"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
[/i]Those words are spoken by one Mike Laszlo as the Vegas skyline is shown as the sun sets behind Red Rock Canyon in a slow motion, fast forward.
Mike Laszlo: Those words were used by George Santayana in his book Reason in Common Sense, The Life of Reason, Vol. 1. Now before I go on, I need to discuss some very important points that need to be made very clear about myself and my feelings toward others and how they feel about the things I say and or do. I DON’T CARE WHAT YOU THINK!
The tone escalates for a moment just to emphasize that keen point before returning to that of a normal attitude. The scene shown now is that of the Las Vegas strip, shown in a zoom, almost warp speed as the buildings, cars, lights, and people become nothing more than a blur. As we zoom through the streets, we speed into one of the luxurious hotels, through the bustling and always engaging casino floors, up many flights of stairs and stop behind a man staring over all of Vegas from a penthouse suite. With his arms outstretched toward the city, the man yells at the top of his lungs.
Mike Laszlo: NOW THIS IS A REAL CITY!!
Turning around toward the camera, Laszlo puts his hand over his chin.
Mike Laszlo: Now where were we? Ah yes, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” That has to be the biggest misquote in history. Some say, “Those who know not of the past are doomed to repeat it. Others say, “Those of who know not of mistakes made in the past have no way of correcting them when they are made again.” So on and so forth, but all lead to the same basic ideology. Don’t forget the past.
With the bright lights of Las Vegas behind him, a much better city than New York, he leans against the balcony of his suite placing his hands upon the railing to steady himself.
Mike Laszlo: Why would I forget the past? Why should I put it behind me? Why not remember the good ole days? The past allows you to learn from your mistakes. For if you cannot learn, why even go on?
He sticks out his left arm to help demonstrate his point a bit further, helping to separate one idea from the other.
Mike Laszlo: I’ve made mistakes. Everybody makes mistakes. You learn from them, you move on, and you’re better for that. Like you Daniel, I too live in this present moment. I however, remember the past as not to put myself in an otherwise bad predicament. I heard what you had to say in your otherwise extremely creepy automated voice. The past is gone. Is it truly? Your whole little montage seems a little bit hypocritical if I may say so, and no, I wasn’t asking permission. If the past is truly gone as you half-heartedly believe, you wouldn’t hide behind a helmet. If the past is gone, you wouldn’t need the creepy automated voice. If the past were gone you wouldn’t need to hide your identity to the world.
His tone escalates as he begins pointing into the camera with each passing expression, emphasizing his points to extremes, making sure they got across, nice and clear.
Mike Laszlo: The past isn’t gone Daniel. The past haunts one’s self for the rest of eternity. As you live on, it lingers. As you continue your life, it stalks. It sits and waits for the perfect moment to comeback and bite you right on your ass. You hide, not to forget the past, but to avoid the moment you say you live in. You Daniel, DO NOT LIVE IN THE MOMENT! Others live in the moment while you stand on the outskirts looking in, hoping not to be noticed by those you hide from. YOU hide from the past because you know it’s your present and there’s no escaping it.
There’s a slight chuckle that emanates from Mike’s body as he heads over to the bed in the room. He has a seat gently as to barely ruffle the covers and stares back at the camera fixated on his every move.
Mike Laszlo: Another thing you said, is the future is nothing more than a dream. Again, you’re wrong. The future isn’t a dream. The future is what you make it. The future is the result of the moment. The future is the result of opportunities both seized and lost, and how it all affects each other and the grand scheme of things. The future isn’t a dream because dreams are fictional. Take us for example. In the moment we talk back and forth. In the FUTURE we will take on one another inside that very ring. It’s not a dream…it WILL happen.
Shaking his head in denial, he can’t help but grin to himself, and perhaps burst out into laughter inside his own head. We will never know. With a tilt of his head toward the camera, his longer black hair falls to the side of his face.
Mike Laszlo: Daniel, word after word leads me to believe that you are mightily confused. You have misinterpreted all that I have said as being cocky or egotistical and you could be no farther from the truth that it truly does hurt me inside that I could lead you so far astray. When I tell the world that I am simply put THE BEST, I don’t do so to tell them to stop trying. I do so as inspiration, no matter they look at it that way or not is up to them. You apparently don’t, but to each their own. Not once do I say, stop trying. Not once do I say, pack it in. Not once do I deter someone from being the best they can be. Me saying I’m simply put THE BEST, can best be construed as a challenge of sorts, because believe it or not Daniel, we do have a similar thought.
Giving a thumbs up to the camera, Mike’s tone turns to one of sarcasm as a smile covers his face from ear to ear.
Mike Laszlo: Good job Danny-boy, you finally got one right. I can admit when someone is right, though in this circumstance I am not wrong for I completely, and totally, one hundred percent agree. There is always someone, or something better. Whether it be due to circumstance, or just downright skill, there’s always better, but there’s a catch when I’m involved. Agree with it or not, I am the best, and I will continue to say so until I am knocked from my perch and proven wrong. Really Daniel, what did you expect? Did you think I was going to come and roll over? Did you think I was going to say, “Oh God, I’m going to face a man with a creepy automated voice who wears a helmet and is too afraid to show his face. It’s all over. I can never beat him.”? Because if you thought that, than you thought wrong. I say I’m the best because that’s what I am and I’ve proven it time and time again, and will continue to do so.
Standing from his seated position, a look of pure complexity covers his face as he tries to recall yet another instance in which Daniel has mistaken him, or made a claim that was indeed a falsity or a truth-less statement.
Mike Laszlo: Your attitude toward my promo was rather bland, don’t you think? You called me a newcomer, of which I clearly explained, I was not. Then you said that everything was just a re-run of things you’ve heard in the past.
Next Big Thing.
Take what I deserve.
Become World Champion.
Shaking his head side to side with each “blah.”
Mike Laszlo: Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
I however said none of that. As a matter of fact, I said that I COULD say all of that, but that it would be very boring as you yourself have demonstrated. So all of this leads me to a similar conclusion that you yourself have come to, our match may not be exactly what the “paper” says it could be. I feel that it will be a bit one sided. Why? Because of you Daniel and your attitude. You like so many others have decided to cast me aside because you refuse to acknowledge what I’ve done and what exactly it means. So when all is said and done and all the smoke has cleared, you will be added to the list like those before you who thought they could take the title of “Best” from me. Then, the next morning, when you wake up, you may still think I’m not “The Best”, but you will know for a fact that I AM BETTER, THAN YOU!
Laszlo leaves the scene as it fades to darkness.
