I can agree...that looks pretty good, and I assume you aren't actually an animator/student. That's the sort of thing that we don't exactly learn in those classes, though, your doing more the Visual Effects 3d graphics stuff...but it looks like something someone who at least knows how to work Max created. Usually you need a lot of experience in Max to get that stuff down...I'm more a Maya guy. I just wish half the stuff I did didn't go missing when my old computer fried.

I'm a student in my final year. I'm a prop maker/designer for film and TV. But CGI is becoming a big thing in this industry so I decided to teach myself it to become more employable.
Thanks for the comments guys. I might keep updating this thread as my project goes on. I'll be doing some character/machine modelling soon for my main piece soon.
I've never used Maya, heard it's the main thing for modelling though.

I've never used Maya, heard it's the main thing for modelling though. Yeah, it's more than standard for modelling, and as far as animations in 3d go, the more detail oriented pieces are either done using Maya or a program the studio created based off Maya. It's not a whole lot different than Max in some aspects, but it is something you can get easily overwhelmed with. And that's cool, a film/tv dude. Right now I've mostly focussed my energies toward 2d animation using hand-drawn mixing with Flash. It's far easier than having to shell out the money for even student discount versions of Maya/Max.

Yeah the dark ocean pic is dull simply because of the lighting lol.
First time I've tried to create water, I have a few books helping me a long but I tend to read it, go away for an hour, come back and see how much I learnt, and thankfully it stays with me lol.
Yeah all of it was done on 3ds, the water looks okay, but I'm gonna refine it soon. I want to bring the opacity of the water down a bit so you can the sky above it more clearly.
And thanks dude, I better get a job after all this, otherwise my dad was right and it was a waste of time lol.
