Everybody has a different motivation in life. Some people are motivated by the smiles on the faces of the people around them, living for the happiness of others. Some people can be pressed into action by fear, always waiting for that axe hanging above them to fall down and catch them unawares. Some people are motivated by greed, always wanting more. Two things motivate Rob...
Pride..
He hates being told he can't do something.
And Anger..
Wanna see Rob Diamond choke a bitch? Piss him off.
I'd like to say I always knew this. But to be honest, even if I was sure, I doubt I would have had the heart to go after Rob. But why, you ask? If Charlie Velez was such a villain, why does Rob get a free pass even though he's also a arrogant ball of douche?
One word..
Remorse...
(Falcon was sitting at Rob's bedside. Rob himself was unconcious, laying in the bed, attached to all sorts of machines. There are other people in the room, but in the context of this promo, they don't mean anything.)
People wondered why I came here. Rob hated me with a passion like no other. He tried to end me, tried to use my name and my legacy to build his own. I should have wanted him to succeed, instead of ending up here.
(Someone in the room says something, Falcon looks up and nods, then back down at Rob.)
But I don't hate him. I can't. People always try to justify hatred by saying he's a selfish dick who will never amount to anything. How he's just like Velez, or any of the other people I've quested after to get rid of. But Rob...[/i]
(Rob looked like he was about to awaken, and Falcon sat up. But Rob slumped back and so did the man in the chair.)
Rob's different..[/i]
(A nurse came into the room, checking some of the equipment. Falcon didn't even bother to look up.)
I see so much character in him, behind the selfish dickishness. Behind the wall of hate and apathy.. There's the heart of a machine.. an undying will that refuses to quit.. refuses to die.. Rob may be different then Charlie Velez...[/i]
(Someone came into the room, and Falcon stood up. He was having a silent conversation, his voiceover carrying across.)
He may be young...He's different than most.. gifted.. sainted.. ascended.. [/i]
(Falcon turned and left the room, the fade showing someone replacing him in the chair, watching over Rob.)
He's one of us...[/i]
That's sort of the jist of it Rob. People have given me a hundred reasons, some good, some bad, to hate you and everything you stand for. But I can't. In fact, I won't. Because no matter what everyone else tells me..
I believe in you.
I always have. Even when you walked away from me. Even when you tried to end me. Even now as you relish in the fact that I'm in pain and you have everything that I want. I believe in who Rob Taylor is.
I know all these lectures look like meddling. They look like I'm just trying to make you into a little clone of me and whatnot. But that's never been the case.
I don't want you to be me.
I want you to be better.
I always have. Competition only improves with time. The next generation will always find some way to be better than the last. Faster, stronger, more resiliant to pain and resistant to injury. It's always just been my belief that you should learn the lessons of the mistakes of those before you, before you have the chance to repeat them. And that's always what I've tried to do with the people I've 'messed with'.
Steve. Hammond. Nelly. You especially.
Sure, I talk. I lecture. But have I ever actually stopped you? Anytime you cheated, kicked someone in the nuts, was I out there trying to prevent it? No. I wanted you to figure this out on your own. To understand that sometimes you need someone to point out the fork in the road before you get there. Now.. I think you have.
And look at where we are.
I'm proud of you.
(Falcon was in the green room at an nCw sponsored charity event. Most of nCw was in attendance, the proceeds of this event going to Japan to help try and avert their nuclear crisis. The atmosphere was civil, people forgetting their hatred for one another for a day to keep this event fun for the fans and drama free.)
Spyke: Hey, amigo.
(Falcon looked up to see.. Spyke, taking the seat next to him.)
Falcon: Sup, Mike...
Spyke: Eh, just going to get my name back.
Falcon: I'm amazed you put up with that for this long.
(Spyke shrugged.)
Spyke: Wasn't much I could do.
(Falcon nodded, and they both sat there in silence. Each staring ahead with his own thoughts. It was Spyke who eventually broke the silence.)
Spyke: So, it comes down to you and Rob.. huh...
Falcon: Yea.
Spyke: Can't say I saw this coming.
Falcon: I'm amazed it took this long.
(Spyke looked at him, quizzically.)
Spyke: Come again?
Falcon: Truth is.. I was expecting this a lot sooner.
Spyke: You mean.. back then..?
(Falcon nodded.)
Spyke: Those were the days huh..
Falcon: Yea.
Spyke: Where do you think he went wrong?
Falcon: Rob?
(Spyke nodded.)
Falcon: Who said he went wrong?
You know Rob, you're right.
You always have been. I screwed up. I'm lamenting and all that sad depressing stuff everyone keeps talking about.
What would you like me to do?
I'm not forcing you to care, or notice. You spent countless hours making fun of people like Alex and Everyman just because, I'm sorry that sharing my life with people is soo offensive to you.
Sorry, but it isn't going to stop me.
But you know something.
Zelda did all of this.. for your benefit.. not mine.
You are the only one reaping rewards.
You are the only one filling your dreams and ambitions now.
And I'm keeping her in power.
I was the one who suffered so you could dream.
No, Rob. You're welcome.
But now here's the rub, you have to get by me. I know you said you want to, and I do believe you. But it's not as simple as just saying it. Ours is a storied history, one which can end either way at any time. And we both know it.
If you can understand that, your dreams might just come true.
If you can't..
You may be forced to dream a little longer.
I'll be waiting here...
Either way.
