The scene opens at the Spike Kane School of Wrestling where we see that it has been closed today for a private session and inside the ring we see Alysson Gardner rebounding off the ropes, whirling around the back of Kathleen Conway and applying an Octopus Stretch with some considerable ease, perhaps owing to her experience having many more years in the ring behind her than Kathy.
Kathy has nowhere to go and starts screaming out in pain, much to her husband's dismay as he looks on with a growing concern. Spike is also observing things from the sidelines, but he is shaking his head as if he was disappointed. Jake takes a step forward to help his wife but Spike steps in his way.
Spike: She asked for this....
Kathy starts tapping furiously as Alysson releases the hold and lets Kathy slump to the floor, less than concerned.
Alysson: That was too easy...
Alysson flips her hair back and stares at Jake.
Jake: What the hell was that, huh? I know Kat asked to be shown some submission holds in that ring, but that doesn't mean you had to go straight for the kill...
Spike: Oh Jake, don't tell me you've forgotten our first training session together. Do I need to remind you when I recruited you fresh from the indy circuit and gave you your first big break what happened?
Jake: You tripped me with a drop toe hold and went straight for the ankle lock...
Spike: Too right amigo, and do you remember what I told you whilst I made you feel my Burning Hell?
Jake: I'll never forget it...you said that to be the best in this business, you had to be ready to be baptised by fire...
Spike: That's right my friend...and even after all these years, my training methods haven't changed, they work and they are damn effective and they are the very principles on which this school was founded. Now you came to me and asked me to help Kat improve her style and technique in that ring, and she in turn asked for Alysson to help her brush up on her submission wrestling and together, that's just what we intend to do...unless of course you'd rather have your wife quit now...
Kathy is back to her feet at this point and empathetically shakes her head.
Kathy: NO!
She gestures for Alysson to go again, whilst Spike nods. Alysson and Kathy circle each other, and this time Kathy looks poised to strike.
Spike: Kathleen, the fans call you the Wild Kat don't they? Well I've got to tell you sweetheart, that I'm just not seeing it right now. Pussy cat maybe, but not the Wild Kat. I want to see that aggressive streak I know you've got deep inside of you, I've seen it...I saw it in your eyes before I dropped you on your head...
There it was. My motivation. My entire reason for being here. For doing this. Three years ago I had been caught off guard, trying to help Jake and I had paid a heavy price for it. After being unceremoniously dumped on my head by one simple fluid Spike Impailer, my whole life changed. I will never forget that night or the months I spent following it, lost in the mists of my mind, with the only thing keeping the hounds of madness at bay was one single solitary voice that never gave up on me. A warm hand and an even warmer heart that to this day has never let me go and I hope he never does.
Jake Conway was my rock then, he is my rock now. I know he believes in me when nobody else does, just like Spike believed in him when nobody else would. They all dismissed him as just another pretty boy, not worthy of spit-shining Spike's boots, much less being considered his greatest protege. Everybody laughs at us, nobody sees our love as a strength, they see it only as a weakness. They think he's just a mediocre wrestler who sometimes gets lucky, and they see me only as his mental wife who was delusional enough to consider herself a cat.
It really is sad that people in this business are so jaded to the idea of real love that their first instinct is to ridicule it, to degrade it as some kind of disease. Even this woman before me now, my training partner - not by choice but rather convenience has ridiculed my marriage. She thinks I'm making a career living in his shadow as do most of the Starlets in nCw because none of them can comprehend the depth of our connection because they've never felt it themselves. There is of course an element of the pot and the kettle to Alysson's argument, after all whilst she may be established elsewhere, all I've seen her do is ride the Kane member to recognition here. So I'm not surprised she doesn't understand what real love is - any woman whose entire motivation for being is a simple hatred of her own flesh and blood brother isn't worthy of my respect or admiration. She is only worthy of my pity...
Alysson rebounds off the ropes and on her return, Kathy trips her with a drop toe hold before transitioning smoothly into an ankle lock, having obviously paid attention to the conversation between Spike and her husband, Kathy then grapevines the leg, having it fully locked in and giving Alysson nowhere to go just like Crystal Hilton left her no choice but to tap out last week at Collision.
So this is what it feels like to be in total control of an opponent. To have someone rendered helpless, and at your mercy, this is what it felt like to make someone bow before you. No wonder Crystal enjoyed it so much. I must admit I have missed the ecstacy of being in total control, I haven't felt this good in a while.
The last time I felt this powerful was when I had the comfortable weight of a Glock 9 resting snuggly in its holster pressed up against my hip some years ago. For the first time I truly understood the thrill my husband got from submission wrestling. He prided himself on being a skilled technician in that ring...
Spike: Release! Release Kat! Kat!
My reverie was rudely interrupted by the booming voice of The God of Xtreme, I didn't want to let go, purely because I enjoyed the steadily increasing but subtle panic in his voice as Alysson felt the tide of her luck turn. This time she was the one tapping furiously. I looked over at my husband and saw the trademark grin that won me over in the first place return to his face. My job was done.
My blood was afire as I released her leg and saw her immediately cradle it, I felt my pulse throb in my ears, the animal instinct within me trickled to the surface as I got to my feet and looked over at Alysson who was still cradling her leg.
Kathy: That wassssssss too eassssy...
Kathy hissed at Alysson who looks incredibly confused. She reveled in Gardner's confusion as she left the ring and jumped into the arms of her husband wrapping my arms around him, the couple shared a long passionate kiss as Spike helps Alysson out of the ring.

The scene cuts to a small cafe and outside in the early Spring Floridian sunshine is sat Kathy with her eldest daughter beside her, Solitaire beside her and opposite mother and daughter, a face familiar only to long time fans of nCw - Layla Garcia, better known as the woman who started as a promising interviewer in another company only to fall for Steve Awesome's predictable pick up routines.
It brought a smile to my face seeing Layla here, I hadn't seen her in years, not since she finally came to her senses and dumped Steve. Despite this I had tried to maintain my friendship with her, even whilst my husband and Steve were at each other's throats, primarily because she was still Solitaire's Godmother - my choice - because I figured Steve had finally found a 'keeper' - who knew he'd actually be stupid enough to let her go and hook up with everyone and their mothers - literally!
Layla: So I hear that you're the one who has the wrestling career now, whilst Jake is on a hiatus looking after the kids...
Kathy: Yep. His idea really, I had mentioned to him about getting back in the ring just to see if I could still compete in a division that only formed whilst I was pregnant, so he said he'd step back for a few months at least and let me go at it...
Layla: Wow, you really have changed him huh? I could never do that...change a man I mean...
Kathy: I wouldn't say I changed him, I just chose to look beyond the surface, something not enough people do nowadays. They're perfectly happy to still dismiss him as a parrot with limited facial expressions despite the fact that experience has improved his mic skills considerably and still in spite of all his apparent failings, he's not done too badly for himself in nCw...
Layla: Yeah, I know what you mean...
Kathy: Anyway, any particular reason you're here?
Layla: No, not really. I just stopped by to see my Goddaughter, I knew you guys would be in town for A Night To Remember, just like the rest of the world...
Kathy: You got tickets?
Layla: Yep...you know for old time's sake...

With the apocalypse fresh on everybody's mind thanks to the mindless ramblings of one Harold Camping, it occurs to me that he wasn't entirely wrong. The world as I know it truly has come to an end this week if I'm being forced to put my trust in a woman who willingly markets herself as Gardner's lackey and even more astoundingly as Trent Helms' ex wife and booty call. I knew her standards were low, and she had self-respect issues as all women with her sizeable assets do, but I never figured it was quite this bad. Oh well, as my husband says, you have to play the hand you're dealt, and this week this is what I have to deal with.
Now I'm fully aware of the irony of what I'm about to say here but I really am thankful for the small mercies, that is to say whilst I fully expect a woman who called me a meth-head to not break the habit of a lifetime and end up flat on her back again, even faster than if Trent was in this match, at least she won't be embarrassing me as part of the main pay-per-view, only as a curtain jerking opener on a match streamed exclusively online.
Speaking of curtain jerking, Jade Cortez, allow me to be the first to welcome you to the grand stage here in nCw, enjoy your time here whilst it lasts and no that's not some kind of threat, just an observation that if the sweet little fumbling girl doesn't grow up and grow up fast, you won't survive here very long and after the respect you've shown me I'd hate for that to happen to you girl.
See one thing this business teaches you and teaches you quick is to evolve, change, grow and adapt, I'm married to a man who considers himself The Apex of Evolution because he embraces that ideology as do I - in my hometown of Wichita, Kansas - the very idea of Evolution is snubbed in favour of Creationism, so what my husband represents to me is probably one of the many reasons I love him as much as I do. He was the handsome rogue that swept into my life and in one night, changed everything forever.
Something I'm sure you're hoping for this Sunday Jade given that you've forged an alliance with Rosa, and looking at the two of you I can't honestly say who's helping who, but its obvious both of you need all the help you can get to actually establish yourselves as any kind of real contenders here, and I wish you both luck with that.
It's just a shame that this Sunday Lady Luck won't be on your side.
No, I'm siding with Mercedes, and that means your bad luck just got a whole lot worse, especially when you consider that a few weeks back I defeated Rosa, and since then all she has really done is shift a few masks and inspire female ninjas to follow Steve Awesome around, trying to be his moral compass or conscience, either way Rosa's been nothing but a poster child for lost causes and what's sad about that is neither Jade nor Rosa have realised their Revolution is already over before it even began...
