“Nothing to Lose.”
“Well, that just about sums it up now doesn’t it?”
Those words echo down a hall, dimly lit, pictures hanging on all sides of the same man holding numerous championship titles, some simply posing on the top turnbuckle, while others show him standing over a fallen foe, title raised high. As the camera angle switches we can see that it is NCW newcomer, Mike Laszlo walking down the hall at a slow pace that some may even consider sauntering. He stops after four steps and holds his hands outstretched toward the walls.
Mike Laszlo: Do you see all of this? Do you? These pictures represent everything I’ve ever done in the world of wrestling.
He continues down the hall until he reaches two double doors. Swinging them open he reveals what looks to be a trophy room. On one side displayed proudly on the wall is his first ever worn ring gear. Also along it, notable ring attires from the past that meant something to him, each in its own unique way. It looked however at the end that there was a blank spot. He walks over in that direction and stops in front of the blank section on the wall.
Mike Laszlo: I’m sure you’re wondering why this section of my wall is so bare. This is where the ring attire will hang for my first match, and victory in NCW. We’ll get back to that in a minute though. Let’s continue the tour, shall we?
Walking across the room he heads toward a glass case full of title belts from numerous organizations, between some are plaques from said organizations, commemorating his success, and at the very end, a case devoted to the WXWF Hall of Fame of which he is a proud member, displaying the hall of fame plaque, in the center, a pedestal with a red pillow on it holding his hall of fame ring in the center of it, and hanging next to it, a hall of fame baseball jersey designed by the company with his name on the back. He walks by the entire case showcasing all of his achievements with his left arm.
Mike Laszlo: When you hear the word “decorated”, this is what they mean.
Eight time World Champion in multiple organizations.
Five time Tag Team Champion in multiple organizations.
And in those different organizations I’ve held six other major titles.
All in four years.
Four years. Really not that long. I’ve done everything I’ve ever set out to do.
Walking from the trophy case, he heads toward a desk in the room. The desk itself, gorgeous, made out of maple, with a nice finish that would make an antique auctioneers jaw drop, and may even cause a tad bit of drool to form on his lower lip. Behind the desk sat one of those tall black leather chairs that you see in executives offices on television. They really are THAT awesome that he just had to have one.
He heads toward the chair and pulls it out, sitting in it before pulling himself to the desk, folding his hands together upon the desktop. Staring into the camera, he continues.
Mike Laszlo: A few questions are probably going through those little minds of yours. Yes I’m talking to you…the viewing audience. You’re probably asking yourselves, why is he showing us this? Why does he think I care? Well the answers are quite simple.
Sitting back in the chair, resting his shoulder length dark locks up against the leather, he allows a sly grin to cross his lips.
Mike Laszlo: I’m showing you this, so you realize that I’m not just a newcomer. I may be new to the world of NCW but the galaxy that is professional wrestling isn’t new. The game is the same, only thing different is the venue.
He refocuses, again placing his hands upon the desktop, fingers laced together.
Mike Laszlo: As far as why you care? I could care less. The reaction I garner from you is indifferent. I don’t care what you think of me, who I associate myself with, or the actions that I perform. You people pay your money whether it be hard earned, doubt it, or given to you by the government, most likely, to see me, not the other way around. You people know that the talents I possess are like no other in the simple fact that mine are better. I am unique, independent and the most important part of this little lecture that I need you to understand is, I’m merciless. I go out and win at all costs.
He pauses a moment to let the aforementioned words soak in. Now that they have done so, he goes on.
Mike Laszlo: That brings me to the Pay Per View, and my opponent…Daniel V Daloham. Now there’s not much to say here. I could say you’re not as talented as I am, or your ugly, you’re not worthy of being in the same ring as me, so on and so forth, but it’s all been done before and quite frankly is really boring. So know that I win at all costs, and if it cost your career, so be it.
Sitting back in his chair, but not all the way back as before, Laszlo outstretches his arms and the words of wisdom flow from his lips once more.
Mike Laszlo: This little “galaxy” of ours Daniel, ya know, the one we call professional wrestling, is a lot like business. People call it the business, or “the biz” but nobody gets how similar they truly are. I being a successful businessman know that they are so similar that they are indeed almost one and the same. In business, much like wrestling, you climb a ladder. You pass over obstacles to get to the top and succeed. The obstacles in wrestling are the other competitors on the roster. You beat each obstacle down until you are standing on the top of the mountain, or in our case…champion. Like business, in wrestling, you need to know when to take risks. You need to calculate how each and every maneuver will help your chances of succeeding, and if need be how far back a setback would take you. Then comes my favorite part. In wrestling, like business, you need to know when to take charge. You need to know when to step on somebody’s toes and when to back off and let someone else take over. Toe stepping, I do well. The other part, well, I haven’t gotten there yet.
Standing from the chair he stares into the camera, knowing that this is the last stanza of his diatribe.
Mike Laszlo: So Daniel, this Sunday is when it happens, the first foothold in the side of the mountain. Two men step into an NCW ring for the first time, both looking to start their ascent up the proverbial mountain, but only one can start the climb now, the other left in what is known as card opening purgatory. Both of our feet are in that first hole Daniel, and when all is said and done, just remember…I like stepping on toes. I have nothing to lose indeed Daniel, and everything to gain.
A smile creeps across the man’s face as the scene fades to black with him turning his back and heading the way in which he came.
“Well, that just about sums it up now doesn’t it?”
