The Generation Gap
There is a huge difference between The Kane’s and The Locke’s. On one hand you have a pair of brothers with quite a legacy here in NCW. On the other you have a pair of brothers who are just getting started in this business. The Kane’s have won many titles over the long years they have been here and we have been here for a month and haven’t accomplished anything yet. The Kane’s pointed that out in a not so eloquent fashion and you know what? That’s is fine by us, continue to point out the obvious for the television audience. I know they eat that kind of thing up. They love it when people like Spike Kane do that, just as they did when you pulled my little brother off the ring apron at the last t.v. taping. It’s no big deal to us, we always expect people to do what they have to do. A loss to the internationals changes nothing.
That would be another huge difference between the two sets of twins. Where you two little boys take everything personal, we take nothing personal in the business of fighting or wrestling. You see once you take the personal nature of this game out of it you achieve success. Where you two don’t feel like you can accomplish anything unless there is something personal on the line we accomplish great things without emotion or personal drama. We don’t feel the need to draw the sheep watching at home into our personal lives so they are more involved with what is going on on television. The cheers and the boos of the crowd don’t affect us in any way. When we enter the ring everything is tuned out except for the task at hand.
I hope you won’t take my words to much to heart, of course you probably will its just the nature of your generation. That would be the other huge difference. Spike and Brad Kane are part of the old guard around here. The huge difference that I speak of? Of course that would be experience. But for your wealth of experience you made one very large mistake. You see when you pulled Rockwell off that ring apron, the smart thing to do would have been to take him out and then after the match do the same with me. Perhaps age is starting to creep in and you have lost your edge. I mean The Kane’s have a reputation for violence but that like your relevance may be starting to slip away. The Kane’s of today are much like every old jock sitting in a sports bar somewhere watching this right now. Hanging on to the past with a clenched fist. Living on past accolades and titles, its sad really, I would have expected much more from a pair of legends….
{Somewhere near the arena}
I stand out on the balcony watching the nights sky, the light breeze that was blowing suddenly stops as I watch a thunderhead start to develop. The wind picks back up again, slowly picking up speed and I feel the first few drops of rain begin to fall. Then the sky opens up and it’s a full blown storm. I lean out over the balcony as the rain starts to come in sideways stinging my skin. I smile as the first few hail stones start to strike the balcony as I turn to go inside the hotel room. I step across the thresh hold into the room and slide the door shut behind me. I have already dressed for our match tonight and now its just a waiting game. I look to the right, Morris sits reading something in the corner chair mumbling incoherently while Rockwell leans back into the couch watching more footage of The Kane Brothers. I sit next to my little brother and take in the match he is watching.
Hamilton Locke:
I would have thought you to be studying The Kane’s……
Rockwell Locke:
I was, but I think we know everything we need to know about them don’t you?
Hamilton Locke:
Probably so, that’s some vintage stuff there.
I watch as the smile starts to spread across his face, he loves watching old matches from other companies.
Rockwell Locke:
I love watching these old matches, it sometimes give me ideas for things we can try in the ring.
I look over at the clock on the wall, it is getting close to time to go to the arena, I stand up and go to my bed and grab my bag. Morris looks up at the clock and nods.
Rockwell Locke:
Its time.
With that simple statement the easy going demeanor changes and a more focused Rockwell appears almost as if out of thin air. I nod in satisfaction as he grabs his bag and we exit the room and head towards only God knows what…..
Scene fades.
