You don't have to follow me...
Spike, allow me to do the one thing that nobody has ever really done and question why you are considered the God of Xtreme. Most people just accept it, but is it just a moniker, something to sell merchandise and market you, or is there more to it? I don't really have a definitive answer for you, all I can say is that maybe it's because people believe in you for different reasons. Some people look to you to have their faith rewarded, they want to see you conquer this, just like you have pretty much everything else in your life.
What makes you the God of Xtreme to most people is the fact that there hasn't ever really been a company you've been in where you haven't been at the top at some point in your career. To most people, that makes you a true wrestling God. To most people, that would be enough...
But not to me.
To me, you're a God because once upon a time you showed me a new way, pointed me in a new direction and set me on a new path in my life. You opened the door to professional wrestling for me and watched over me in my early years, proud of that which you helped create. Like God himself however, that is only one of your faces. That is the face I believe in the most...but you have another.
A darker, more vengeful, twisted face. A wrath which has ended most of the people who have ever felt it, a wrath which ensured that of all the people we broke into the business with, Triple D, X-Con, The Hollands, only you would persevere, only you would survive and only you would flourish...
That is until me.
I've been the only one of our original crew to rival you, to stand shoulder to shoulder even now, proving to each other that we can still do this, that we still love this. Sure the Hollands have had a good run here aswell, but we both know they're done. Now they exist only in nCw as fan service, a name to incite a mark out reaction, just like countless other names that have come and gone through this company over the last four years...names like...
Lance Ryan.
Davey Ortega.
And Jack Hammond.
In some ways, you can't imagine how glad I am that I have never reached the level of their popularity, or even yours Spike. Because when you reach that level, and can go no higher, you are reduced to nothing more than a name. You are remembered for nothing more than a name, and you are honoured for being nothing more than a name. Now, I'm not an idiot, I know this business is a machine, and I know its cogs will keep turning, the wheels will keep spinning like they always have, even long after you and I have hung up our boots. In the end, the best any of us can really hope for, the best this business will ever give us in return after its chewed us up and spit us out is a Hall of Fame ring...
Something you've already achieved.
This business cannot and will not give you any more than that, you've been to the pinnacle of everything in this industry, so the question remains why are you still here, insisting to do this? What more can you possibly hope to achieve? Is your ego that monumental that you can't just sit back and enjoy your reputation for what is, or rather what it was?
The longer you refuse to relinquish the limelight, the longer you insist on reaching the top just one more time, to have just one more taste of the top, the more you're only going to keep embarassing yourself, the more you're going to ensure you keep destroying your legend rather than adding to it. If you don't give this foolish quest to prove you have at leat one more run at the top left in you, all people are ever going to remember from your nCw days is when Hexx inherited your name and your heroin addiction. Stop trying to add more accolades to your career and maybe you can still salvage this...
You've got nothing left to prove. To anybody.
So why are you still trying? Haven't you already slipped far enough down the drain by losing to Hexx and having a drug problem? You berate your brother, Brad, for being such an embarassment to the family name, do you really want to ensure that you yourself are remembered no better?
And so our story comes full circle.
nCw is doing their best not to save you, but to save your name, your reputation...even I, as your friend, am doing my best to try and make you realise through all your hot-headed determination that Spike Kane has done it all and needs to do no more. This Sunday, I will do my best to protect your legacy by giving you one of the best matches of your career, because you and your fans expect it and deserve no less from me...
I will give your life a new direction, Michael...
It probably won't be the direction you wanted to go, but trust me, it is the direction you need to go right now. It's the least I can do after everything you've done for me...
Only you can set me free...
