*Last week*
"The answer is no!"
Leonard Fox beats his hands against his desk to emphasize the point.
"I wasn't asking for permission."
He didn't like that answer. I didn't care.
"Angel, listen to me very carefully. Your neck is messed up three ways from Sunday. It was a miracle you were able to wrestle for three solid months with your neck the way it was last year. Jesus man, anyone else would have been in a wheel chair after that back drop driver last year! When are you going to learn enough is enough!?"
I lean forward in the cushy chair in front of Fox's desk and look him right in his eyes.
"Never."
"Angel, please, listen."
"I have listened, to everything you've said. Trust me Fox, it's all crossed my mind. You don't think I know? You think I've forgotten about my neck, about how messed up it is, how bad this match could go? My neck is the only reason I hadn't challenged him sooner!"
Leo throws his hands up as he sits back in his chair, face palming.
"Angel... Lex Sense is a dangerous man... He's not looking for a simple win... I mean, what you and Alex went thought, that was crazy, but this? The guy wants you gone, Angel! He wants to be able to say he ended your career just like Andrew Jacobsen ended Doc's! Don't you understand that?"
I just shake my head and smirk.
"I appreciate the concern Leo, but Lex is nothing I can't handle. If he wants my career he's going to have to take it over my dead body."
"That seems like an option for him."
"Then we're in luck, because it's a ****ing option for me too."
I stand up and turn to take my leave but Fox speaks up.
"Angel... I can't allow this..."
"What the hell do you mean?"
"I can't allow my General Manager to put his life on the line out there over... Over what? A grudge? A car?"
"It's about more than that Fox."
"Well whatever it's about... I can't have it... If you go through with this match..."
I take a step forward and ball my fist, he will not take this moment away from me.
"If I go through with this match, what? What are you going to do?"
"I'm going to have to ask you to step down..."
I just sneer at him.
"Is that so? Then consider this my resignation."
He looks up, shocked.
"Lex Sense is ****ing mine."
*Now*
"You want the monster Sense?"
No you don't.
"You want the beast within?"
You really don't.
"You want the Angel you worshiped on television?"
You better reconsider.
"Then that is what your going to get."
Because your in for a big ****ing surprise.
"You think my family weakens me? You think simply because I can love another human being that I am some how less of a man than you? Lex, let me ask you a simple math question."
Here's hoping he can add.
"Whats ZERO World titles plus ZERO world titles?"
Long pause, break out the calculator.
"None? Really? Oh, because I've held TWO! Not to mention a legendary tag team title run with Philip Burns and THREE X-Division title runs. Let me ask you this, you won your one and only singles title how?"
This might take him a while to figure out.
"Through D ****ing Q. So Sense, exactly how well is that sacrifice working out for you?"
Hmmm.... Rather well... If you consider losing pretty much every big match your in to be a success.
"Honestly Sense, I walked into this little match with all the respect in the world for you but as the days pass I'm beginning to realize your nothing more than a little piss ant clone trying to be something he's not. Oh your so evil, Oh your so bad ass, Oh look at how Sense has demoralized his ex wife and ignored his child he's JUST so monstrous..."
Pfft
"Sense, let me make this real simple kiddo."
Deep breath and...
"You ARE a joke."
Awww.
"You throw on some face paint, sneer at the little kiddies in the crowd and spew the same tired tripe as every other asshole who has ever walked in the door trying to play the role of the crazy unstoppable monster. Wanna know what happened to the last crazy unstoppable monster, Homeless Harold 1.0?"
Break out the history books.
"Steve Awesome crushed him in the middle of the ring like a ****ing ant."
Lesson one.
"Then I came along, won the World title and big ole Gib decided then was the time to stake his claim. But you know what Sense? I decided I didn't want to face the Icon Gib, I decided the half naked joker wasn't the sort of challenge I was looking for so I RIPPED HIS LIFE TO PIECES and I awoke the monster within... Sorta like you..."
Strange how unoriginal Sense suddenly seems.
"And do you know what happened next?"
Lesson two.
"I KILLED the monster."
Fact.
"I ENDED his career."
Fact.
"I wrestled Homeless Harold/Gib in his last match and I SOUNDLY defeated him to regain the World title."
Fact.
"So let me ask you Lex, while you were wrecking YOUR OWN family trying to turn yourself into MY OWN clone, how many world titles did you win? How many careers did you end? How many legends did you defeat?"
Not a one, correct?
"The difference between you and me isn't my heart, isn't my ability to become the most dangerous man in all of professional wrestling at the drop of the hat..."
More dangerous than you will ever be.
"The difference between you and me is... I know what I am... I accepted what I am a long time ago... And you haven't the slightest ****ing clue."
Just an imitator latching on to anything and everything he can.
"You want to face me to prove something to yourself, to prove that your better? Why? Why do you need to prove yourself against me? Why is it so important to wake up the beast and see how you handle yourself within the confines of my own hell? Because Lex, you so terribly wish to be me, to be better than me. Your not good enough or original enough to blaze your own path so you had to copy cat what you saw. You watched as an evil son of a bitch ripped through an entire roster on his way to the world title and decided to walk in those foot steps. But your journey isn't complete until you have defeated me, is it?"
Tough luck.
"But you can't Lex, you can't defeat me. Hell son, you couldn't defeat either of the brother's Diamond, you couldn't defeat Steve Awesome, you barely held your own against Falcon. What in the hell do you think your going to do to me? I'VE BEATEN THEM ALL! There isn't a man in this promotion who matters that hasn't fallen to Savior X so tell me Lex..."
And tell me the truth.
"WHO THE **** ARE YOU!?"
No body.
"Your a pissed off kid who could be so much more if he'd just stop pretending to be something other than what he is. Your an unstoppable monster? THEN STOP PRETENDING AND BE ONE! Because I've seen you stopped dead in your tracks more than once and honestly Lex, I'm beginning to see the cracks in your armor."
Their all over.
"You want to know why it took so long for me to accept the challenge Lex?"
The truth...
"You. Are. Nothing."
Honestly.
"Like you said, this match means everything to you and nothing to me, because to me, you are nothing more than a piss ant cry baby bitch who can't get over the fact his favorite wrestler isn't the super evil villain he thought he was. Unfortunately Lex two dimensional comic book villain gimmicks only last so long in today's wrestling and in this day and age people like you do not last long against people like me..."
I just grin.
"Because I'm the real deal. I'm the real danger. The real threat. I'm the one thing that can expose you for the lying little **** that you are. And Sunday night, simply because you've asked me so nicely I will expose you."
And it'll be easy.
"Despite all the lies you like to tell yourself, your still just a man with a life, with feelings, with regrets. You wrestle with shadows. You run from those shadows. You hide who you are behind your paint because you do not accept nor do you care for the man you have become. You are afraid of yourself, Lex, of the life you have lived. Me? I'm afraid of one thing, Lex... The day I am unable to step inside that ring again... And I have faced that day... I'm back... Savior X is back..."
It feels good to be back.
"And you are all going to pay."
May God have Mercy on your Soul.
"The answer is no!"
Leonard Fox beats his hands against his desk to emphasize the point.
"I wasn't asking for permission."
He didn't like that answer. I didn't care.
