..::PROLOGUE::..
It's quite a surprise, isn't it? Finding out that Kristoff Bates is homosexual, I mean. Honestly, to me, it isn't. I knew a long time ago. But honestly, to hear him say it out loud was shocking. I knew it was killing him inside. It had to be a heavy burden to carry all this time.
Living a Lie.
One lie became another.
Weighing down on your like a pile of bricks.
I bet saying it took a lot of the weight and stress from your shoulders, Bates. Not that I can relate to your sexual preferences, but I can relate to carrying around a burden so heavy that it nearly buckled my knees and crushed me beneath its weight. Just a little over ten years ago, after the attacks on the World Trade Center, the guilt I felt from being so frozen in fear and shock that I wasn't able to help people in the streets was incredible. The symptoms are likely much the same as yours were.
Made me sick to my stomach.
Couldn't eat regularly.
Nausea.
Mental and emotional breakdowns.
It took quite a toll on me, Bates. It wasn't until I was admitted to a psychiatric institute and began going through therapy and was able to say out loud that it wasn't my fault. That I wasn't to blame for what happened that day before I began to feel better about myself and my situation. Being able to say it and mean it was incredibly uplifting.
Much like it is for you.
Now, I am quite sure you are just bracing yourself for the backlash of this announcement, aren't you? Just waiting for someone to say something negative and poke fun at you. For the neanderthals in the back to crack jokes and use all the slurs that they know to describe men like you. So I figure we should get this over and done with so that it's not a big deal anymore. I mean, once you hear the slurs, you can take them in, let them go, and it won't bother you any longer.

~Rump Ranger~
~Ass Bandit~
~Queen~
~Flamer~
~Queer~
~Butt Banger~
I honestly can't think of anymore at the moment, but I am sure there will be plenty more. Now, I don't say these out of hate or ill will, Bates. I say these to help you get over it quicker. As far as I am concerned, what you do with your junk in private has nothing to do with me or this match. So, if it's quite alright with you, I will get to the task of talking about our match now?
Alright then, Moving on!
So a rematch from a month ago when I defeated you to win my first every championship. When you and I battled tooth and nail in a match that could certainly be considered as match of the year. We meet again in a standard Honor Rules match for what is now MY Honor Championship. It's been a long month since I won this title as I have had three matches, and only won a single match in that time. I have lost two consecutive matches to Kyle Braddock and Jake Conway. Both former world champions. Both in extremely close matches.
But I fell short, didn't I?
While people take the time to blog, facebook, Twitter and use other platforms in which to praise my work since I got to NCW a few months ago, I have been busy letting them down, haven't I? It seems as though I need to get back to doing what I do best, and that's focus on wrestling, and not so much on what the hell is going on around NCW. This match should be another epic battle between you and I, Bates. You are a formidable opponent, and I respect you greatly for your courage.
But I will not lose.
Or will I?
You see, losing this match has an incredible upside, doesn't it? Losing this match for you means you would get an opportunity to compete in the Road to the Gold Tournament. The annual tournament in which a select group of non title holders gets the opportunity to compete in a single elimination tournament for a shot at the NCW World Championship. While I am proud ot be the NCW Honor Champion and represent NCW as such, the idea of having an opportunity to be the World Champion is quite tempting. It seems losing this match wouldn't be such a bad thing for me either, would it?
Quite the conflict, I must say.
Don't worry, Bates. I won't be coming to the ring to lose. Oh no, I am much to competitive for that. I don't like to lose at anything, for any reason. Call it vanity. Call it arrogance. Call it what you will. I have a competitive streak running through me that won't allow me to go to the ring and not give a hundred and ten percent. Sunday night, I will do just that at Battlegrounds. But I expect the same from you.
Don't disappoint me, sir.
..::SETTING::..
Washington D.C. The capitol of the United States of America and site of NCW's Battlegrounds Pay Per View this Sunday Night. Phillip Claxton accompanies Jonas around town sight seeing. Taking in all the incredible historic landmarks this city has to offer.
~The Washington Monument~
~The Lincoln Memorial~
~The Smithsonian~
~Ford Theater~
They sit on a bench near the Washington Monument enjoying the brisk breeze of a budding fall season enjoying the hustle and bustle of people in the area. For a while, they watch groups of tourists and school children as they take in the sights with wide-eyed wonderment. Jonas smiles to himself as a group of children passes him by.
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
What are you smiling about?
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
Just seeing all these innocent faces in awe of their country's history makes me happy. They don't know the true world we live in yet. So young and hopeful for the future. I remember when I looked at the world that way.
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
Many years ago, my friend, I felt the same way.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
Even into my adult years I felt that there was hope for mankind, Claxton. I looked at the world as a glass half full. I looked at the world as a wonderful place where people could live out their dreams if they had a mind to do so.
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
Then 9/11 changed all that, didn't it?
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
Indeed.
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
I know this time of year generally gets you down thinking back on that day. But here we are, ten years later. The man responsible for those attacks is dead. Justice has been served.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
Yes, I suppose you are right. I have to look into the future. Look into this bright new world of professional wrestling and really press hard to become the best I can be.
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
And your next match is a test of that drive and determination, my friend.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
Bates is a hell of an opponent for sure, Claxton. He is unlike any man I have ever faced before. He has goals and aspirations. He wants to succeed. I like that about him.
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
I have a feeling that some people may not want him to succeed due to his recent.....admission.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
Oh come on. It's 2011 for God's sake. Anyone who wouldn't want him to succeed just because he is homosexual is a barbaric idiot. The man is as talented in the ring as any man on the roster and he has proven it time and time again. Preferring men to women doesn't change that.
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
I suppose you are right. But you know there are going to be shots taken, or taken away from, Bates for being homosexual.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
Unfortunately, you are probably right. But I will not fall into the category of assholes who discriminate against the man for being who he is. He has an opportunity to become the first ever two time Honor Champion against me Sunday night, and that's fine with me. I hold him no ill will. I just hope he comes to fight.
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
Why wouldn't he?
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
Because he wants to also be in the Road to the Gold Tournament.
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
Ahhh yes. Something you would like as well.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
True. However, I also feel that my work ethic, drive, and ambition will one day give me the opportunity to become World Champion. I do not need Road to the Gold to get there before it's time.
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
It makes me proud to hear you say that, Jonas.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
Well, it's true. Now, if it's quite alright with you, I am absolutely starving. Shall we get lunch?
..::PHILLIP CLAXTON::..
I thought you would never ask!
..::SETTING::..
Both men get up from the bench and walk through the park surrounding the Washington Monument. They pass through several groups of people before coming to the parking lot. They climb into their car and drive off as the scene fades to black.
..::EPILOGUE::..
There is no shortage of immaturity in this business. In the locker room. In the halls. In this world, for that matter. But I see myself above all the atrocious name calling that will certainly befall you, Bates. There is no reason for me to jump on that bandwagon. I want to concentrate on the task at hand.
Beating you and retaining my Honor Championship.
And I plan to do it honorably, as the title suggests. It isn't the NCW "Gay Slur" championship so there is no need to address it further. I want to focus on the real you, Bates. The intelligent, articulate, incredible athlete part of you. Once we are in the arena, and that bell rings to signify the beginning of our match, nothing else matters but those key things.
Nothing.
You are fast and saavy in the ring. You look for advantages during the match, and you take advantage of them. Something that impresses me greatly because I am the same exact way. Completely cerebral when it comes to the match that I am in. It's a breath of fresh air to face someone so similiar in style, yet so different at the same time. Our last match was one for the ages, Bates. An epic. And this match might not be able to stand up to that one. But we will certainly try, won't we. So I shall see you in the ring.
Face to face.
Nose to nose.
Man to man.
And may the best man win.
