Dear New Championship Wrestling,
This is the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life. I've never officially retired in my ten years in this business like some other people I know. I've always just taken time off, and there has been a few times where I've said I'd never come back, but I've never used the R word. Today though, I'm sitting in the waiting room of my doctors office here in Atlanta writing this letter on my laptop to do just that.
I'm not sure how it happened but I reinjured my knee. It seems crazy to me because this is no where near the worst injury I've ever had, but somehow I aggravated my knee and I had to drop out and give up on the one reason I came back, the Road to the Gold tournament and a chance at the world championship. Doing that broke my heart and I instantly wanted to come back but in the days thereafter I came to a realization. If I don't stop now I might never be the same again.
Most of my fans and co-workers know that I have two wonderful boys that are growing up faster then I could ever imagine. It's because of them I realized that it's time to hang up the boots because I want to be there in their lives. It's mighty hard to play catch with two boys when you can't run to first after a hit or chase down a fly ball. I want to be able to walk out to the dance floor and dance with my wonderful wife when one of them once gets married and that's a dream that won't come true if I can't stand on both legs. I'm making a decision that will greatly impact my life.
A lot of you out there will say that I'm giving up on my dream. You'll call me a failure because I never won the World Championship in NCW or defeated the only man I don't hold a win over in the form of Steve Awesome. A lot of you out there have no clue what my real dream in this business was. My dream was to work my hardest to surpass what my father was in this business and I achieved that the first time I won a championship. Since then I've been trying to build a legacy of a champion and no matter what you people say to me, I've done just that by winning gold in every company I ever spent time in.
So I guess this is the end. I've never known what to say when it came time to say good bye so this is a little awkward for me. Just know that every single one of you, fan and co-worker alike, have a place in my heart that will always be there. Good luck and good night.
