(We fade in to the sound of a fast skipping noise.)
They said I wouldn’t amount to anything. They said that I would probably lose all of my matches...
(Mercedes Vargas in workout clothes, though we only see her from the waist-up. She is jumping rope at a medium pace.)
Probably become the next Mercedes Lewis....
(She quickens the pace now as the camera frames her in a gym.)
No offense to you, niña.
It’s been two months since I joined New Championship Wrestling and I already have five wins to my name, which includes beating a former Women’s World Champion (stops and holds up two fingers) twice.
(Mercedes starts off slow before increasing her speed, now and again including double jumps and cross overs to her routine.)
To anyone else, I guess it would be something to be proud of, but then, who hasn’t beaten Roxxxie? Some people say it was a huge win. I say it was a warm-up match. Alysson, between the two of us, I think we both know who is having the better career. It was bad enough that you allowed EMF to pin me in the tag match, but with that stunt you pulled on your brother causing him and I to get disqualified the following week, you know what you’ve shown me, Alysson? Not that you’re funny or clever, but it showed me that you were desperate. That you would stoop so low to win a match just makes you… Well, it just makes you pathetic. There is a concept called honor. Of course, you wouldn’t know anything about that now, would you? (hits herself softly on the head) Of course not.
(She slows down before finally coming to a complete stop. Holding the jump rope in one hand, Mercedes reaches down and picks up a water bottle as she takes off the cap and takes a long sip of water, and then cools down pouring the rest of the contents over her head. She flips her hair back.)
They say that in every cloud there’s a silver lining. Well, I don’t know about that, Alysson. There seems to be a black cloud hanging over your head. Things really haven’t been looking up for you lately. Maybe it has a little something to do with, oh, I don’t know…KARMA, BITCH! You see, I spent the better part of Collision watching the main event in the back, and I enjoyed how Chris Gardner continued to screw your team over…and over…and over, before he gave Citizen Kane the worst beating of his life. And speaking of Spike…you will be a part of history at A Night to Remember. Not as the next Honor Champion though, but as a footnote when you join the rank of the fallen after Chris retains his title against you. The moment he beat Brad at Sovereign, thus excising him from NCW forever, should have brought you to realise that you’re in way over your head. Let’s face it, Spike, the closest you’ll ever get in winning the Honor Championship, or any title for that matter, is getting a replica belt off of the NCW merchandise store.
(Leaning on an exercise bike with a white towel around her neck, Mercedes offers a sly smile as she continues.)
Which brings me back to you, Alysson...You know, it just; it just breaks my heart to know that you’ve disowned your brother like this after everything you’ve been through together. He trained and managed you for the better part of your career. Didn’t you both run a wrestling school together? And weren’t you playing in the rock band he managed? Pretty sure I recognised you during the opening act of a concert a few years ago. Anyway, believe it or not, an overwhelming majority predicts that you’ll actually beat me in our match. To be honest, I’m not surprised. In fact, I have to admit, I’m expecting it. That’s just more motivation for me to prove them wrong, overcoming the odds against me. Well, at least Kelly Knite thinks that I’ll win, and anything she says is pretty much taken as the gospel.
(Mercedes presses a few buttons just before mounting the bike as it hums to life..)
Heaven is a state of mind, but hell is a personal place. You think you’re in hell now, Alysson? Oh, you have no idea what “hell” is like. Just imagine what I’m going to do to you at A Night to Remember. Oh, wait. You don’t have to. On March 22, it doesn’t matter whether the fans in Miami cheer or boo you out of the building, as long as they care. Some will clap their hands when they see you coming down that ramp, but once that bell rings, they will just as soon cover their face with their hands; others will turn away. In the end, you’ll be lucky if you’ll still able to walk out of the arena.
You and Spike may have had the last laugh in your match on Collision, but we’ll see who’s going to be laughing after he gets his ass kicked, and after I beat you from pillar to post. Just remember, Alysson...you did this to yourself. We didn't have to go down this road. If only you hadn’t turn on me in our tag match, your life would have been all sunshine and rainbows. I mean, you could have apologized. I’m not that hard to find. You could have called, sent me a letter or e-mail. Facebook, MySpace or even a Twitter, but you didn’t even do that. Well, it’s too late now. If there's one thing you should know about me, it's this: I don't forgive, and I don't forget. No apology is going to get you out of the receipt you’ve got coming at A Night to Remember. And trust me, like the tagline says, it’s sure to be the one night you’ll never forget. I'll make sure of it.
(Mercedes mouths the words "two days, Alysson. Two days" as a reminder of how many days are left until Alysson's fate as the scene fades to black.)
