst kept secret identity since Mr. America (although techincally it's before Mr. America) Since the announcers tell you that it's Ricky Steamboat and Shane Douglas.
Segment: Austin/Pillman split.
Match 2: "Stunning" Steve Austin vs. "Flyin" Brian
Austin is now managed by Col. Tom Parker (Tennesee Lee later in life) Austin and Pillman have good chemistry both as a team and as opponents, this match proves it.
Segment: Austin liked working with Ricky Steamboat. Austin begins to wonder about why he's stuck in the mid card, And wonders what he's missing. Ricky Steamboat says: "nothing, you've got all the tools"
Match 3: "Stunning" Steve Austin vs. Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat
Austin shining as a singles Star. He works with Steamboat very well.
Segment: Austin gets fired from WCW. He says that literally the next day, Paul heyman calls him and asks him to work for WCW.
Match 4: Austin does the "Steve-a-mania" promo
Segment: Austin talks about how Paul Heyman coached him to talk. Austin would ask Paul what he wanted him to talk about, and Paul would say "Steve, talk about anything" Steve thanks Paul for the freedom to get stuff of his chest.
Match 5: Austin does the "Nobody can hold back Steve Austin now" promo Probably the best Austin "pre-stone cold" promo ever done. After he's finished with it, the camera cuts back see all the ECW locker room is watching the promo.
Sandman: That **** was BAAAAD!
Segment: Austin talks about the couple of matches he had during his stint in ECW.
Match 6: Steve Austin vs. Mikey Whipwreck vs. The Sandman
Austin beats up Mikey for the first 20 minutes before the Sandman ever appears. Sandman shows up, and enters the fray.
Segment: Austin talks about getting called to WWE. He cut his hair, gets Ted Dibiase as a manager and the name "The Ringmaster" he hates the name. He talks about Savio Vega being a good worker. and the Strap match incident where the lights blew out and they had to wrestle in the dark, then the re-did the match two days later. Austin says he was hoping that the lights didn't go out again, because he couldn't do three strap matches, he and Savio were killing each other.
Match 7: Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Savio Vega (Strap Match)
This is where the lights stay on. And it was pretty awesome.
Segment: The birth of Austin 3:16. Since Ted was gone, Austin was alone, and says he was not supposed to win KOTR '96. People had gotten hurt and Austin was given the spot. He says he came up with Austin 3:16 right when he came back from the hospital that night when he got 17 stitches in his mouth. Austin rides the wave that night. Which goes into Austin vs. Bret Hart. Austin says he was flattered that Bret chose him to work with on his comeback match.
Match 8: Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Bret "Hitman" Hart
Survivor Series 1996. Austin and Bret work magic in the ring.
END OF DISC 1
EXTRAS:
THE NAME: Steve talks about coming up with the name "Steve Austin" he used to wrestle under the his given name Steve Williams, but had to change it because the territory he was coming into "Dr. Death" Steve Williams has just come through. Dutch Mantell says he has to go by a different name, and suggests "Steve Austin" Austin says no, because it's a ripoff of the six-million dollar man TV show. Dutch tells him to think of one, giving him an hour. Austin can't come up with one, so he's stuck with Steve Austin. Thanks for not coming up with anything, Steve.
MATCH: Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Yokozuna
Summerslam '96. Both Yoko and Austin NEVER hit the ropes during this match, uncluding when Austin is trying to knock yoko down with Clotheslines. It's just to make the ending special.
SEGMENT: Shotgun Saturday Night. Steve Austin is commentating with Vince and JR. Terry Funk is in the ring. Funk talks about Royal Rumble '97. Austin cuts him down with awesome one-liners. Funk tries to beat up Todd Pentengail or however you spell his name. Funk calls out Austin. Funk uses crazy language calling Vince a "Yankee" and JR: An "Oaklahoma Asshole." Austin and Funk get into it.
