..::PROLOGUE::..
Mr Evans, I see I struck a nerve with my last promo video. I have seemed to have gotten you all riled up. Flustered a bit? A little hot under the collar even. But you see, even with the sad tale of your childhood, I was still correct in my diagnosis. You see, you took the term "abusive" as to mean physical abuse. It's terribly sad that it was the first thing you thought of, but I can see how in America this is something that goes on so much, its the obvious first thought. But let me give you the true definition of the word, Seth, so you can more easily understand.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ABUSE
–verb (used with object)
1.- to use wrongly or improperly; misuse: to abuse one's authority.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, as you can see, the definition of "use wrongly" can be interpreted in many ways. If you were neglected because of a special needs sibling, forced to sit idly by while he got everything he wanted, including your toys, your gifts and your video games, that, my friend, is abuse. It is quite simply, and sadly,
Neglect!
You see, Seth, you aren't a natural giver, you were forced to give. You were forced by your brother's handicap to give in to his needs. To his desires. But you didn't want to. I bet you laid awake and night wishing he was normal so that you could beat the life out of him for stealing your toys. But he wasn't normal, and you had to conceal all of your frustration and anger because even though he had everything that belonged to you, he was still special. You see, brotherly love only goes so far, Seth. I have a brother myself, and he and I were in scraps all the time as youngsters for the very same things that you could do nothing about. At the end of those fights, there was always respect and love because after all, we were still family. But not for you. No. Not for you at all. You suppressed the anger and frustration to a point that you just swallowed your pride and became a
PASSIVE
LITTLE
LAPDOG!
You gave in and everything you ever wanted, needed, or desired was given then taken away because your brother wanted it. And it was allowed to happen. Not by your parents, Seth. They are partly to blame indeed, but it wasn't solely their fault. The main person to blame in that entire situation
IS YOU!
You had the power to get back what belonged to you. You had the power to control the situation. Or did you? You see, I have worked with many special needs patients in my time, and the one thing that is most easily done with these people is manipulation. You see, their under developed minds are incapable of truly seeing through deception. Now I am not saying it's wrong or right, however, it is a method in which we in the medical community have used to get them to take medicine, calm down, focus on the task at hand, and so forth. Had you been smart enough or clever enough to think of it, all of those things could have been yours. Instead
YOU WERE WEAK!
I have a feeling you won't be any different this week in our match. You talk a big game. You sound like you really want to get things going in the right direction, but ultimately you will fall. That's been your nature from the very beginning. The story of your childhood has proven to me and everyone else watching at home that until you deal with what happened in your childhood, you will never fully become the man you think you are.
However, you say you are a man of your word. Nice story. Not going home and all. But let's be completely honest. We, as professional wrestlers, are on the road all the time. Every week its a new city, a new arena, a new hotel. So was it REALLY that hard not to go back home for seven months? Really? Come on, chap. You have to come up with something better than that to prove you are a man of your word! How about you do what you say you are going to do this week.
BEAT ME.
Beat me, one, two, three in the middle of the ring for the world to see and prove you are a man of your word. You do that, and I will trust you to be a man of your word. But until then, I will think of you only as a man with a hole in his soul so big that nothing can fill it. A man who will talk a big talk but is unable to fulfill the acts he has promised. A man who simply cannot,
AND WILL NOT BEAT ME.
..::SETTING::..
The scene fades in and we see Jonas Potter in his room stretching as he looks into the mirror. His shirt is off, and the bruises on his rib cage and back are a deep purple with yellow spots in the middle. He reaches up and gently touches them. He winces in pain as he does so. The door opens and Phillip Claxton walks in. He sees the heavy bruising and walks over to Jonas.
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
My Gawd! Jonas, you can't possibly still be serious about fighing that man this week. Look at you.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
Yes, I do, Phillip! I am tired of all this talk of sitting out matches. You know I can't do that!
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
Why not?! It's just a wrestling match!
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
NO! It's not just a wrestling match! This is a match on pay per view that will allow me to show the world that I am capable of being the next bright star in the sport.
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
You aren't even on the pay per view, Jonas. It's the pre-show!
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
Symantics!
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
Yeah, what do I know, right? I am not a Doctor. But I am your friend, and as your friend, I am pleading with you not to do this. You are risking some serious permanent injuries.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
Oh Bollocks! Next week is the four year anniversary of New Championship Wrestling. I am sure they will be bringing back all kinds of competitors from the past to put on a show and celebrate. I highly doubt I will be booked. So I will be able to rest up after this match.
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
You are missing the point!
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
No, Phillip! You are missing the point. I am a man of good standing, and when I put pen to paper and sign my name on the dotted line to compete, I fulfill that contract regardless of the circumstances. Do you not think I know the risks involved? I knew the risks the day I started training for this profession!
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
But..
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
No! No buts! I have competed all over the world for this chance. This opportunity to prove that I belong in the best company around. This is the pinnacle of success in this industry and I won't let an opportunity to prove that I am worthy of this position in the company pass me by because of a few cracked ribs.
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
How will you compete in such obvious pain?
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
Hello! I am a doctor, Phillip! A few cortizone shots before the match will dull the pain just enough, and the adrenaline of the match will do the rest. You can't possibly think that I was going out there risking everything did you?
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
Actually...
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
(laughing) Phillip. You need to learn to relax, old boy. I know what I am doing. And besides, after all these years of friendship, you would think that you knew me better.
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
Well, one would think anyway.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
I will be fine, Phillip. Just stop worrying! You are worse than my mum! She called me and gave me this bloody long talk about saftey and quitting this wretched business.
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
She's your mother, Jonas! What did you expect.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
The same thing I expect from you! Your support. The belief that you have my back no matter what I decide to do. That's how friendships work.
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
I do have your back, Jonas. I am just worried for your longterm health.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
If you have my back, then you support me competing this weekend. End of story.
..::SETTING::..
A look of concern still on the face of Claxton as he nods and walks off. The scene then fades to black.
..::EPILOGUE::..
It's there for the taking, you know. This match. Are you listening Seth. I have intentionally shown you my weak points this week. I have shown you my damaged ribs. I have shown you the bruises. But what will you do. Will you allow yourself to become the animal you pretend to be and use my weakness to your advantage? Or at least try. You will try, right? I certainly hope so. Only an idiot would be able to watch my promotional videos this week and not think they had a slight advantage over me due to health concerns.
ONLY AN IDIOT, I SAY!
But let's face it. You haven't proven to be quite that analytical through the course of this week, so who knows. You could be trying to throw me off your scent by appearing to be a normal chap. Or you could be exactly who I see in your videos. A man who doesn't know who he is or what he wants. He just says what he thinks everyone wants to hear. There is a lot of that going around here in NCW these days. But me, I don't need to say it, Seth. I make my intentions known by what I do in the ring. By what I do to my opponents week in and week out. Management remembers everything I do because I make my presence known. I may not win all my matches, but even my victorious opponents remember me, and those that I have beaten....
They remember me as well!
Just as they know my name, you will too, Seth. You will remember that you stepped into the ring with me at Picture Perfect and I systematically picked you apart. That I destroyed you in your comeback match. And you will sit, and contemplate what would have happened. What should have happened. What could have happened, had you, at some point, taken charge in this match and been the man you claim to be. But alas, as you close your eyes, and dream of things you think could have been, you will think about the opportunity you had in your return to NCW to make a splash. To make people notice you. And you will sigh a sigh of disappointment.
Because you failed.
Injured or not, You will get everything I have to give. Can you overcome it, Seth? Probably not. Just as you let your brother control your life, I will control this match. Just as you let your brother take away the things you wanted as a child, I will take away the things as you want now as an adult. I will take your grand return and turn it into nothing more than a whisper in room full of screams. I will prove to the everyone that you are just some tosser who thinks that his return will have some type of immense impact on the wrestling world. Some might say its confidence. Maybe cockiness. I simply say that you are quite
Delusional.
It's a terrible thing to be stricken with. Things are never what they seem, and your eyes can fool you into thinking things are perfect. It's incredibly debilitating, Seth. I trust you have a personal doctor on staff to take care of you when you are injured. My advice, and this is free of charge of course, is to go to him. Explain to him the fantasy world you live in and let him take the proper course of treatment for you. I can't say without a full exam just what that treatment may be, however, you appear to have allowed this condition go on for quite some time, so don't be surprised if the first step in your treatment results in you in a backwards jacket, locked in a white rubber room!
Trust me, I'm a doctor!
