..::PROLOGUE::..
Another week, another victory, and another step towards my first ever championship match as a professional wrestler. First, I would like to reflect on that fact that the men I beat this past week on the Web Show were less than stellar in the match, and they should be fined. They were unprepared and were obviously not invested in the match enough to care. You two men, if I can truly call you that, should be ashamed of yourselves. But then again, maybe thats how you always prepare. Maybe that's what you are accustomed to. If so, I can tell you that you might as well either plan to permanently be on the web show and in dark matches, or plan to quit this business pretty soon. Otherwise..
Step your game up, gents!
Now, this week I literally have "Nothing to Lose". An amazingly apt name for this week's pay per view event indeed. Especially wnen you consider that is speaks right to the heart of the match I am in. My first ever championship match for the Honor Championship. I am completely honored to be in this match. Oh wait. Was that another Ace-esque Pun? I apologized, it certainly wasn't my intention. Anywho, this week, I truly have nothing to lose. If I lose this match to my opponent, I will be no worse off than I was before I stepping into the ring. Maybe a little worse for wear, certainly, but that is to be expected. But my opponent. He has a lot to lose this week, and I am not talking just about the Honor Championship either...
Am I, Kristoff?
Oh no, there is much more at stake this week for Mr Bates aside from losing the Honor Championship. A lot more. You see, Kristoff, I know your secret. You can try to shield it from the world, all you want, but as a trained professional, I am aware of the tactics people in your position take to conceal such things. I have seen it time and time again, Kristoff, and it consumes them like it's consuming you. Let me guess a few of the things you are going through.
~Constant Nervousness~
~Moderate Paranoia~
~Extremely short temper~
Sound familiar? All are symptoms of what you are going through. I hate to be the one to tell you this, but, it's only going to get worse as time goes by. The pressure that you are under is going to crush you until you just let yourself go. You know what I mean by that, so no sense in going on and on with it. You are the only one who can solve those problems. You are the only one who can get rid of all the pain and suffering you are going through. There is, however, one thing I can help you with. And this one thing will actually relieve the other things you suffer from. It won't cure them, mind you, only one thing can do that, and you already know what it is. But it will alleviate part of your problem. Simply put..
I will relieve you of the Honor championship.
This is not for me, Kristoff. It is for your own good. You see, when you are in the limelight as an NCW Champion, you are on display for all the world to see. This puts so much pressure on you to be "perfectly normal" that it increases your nervous condition, combines it with your paranoia. Those, combined with your fear of people knowing the real you causes these uncontrollable outbursts that present a real danger to yourself and others, my friend. You are going to wind up hurting yourself or even someone else if something isn't done to lighten your mental load.
***DISCLAIMER***
I totally meant the term "load" as in the weight of what you carry, and by no means was using it in reference to any type of sexual term. Maybe. Kind of.
The time has come to let it all out, Kristoff, and I intend on helping you do just that come Sunday Night. I promise you that once this is done, the overwhelming feeling of relief will be a weight off of your shoulders. You will be able to sleep better, breathe better and interact better with your peers. You are nearly at rock bottom, Bates, and if you truly think about everything you have to gain during this process, you will undoubtably realize, that you truly have..
Nothing to Lose!
..::SETTING::..
The scene opens in Manhattan with Potter and Claxton standing on Pennsylvania Plaza right across from the most famous arena in the world; Madison Square Garden. Some of the greatest matches, shows, concerts, and events have been held in this venue for decades! They stand there looking around, just in amazement of the structure and the things that have changed over the years. It went from an arena to a state of the art facility utilized by professional wrestling, mixed martial arts, recording artists, symphonies, comedies, and everything else you can imagine. Potter stands there in amazement, just thinking about the fact that come Sunday Night as NCW Presents Nothing To Lose live on Pay Per View, he will be competing in this incredible facility. A smile on his face, he turns to Claxton.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
Phillip, I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would be wrestling in this building, let alone in a championship match!
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
And against such a worthy opponent. Aside from Spike Kane, I believe this Bates fellow is your toughest competition yet!
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
Well, that's not quite right, is it?
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
How so? Spike Kane is a Hall of Famer, that makes him the toughest competition you have faced and beaten as of yet.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
Yes, maybe. But Kristoff Bates is a curious case indeed. He as a beast in the ring, and yet outside of it, he is far from it. Unless provoked.
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
Well, we both know why that is.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
Yes, he is hiding something from the rest of the world that he doesn't want us to find out.
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
Well, he think she is hiding it, anyway.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
(laughing) That's quite true. It appears blatantly obvious to everyone around him, yet he has it in his mind that nobody knows the real deal. Seems like a break from reality to me.
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
Or just plain, old fashioned, denial.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
That is always a killer in cases like his, Claxton.
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
If he doesn't come to terms with what and who he is soon, and realize that we already know, it could kill him, Jonas. It could literally, kill him.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
Yes, I know. So I figure winning the title will take him out of the spotlight, thus exposing him less to the media and lightening his burden.
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
Very Clever, Jonas. Very clever indeed!
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
Why thank you, sir! I figured you would like that.
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
What I would like is for you to be successful this week. So I have some things planned for this week that will assist you in this match.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
Ahhh yes, submission only! Wonderful stipulation isn't it?
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
Wasn't a very well thought out plan by Bates, though. I mean, who decides that a submission stipulation with a medical doctor is a good idea? You know every bone, ligament, muscle and tendon in the human body and the ways to distort them in ways to cause incredible pain. I just don't get the thinking behind it on his part.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
Very well put, Claxton.
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
Thank you! Come along then! We have plenty to do to get ready for this match!
..::SETTING::..
Claxton begins walking and Potter turns, stops, stares at the Madison Square Garden sign and smiles. He turns and follows him down the street. As they leave the view of the camera, the scene fades to black.
..::EPILOGUE::..
Standing in front of Madison Square Garden gave me chills. To think of all the incredible things that have happened for the wrestling business there was just mind boggling. To think that I am going to participate in one of those events this Sunday night was even more so! To be in a match that is the first of its kind, that is truly something special. How clever of you, Kristoff, to come up with a match that can only be won by a submission hold. And on top of that, you only get one break the entire match, and after that you can either tap out, break, or reverse the hold.
Well played, Sir!
The way I see it, however, choosing this type of match with a doctor was a tactical error. As Claxton pointed out, I know every pressure point, bone, muscle, tendon and ligament in the human body. Although I have a few submissions moves in my repertoire already, I don't fathom that it would be difficult to add more. Since the beginning of wrestling there have been great submission moves utilized to win matches. Some of the moves we still love today, in fact!
~The Iron Claw~
~The Sharpshooter~
~Cross-Faced Chicken Wing~
~The Figure Four~
~The Cobra Clutch~
~The Mandible Claw~
Yes, the mandible claw, a personal favorite of mine! It was developed by a man, much like myself. A medical doctor who came up with the hold quite by chance. His name was Dr Sam Sheppard and he was a physician turned professional wrestler as well. This move is as intriguing as it gets because it's as legitimately painful as anything else you can imagine. I am sure that with a bit of practice, I am more than capable of mastering this hold.
Yes!
I believe I shall! Actually, Claxton has arranged for some intense training the next few days to prepare me for a match of this type. Honor rules are complex, and since I have never been in a match of this type, I need to prepare. But don't worry, Bates, I will be more than ready, willing, and able to stand toe to toe with you and abide by the rules. After all...
That's what honorable men do!
