..::PROLOGUE::..
I am going to start this out with complete and total honesty. I am beginning to think that the Honor Championship is sort of a laughing stock around New Championship Wrestling. I enjoy being the champion, and I enjoy the competitive nature of professional wrestling, however, this is two title defenses in a row in which I am facing a man who lost the previous week and has done little to earn a chance. This week, I face a man who is still trying to get his feet under him after an absence from injury.
Ander Carvetti.
It's hard to know much about the man, but he seems to let his personal issues take hold of him and affect his in ring work. It's rather sad, because he appears to be a talented wrestler. But is he worthy of stepping into the ring with me for a shot at my Honor Championship? Is he worthy of a match on Pay Per View after such a poor showing last week against Jimmy Zane?
It's certainly debatable.
So, this is what I am going to do. I am going to come out there this weekend in this match and I am going to prove you don't belong in the ring with me, Carvetti. I am going to prove that I am the best damn Honor Champion that there has ever been, or ever going to be. I don't plan on relinquishing this title until I have surpassed Atreyu as the longest reigning Honor Champion in history. To do that, I have to do what I do week in and week out. As the late owner of the American Football franchise called the Oakland raiders, Al Davis, would say.
Just Win Baby.
I am top form right now, Ander, so please do not underestimate me. Do not feel that you can come into this match and just beat me and walk out of there with the Championship wrapped around your waist without fighting me tooth and nail for it. You will have to pry it from my cold dead fingers, Ander. That much is true. As a great poet once said...
I will not go gentle into that good night!
I will give you all the fight you can handle and then some, Ander. That's what this business is all about. Giving your best week in and week out and withstanding what your opponent throws at you to come out on top. Regardless of how imperfect your life is outside the ring, it can always be perfect in the ring.
If you work hard to make it that way.
I have worked my arse off to get here, Ander, and I will be damned if I am going to let you come in this weekend and knock me off course. I have set my goals and I have achieved them. Next in my life is a particular date.
December 5, 2011
That is the day I will become the longest reigning Honor Champion in the history of the title. As you can see I am still about five weeks away from that goal. And in my way, stands you. So if you think for one single, solitary second that I am about to let you beat me this weekend, you got another thing coming. Be sure to show up prepared, Ander...
Prepared to LOSE!
..::SETTING::..
Just a few blocks from the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Dr Potter sits at a table in a fancy restaurant with his friend Philip Claxton. They are chatting about mundane things, as well as Potters upcoming title defense this week against Ander Carvetti at NCW's latest Pay Per View Extravaganza, Road to the Gold V! The camera pans around the table until closing in on the table tightly until only Potter and Claxton are in the picture.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
It was a good win last week over Spike Kane and Alex Jones, wasn't it?
..::PHILIP CLAXTON::..
Indeed it was, old boy! Very nice win indeed! I thought for sure you would be face Gjenrei this week.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
I did to, but the more I think about how things are going, the more I think that this title I wear around my waist is just a bone they throw to people to keep them interested in continuing to work here.
..::PHILIP CLAXTON::..
I have begun to pick up on that myself.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
Not that I don't appreciate and take pride in being the NCW Honor Champion, but constantly battling the bottom of the totem pole is getting to be a bit boring. I mean, I face men who are on losing streaks, yet somehow deserve to get title shots. I just don't understand the logic in that.
..::PHILIP CLAXTON::..
Then keep winning. Keep taking those shots from them and keep putting them in their place. You are proving week in and week out that you are one of the top superstars this company has to offer. Sooner or later they are bound to notice the hard work you are putting in.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
Agreed. I am sure Spike Kane has certainly noticed.
..::PHILIP CLAXTON::..
As well he should! You have beaten him twice in your time in NCW. It was just killing him that you beat him the first time. I can't imagine how bad it is eating at him now.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
I certainly think he is much more focused to worry about a loss to me. He has Alex Jones in a grudge match this week and both men will pour everything they have into beating one another. If he is thinking about another loss to me, then he has already lost this week.
..::PHILIP CLAXTON::..
That makes perfect sense.....for once.
..::SETTING::..
Both men laugh at Claxton's attempt at humor. Finally funny for once. The waitress comes to the table and takes their orders. Claxton orders a steak with all the trimmings while Potter has the grilled chicken and steamed vegetables. She brings over a bottle of wine and pours them each a glass and then disappears to the back to place their order with the chefs. After a few sips of wine, and a bit of quiet, the conversation continues.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
That was some meal you just ordered, Claxton. Good thing you aren't the one in the ring this week.
..::PHILIP CLAXTON::..
Oh, the luxuries of being an assistant.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
How about you assist and pour me more wine!
..::PHILIP CLAXTON::..
Do you think you need more wine? I mean after all, you do have a title defense this weekend. That Ander Carvetti chap seems threatening enough.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
Bloody hell, the match is in four days! I think a bit of wine will be out of my system. And as far as Carvetti goes, I don't care how threatening he appears. He has no chance to win this match and we both know it. Even he knows it.
..::PHILIP CLAXTON::..
That would certainly explain his silence thus far this week.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
So it would appear.
..::PHILIP CLAXTON::..
Well, do not under estimate him, Jonas. Just go out there, take care of business the way you always do and come out of that match still the Honor Champion! You are only a few weeks from your goal of being the longest reigning Honor Champion in the history of the title. Just keep winning these matches, and you will reach your goal. Of that, I have little doubt.
..::DOCTOR JONAS POTTER::..
I appreciate your confidence in me, old boy. And this week, I am treating like every other week. A way to show everyone else in this company just who I am and how well I match up to anyone and everyone this company has to offer. I have beaten a Hall of Famer...TWICE! I have beaten their golden boy Alex Jones! I have beaten Bates, not once, but TWICE! This isn't by sheer happenstance. This is because I work as hard as anyone in the company! And I will prove my worth once again this weekend, Claxton. You can wager on that!
..::SETTING::..
A look of determination and frustration comes over the face of Potter as he finishes his rant. He sits there a moment and Claxton smiles, knowing that the fire deep down inside of Potter is burning as hot as it ever has to succeed in professional wrestling. The scene fades as they continue to chat.
..::EPILOGUE::..
Ander Carvetti. How you "earned" this shot is beyond me, but hey, when the boss likes you, he tosses you a bone, right? You obviously have very little intentions of winning this match this week. If you do, I guess you are hiding it well. I mean, here we are, a few days before the show, and I look around and you are nowhere to be found? Now, I hardly doubt you are hiding....
Or are you?
Maybe that loss to Jimmy Zane last week is still stinging a little bit? I know people rag on the man, and he has a lot of history around here, so maybe losing to him kind of killed your desire to compete this week? I don't know. Whatever it is, I suggest you get ready, and get ready quick because in just a few days, like it or not, you will be in the ring with me for my NCW Honor Championship.
And you will not take it from me!
That is something you can take the bank, Carvetti. I don't care if you are ready for this match this week or not. All that I need to worry about is that I am ready. And by God.
I. AM. READY!
So do what you need to do to get yourself to the Georgia Dome on Sunday night. I will in the ring waiting for you if you decide to make a show of it. But know this, when it comes right down to it, you are not even close enough to good enough to beat me and take this title from around my waist. That's the absolute truth, Ander.
Take it...
Or Leave it...
It's up to you.
