I brought the game on Friday for the PS2, because I don't have a PS3 - damn Sony for making it too expensive!
Ahem, so yeah, anyway I've spent the weekend playing it and I've found the 24/7 mode in general frustrating, not least because you have to earn a ridiculous amount of cash to put your skills up, cash that I could use to buy the damn unlockables...also the training can be an ass in certain aspects and picking activities to do every day, even the ones you fail and get fatigued for...
Oh and why does someone like Undertaker get these ridiculous Diva chasing storylines, I mean its been a trend in at least the last 3 games, if I'm Undertaker I don't want to chase Divas or have them throwing themselves at me, it just doesn't fit the character at all and irritates me!
Other points of the game that irritate me:
What the hell happened to the CAW attribute system, again you can't fine tune it aswell as you could before, now I have to buy these ridiculous Starter and Premium kits to get a random attribute boost...did I miss something?
ECW have been forced into teams and have a minimal presence, you can't do a 24/7 mode with any of them...
Changes to the control system, notably triangle for finisher is especially annoying as I tend to click L1 and run away from my opponent rather than finish them...
Hall of Fame Challenges - I do not want to create a custom belt and raise its prestige damn it...or create a stable with full attributes and beat DX on legend difficult...
Commentary/Animation glitches - yes they're still there!
John Cena - even his virtual counterpart is the most overrated in WWE!
Good points:
The fact that you have to maintain the health of your superstar in 24/7 mode adds realism...
Fighting styles vary and add new dynamics to gameplay
Weapon selection rocks but should be expanded to all arena types/stipulations not just ECW Extreme Rules Match
Ultimate Grapples can be reversed!
Randy Orton - the RKO animation is just beautiful!
Overall:
A decent game, though honestly not hugely different from 07, things could be improved like the Buried Alive Match not actually being a glorified Casket Match - those are two entirely different stipulations! The addition of flaming objects is cool but needs to be expanded - I want an Inferno Match damn it!
I wouldn't fret too much about buying this game, if you can, get it, if not, don't make a special effort, its not worth it, especially if you have 06/07...
So there's my first impressions, if anyone has any more feel free to share, I am particularly interested to know how the PS3 version compares...
