Early Sunday evening, and Paul Star has just arrived at the FedExForum arena in Memphis, Tennessee. Walking beside him as he enters the back entrance of the arena is his girlfriend, Jennifer Hunt. The couple are holding hands as Paul stops and looks around, taking in his surroundings. There isn't much to see, just a generic looking corridor that leads toward the locker rooms. Paul smiles, and speaks to Jennifer in an upbeat tone.
" Another arena, and another chance to shine. Ain't that right babes? "
Jennifer nods, agreeing with Paul.
" Yes Pauly. You've got a lot to prove tonight, and I know you'll do great out there in the ring. "
Paul points down the corridor, signalling that he wants to go to his locker room.
" Let's go. I want to get settled in and get my final preparation done for my big match. "
Paul and Jennifer start walking again, heading down the corridor. They take a turn left at the end of the corridor where it splits in two, and are met by another corridor, this time lined with closed doors down both sides. Each door has a sign on, with a wrestlers name penned onto it with black marker. As the couple slowly make their way down this corridor, Paul looks at the doors on the right, while Jennifer keeps an eye out on the left. Four doors down, and Paul the door he's looking for. The sign on the door reads " Paul Star " in capital letters, and is obviously Paul's locker room. Paul stops, and Jennifer is forced to stop as well due to her hand being linked with Paul's. Jennifer looks at the door to the right of herself and Paul.
" Look, it's your name! "
Paul raises an eyebrow.
" Well, or course it's my name. That's my locker room... "
" I hope there's a TV in there. I don't want to sit around doing nothing while you're preparing for your match. You get all serious while you're preparing, and I get bored because you don't talk. "
Paul reaches his free hand out, and strokes Jennifer's arm.
" Sorry about that babes. You know I like to be fully focused on my match though. "
Jennifer smiles at Paul, assuring him that she understands the situation.
" I know. I don't mind really. Anyway, can we go inside now? I don't like standing around in these corridors for too long. They're kinda creepy. "
Paul chuckles at Jennifer, then removes his hand from her arm and places it on the door handle. Just as Paul is about to turn the handle and open the door, Carly Robins enters the scene with a microphone in hand and big grin on her face. Jennifer spots Carly before Paul, and scoffs at Carly's presence. Carly raises the microphone to her mouth swiftly, and speaks into it.
" Paul, can I ask you a few questions? "
Paul is slightly startled by Carly, and spins around to face her. As he does so, his hand releases its grip from Jennifer's. Jennifer doesn't look impressed by this at all, but Paul doesn't notice the expression on his girlfriends face.
" Carly! Damn, you snuck up almost silently. Where on Earth were you hiding? "
Carly motions that she was standing by the door to Paul's locker room.
" I was standing right here when you walked up to your locker room door. Didn't you see me? "
Paul shakes his head.
" Nope, didn't even notice you were there... So, what can I do for you this evening? "
Carly giggles a little as she thinks of the things she'd like to do with Paul, but eventually decides to answers Paul's question seriously.
" Well, I wanted to ask you a few questions about your match tonight, if that's OK? "
Paul nods his head, happy to give Carly a few minutes of his time. Jennifer doesn't care for Carly, so decides to retreat into Paul's locker room.
" I'll leave you pair to it. See you in a minute Pauly. "
Jennifer kisses Paul passionately, as Carly has to stand and watch. Jennifer stops kissing, and steps around Paul to get to the door. She opens the door, and steps through the doorway and into the locker room. She shuts the door behind herself, leaving Carly and Paul to their interview. Carly composes herself, then gets things going with her first question.
" So, how are you feeling about the Coliseum match, now that it's just a couple of hours away? "
" Well Carly, I'm feeling a mixture of emotions. For the most part, I'm excited to have the opportunity to main event Sovereign again. It's a great Pay Per View, and the Coliseum is a huge match to be a part of. Then there's some nerves, but they'll fade while I'm getting prepared for the match, and they'll be completely gone by the time I'm making my entrance and the crowd is cheering for me. Excitement is definitely running high for me right now though, and a can't wait to get out there. By the time I'm in the ring and the cage door is locked behind me, I won't be showing any signs of excitement anymore. I'll feel completely focused, and ready to do my thing. "
Carly takes half of what Paul just said in, but some of his words go in one ear and out of the other. She does notice that Paul has finished answering her question though, and is quick to fire off another.
" You were in last years Coliseum match, and you Wrestled well even though you eventually got pinned. Do you think you'll be able to take your experiences from last years match, and use them to your advantage this year? "
Paul considers the answer to this question to be obvious, but still answers it just out of kindness.
" Of course I will. In last years match I was still an NCW rookie. Yeah, I'd held the X-Division Championship briefly, but I was still rather new to NCW when the Coliseum match rolled around. I've said before that I let the grandness of the match get to me, and that was my downfall. This year, I won't be overwhelmed by the match, and I'll Wrestle a whole lot better due to this. I also know a few tricks, that I learned in last years match. I'll be unleashing those tricks without any notice, and my opponents definitely won't be prepared for them. "
While Paul had been talking, Carly had drifted off a bit and was twirling her hair in her fingers. Paul notices this, and raises his voice to snap her out of her little dream World.
" NEXT QUESTION! "
Carly jumps from shock, then shakes her head and gets on with the interview.
" Very good... How do you feel about your opponents this year, compared to your opponents last year? "
Without any hesitation, Paul responds.
" This year, my opponents are tough. I'd go as far as saying they're tougher than my opponents last year. Don't get me wrong though. all the other Wrestlers who were in last years Coliseum are great at what they do, but this year the other Wrestlers involved seem more focused, and more determined to win the match and earn their title shot. You've got the ex-World Champ Steve Awesome, and the multiple time X-Division Champion Alex Jones, both of whom have been in NCW for a long while. I respect them for everything they've achieved in their time here. They've already proven to everyone in and around NCW that they can get it done on the grandest of stages, and they're now gunning for another bite of the apple. Are they both past it though, or do they have what it takes to win the World Championship and cement their status as NCW legends? I'd go with past it on both counts. It's about time both Steve Awesome and Alex Jones stepped aside, and let the likes of me and... Well, just me have my moment in the spotlight. If they don't step aside soon, they're going to get themselves seriously injured then they'll be forced to give the next generation of NCW main eventers a chance. "
Paul points at himself with both his index fingers, letting everyone know that he's the future of NCW. Meanwhile, Carly is ready with her next question.
" Steve Awesome and Alex Jones may or may not be past their prime, but what about the other three Wrestlers who you'll be against? What do you think about them all? "
Paul thinks briefly about this question, as he wants to say the most he can about Ander, Xander, and Mark without repeating things he's already said about them all.
" Xander may make it in NCW, and he may not. His dad was an incredible Wrestler, and I'm sure he's trained Xander well. Over the past few weeks, I've been in the ring against Xander, and can tell you now that the lad is a beast. Super powerful, and pretty quick to boot. I showed last week though, that his power and considerable speed for his size is no match for me. I ran him ragged, and I was close to pinning him for the big three on a couple of occasions. I told him last week before the six man tag match that his legacy would include two losses against me in two weeks, and I'm now half way toward making that claim a reality. I may not have pinned him, but myself, Steve Awesome, and Mark Evil out-Wrestled him and his two tag partners. Mark Evil was lucky enough to get the pinfall, but like I've said before that doesn't worry me. The thing that mattered the most to me was putting in a solid performance in my last match before Sovereign, and I feel I did just that. So yeah, Xander may be strong and tough and he may eat his Milky Bars, but only the best is good enough and I am the best. "
Paul pauses briefly, allowing Carly to catch up with him. He figures that her brain doesn't take things in as quickly as other peoples, so he has to take time out to let his words soak into her head.
" Mark Evil, the man everyone is calling the underdog, but I don't see how that's so. He earned his way into the Coliseum match, just like everyone apart from Alex Jones. He got the pin for my team last weekend, and he's been on a roll since returning to NCW. I can see Mark being my hardest opponent this weekend, and I'm going to have to pull out all the stops to beat him. I am confident that I can take Evil out, but it'll just take a big effort. I mean, Mark is humongous! He even towers over Xander by a fair few inches, and he has more raw power than Xander could ever dream of having. The man is a giant, and I swear he used to live at the top of a beanstalk before he joined NCW. He's just a man though, all be it a very big man. You know what they say about big men. The bigger they are, the harder they fall. I'll just have to keep on my toes, and do some hit and run. Eventually, the big man will fall, and he'll probably crush little Ander under his hefty weight. "
Paul finds his last comment amusing, but Carly is far too busy looking at her finger nails to care what Paul has to say. She's basically a human microphone stand, but Paul couldn't care less if she's listening or not. He's in the groove now, and really enjoying talking about his opponents.
" Speaking of Ander, he's the last opponent I have to talk about. The last, and very least in stature and Wrestling ability. Ander is, without doubt, the most annoying person I've come across since I joined NCW. He thinks he's all that, but he's nothing special. He's dull, and he can't get the job done in the ring. I've beaten him with a bit of luck in the Tag Team ranks, and I've beaten him with my superior Wrestling skills in singles competition. For way over two months, I've shown him that I'm better than him in every way imaginable, but he still comes out with the same crap about me being more lucky than I am skillful. He goes on and on about my wins against him, and he won't let those matches go and move on. Last weekend I, along with the rest of my team for the weekend, beat him and his team, but I know for a fact that he'll try and make our victory out to be a lucky win, and he'll definitely say how bad I Wrestled. It's the same thing week in, week out. Every week he comes out with the same thing, and I'm sick of listening to his boring rants. This weekend I'm going to take Ander by the back of his head, and I'm going to ram him face first against the cage until his face is so swollen, he won't be able to open his mouth enough to blurt out any more rubbish. I have come to a point where I'm willing to seriously maim Ander, just so shut him up for a while. He's got me feeling like this, and he's going to pay the price for making me want to hurt him so badly. "
Paul has finished talking about his opponents, and is now staring at Carly. He's waiting for her to ask another question, but she's in her own little World again and hasn't noticed Paul's stopped speaking. She's even still holding the microphone up to Paul's mouth. Paul lets out a frustrated sigh, which sounds rather loud as it's projected through the microphone. He decides to end the interview himself. He turns to the door leading into his locker room, opens it, and steps inside. As he closes the door, the banging noise it makes snaps Carly out of her daydream. She moves the microphone to her mouth and speaks into it, at first not realising Paul is gone.
" That's great. So how do you... Oh, where did he go? "
Carly looks around, but there's no sign of Paul. She shrugs her shoulders, not too worried that he's disappeared.
" Oh well, I guess the interview is over. I had more questions, but I guess I'll never find out the answers... "
The camera begins fading on Carly, as she lowers the microphone and stares blanky down the corridor.
" Another arena, and another chance to shine. Ain't that right babes? "
Jennifer nods, agreeing with Paul.
