“Let me tell you all a story....”
“A long time ago...”
“In a company far far less impressive than this one....”
“Two men from different backgrounds...”
“Had common dreams...”
“aspirations....”
“views on life.....”
“Even common friends.....”
“They had never met.....”
“Never known each other existed....”
“Then as a friendship blossomed....”
“So did a friendly rivalry.....”
“So far....one is head and shoulders above the other....”
“But in one man’s eyes...they are equal....”
“This isn’t the end....”
“It’s just another battle in a war of attrition....”
“This company has yet to witness this.......”
“You are going to see something special....”
“inside the ring...and out....”
“Spike Kane.....”
A smile comes across my face, my mind flashes back through the last seven years.
“That name alone conjures up alot of thoughts and feelings, especially in NCW. Spike is a former Honor, National and World Champion. A hall of famer, a man who has been one of the brightest stars in NCW since it had its glorious opening. But I knew Spike Kane before all that. See Spike and I have a history that is known but never really spoken of. See seven years ago Spike signed a contract with another company. He and my then wife were former lovers and friends. Spike coming into that company was a big deal as even then he was a well known veteran. I shook Spike’s hand and welcomed him with open arms into the family.....”
“Over time he and I became friends, colleagues and even occasional tag team partners. Five years ago Spike and I were in that company’s rumble match, a match similar to NCW’s rumble. Spike threw me out, basically taking my dream. But I shook his hand and wished him luck. Then our biggest show of the year came around, this show was that company’s version of A night to remember. On that night Spike became the world champion of that organisation, on the same night I won the “X Crown”. Now the X Crown was a collection title, a unified title belt that was made up of the titles that champions of dead company’s had brought in. It was a belt that honoured the lineage of companies that came before. I won that title on the same night Spike won the World title. And in a moment that will always be special to me Spike and I stood in the ring titles over our heads as the two best in that company.....”
“Then Spike disappeared. The company we worked for slowly circled the drain. Many of those former work colleagues of mine found their way here, including Spike........”
I smirk and laugh to myself.
“There’s a long standing rule here were you try and avoid talking to much about a former company. But in this case it’s more than relevant. See you people need to realise that in NCW Spike Kane is a hall of famer, a god, a former champion. In NCW I’m not vied as anywhere near Spike Kane’s equal. But in the grand scheme of things. When you look at this business and this world as a whole, I’m alot closer to Spike Kane than many realise. When I first came into NCW I tried to contact my former friend. I got nothing. Not a “hello” not a “what are you doing here” I was ignored. Mr Spike Kane was too big of a star to acknowledge old friends.....”
“I would have rather gotten an ass kicking and a slap in the face than being ignored. So I got angry I lashed out and talked trash. THAT got your attention. After a brief war of words nothing happened because you left Spike. You walked away and now here we are a few years later, I’ve been a champion here and I’ve shown I can be one of the best NCW has to offer and you returned and rebuilt your career. But those old issues rear its head don’t they Spike?......”
“You went to team with your brother Brad. You had a relationship with a woman here that could understand you. Alysson left, Brad retired and those old abandonment issues popped back up. Despite everything, despite the betrayals and the issues of the past I’ve always seen you as a friend. And last week when I saw you destroy Cooper and Savage on the collision web show, then I saw what you had started to do to Jackhammer and I knew you had to be stopped, Ace is already running around taking people out left and right we don’t need you doing it to....”
“More than that...you’re pissing on your own legacy....”
I sigh and fold my arms......
“Jealousy....”
“An ugly word....”
“An ugly feeling....”
“Many wonder who is jealous?......”
‘
“Is it me......”
“Or is it him?.....”
“When I look in the mirror......”
“When my reflection stares back.....”
“Is it an honest man I see?....”
“Absolved of guilt?......”
“A followed of truth?.....”
“Or am I doing this for other reasons?....”
“Maybe Spike shouldn’t trust me....”
“Trust.......”
I fold my arms and sit back.
“The foundation of any worthwhile relationship.....”
I raise my eyebrows
“And friendships.....”
I laugh.....
“Now you have to ask why you don’t trust me Spike......”
I smirk.
“Is it because of our past?. Is it because of betrayal?. If we examine our past with a fine tooth comb we’ll see plenty of times where we both should have been better friends......but I did trust you. And whether you believe it or not I’m doing this because I am your friend.....”
I smile and nod very “matter of factly”.
“I have been your ***damn friend for the last seven years. SEVEN YEARS Spike. For the better part of a decade you and I have known each other and we’ve been there. We’ve had each other’s backs and we’ve seen the highs and lows of this business and through it all we both faced the problems and our addictions. We’ve both felt loss and pain because of this, we both LOVE this business and our jobs......”
“We’re both WRESTLERS. We’re both fighters. We’re both competitive.....”
I smile.
“And now NCW get to witness something special......see you and I know what happens when we face one another.....”
It’s amazing......
“And now NCW gets to see it......feel it.....experience it.....let’s go to war.....”
